SE's webbie says aGPS only...GSM arena says GPS (ie. Wayfinder Navigator). Which is correct?

^^ this is related to still image resolution, Full HD means a resolution of 1920x1080 and can be used to describe both still and video resolution

Posted by mediar
No... That's the picture size, not the video, can't you see. It's the resolution 1920 x 1080, instead 2mp. I think you aren't happy now.

Edit: Sorry Xajel, I didn't see your post.

my c702 has wayfinder nav and is gps. some says it's agps as well.

Posted by Xajel
the problem with wayfinder is it isn't free, you have to pay for your usage for ever, It will be much nicer if there's one time pay only and then you can purchase updated maps when you need...

Posted by hihihans
Will it be able to play flash vid's from websites?

Posted by bodeh6
Doubt it will play flash videos. It is only Flash Lite 2.0.

Posted by mediar
It's 2.1. But are there any chances the phone to use 3.0?

aGPS is better, and that's that it's got.

All SE phones that have GPS apps inside the FW have a built-in GPS receiver,C905 has a claimed AGPS only at the SE website but has in reality a builtin GPS that can work without WIFI (walking in the mountains)
You can be sure to have pure GPS in your SE if you have the option ''Assisted Start'' in the GPS settings, this option means that you can turn OFF AGPS and leave the GPS receiver do all the work without any internet(in Tracker for exemple),google maps in actual SE phones still use internet whatever you do and there are no options to use GPS instead of AGPS like in S60 versions

Posted by Xajel
This is the problem with SE GPS implemintation, you have to use the net in order to download maps, and if there's no WiFi then it will use the expensive mobile network internet which is bad !!

WayFinder is very nice option, after you buy a license you can download maps to your device and then use it without internet, but the problem is WayFinder have time limited license, 1 or 3 years then it ends and you have to buy another license ( or extend the license )... while in the license time you can download the maps for free, I would like more to have pay as you update, so you first get the maps as trial for 3 months, then if you liked the program buy it and you will have 1 year of free maps, after that the program will run but if you want to update your maps then you have to pay for the new updated maps... this is much much better option specially if you don't use GPS that much.

I mean there's peoples who use GPS every day, and theres peoples who use it once a week or a month or when they go out for a trip, why paying that much for both cases ?

I really hope SE to change this situation, a lot of peoples prefere other brands when they talk about GPS functionality... Google maps can be changed to not use internet ( downloading the maps locally by PC or download once and only need internet when you want new maps ), and Wayfinder can have other license policy

While I can see that aGPS is more efficient, it's also more expensive. And yes, yes, I know there are many about to jump in and say "Get a REAL GPS".

If one needs internet access then won't it suffice to use GoogleMaps? And in HOW many countries can we find "Street WiFi"...so needing WiFi for accessing maps is a bummer! I often travel to foreign countries and find myself in a position where a GPS would be really handy. Hence, I thought that having a WavNav in one's phone would really be convenient.

Xajel, I'm with you on the hopes that GPS functionality will change in the near future.

How to do that?

Posted by iqtidar
if u want to use aGPS u have to have GPS chip in your device. aGPS mean assisted GPS.
it uses the tower information of yout service provider as to where you are to get a lock faster.

edit: i thought s60v5 comes with flashlite 3.0 preinstalled?

aGPS simply means that you can have assisted start with internet to get faster the first fix. nothing more. and you can disable it from the gps settings without problems. afaik all SE gps enabled phones have also assisted start. however with wayfinder 8 you can preload maps and pay a minimum for the connection (ca. 40kb per hour of navigation) only for the route or traffic updates etc. there is also a small discount for SE users on the wayfinder site.

@iqtidar - this phone isn't Symbian S60. Satio is symbian.

helloo, satio, omnia hd, n97, 5800 are all running on symbian s60v5. symbian is the OS, s60v5 is the platform. it is a platform just like UIQ was a platform of symbian OS

would we be able to upgrade to wayfinder 8 when it's released?

I was commenting on how to make Google map better, AFAIK making maps offline is not possible now, and it is a very most-wanted feature to have if Google/SE wanted to update Google map

I just remembered...

The Netfront browser on the Walkman X1000 is touch enabled. if there's a chance of porting that to the Aino, I'd be very delighted!

Yes I thought about that when I was reading GSMArena preview, it will be very nice to make the browser uses the touch screen, and it will be very nice too if GPS application will use Touch too...

I wonder if enabling touch will require power as it will be nice to start some applications from standby using touch gestures ( circuling the screen will turn on the media, squaring will turn on GPS application, triangling will start the calculator which can be used with touch too ! ) this will be nice to not to force to open the device in order to unlock it or to go to specific application...

i was correcting you because the statement u said is incorrect.

Well, Aino - the phone we're discussing in this Aino thread - sure is NOT Symbian.

Posted by goldenface
@iqtidar

Its definitely A2 and not Symbian. A lot of news sites and blogs have reported it as being Symbian, but it most definitely isn't.

Posted by goldenface
I'm loving the UI and especially that bubbles theme. More in this cnet video here.

I thought it is A3 and not A2, or at least updated version of A250 as it has too many new features

Posted by mediar
Come on! K750 is A100. K810 is A100 too, but there are so many changes between these two phones. So Aino is using A200 updated ( maybe third generation ). As I said before some posts, the A2 platform goes in this way - W910/K850 >> W995/W760 >> Aino.

Posted by goldenface
I think how it works is far more important - I don't really care what its called. As long as it looks great and works fast then thats good enough for me.

well we were discussing about satio

Posted by xell
How about doing this in the goddamn Satio thread?

Posted by Xajel
xell, the talk now is which OSE version Aino does use, A250 or A300... it has some updates to the UI specially Flash UI updates, + the ability to use touch in some applications : Media & Camera, just to note these two applications are not a part of OSE OS, these are just applications that has been added to the phone, AFAIK the OSE version that still don't support touch screens, so any application that uses touch-features must have it's own way for handling touch input, I didn't saw any Java API ( JSR-XXX ) that refere to touch in Aino WP, and AFAIK there's no JSR for touch, so it may be not possible to develope Java applications that uses the touch unless hide something...

I was really hoping that will provide basic touch support for Java but it's not in hand as it's related to Java developers to develope such an API, the only concern I have is how they will have it, current implemtation for Java already uses the X & Y position ( for mouse and cursor ) in motion sensing, infact when you want to develope a Flash wallpaper for mobile that will interact with phone motion you will just use the normal flash mouse X & Y position !!

Why do they take so long! [groan]. They need to step up a gear, seriously.

Media player looks far away better than iPhone's!

Posted by se_love
Ha you desribed the boring part! He learned how to trick the phone into A200 with the screen down and that was crazy enough.

Posted by ros-mari
it looks great!
Now, I am not keen on the 140gr! that gsmarena says.
Now I am torn between Aino and w995....this one looks gorgeous
Pf.....

The Remote Play demo'd.

Impressed by the new media player, but dont see why you cant use it when you acess meida on main menu, whats the point in having 3 different ways of accesing media dont want to overcomplicate things even further

Posted by mariozlp
Wish i could put that screen, and using full touch on my c905. what a dream...

Posted by hihihans
I was thinking of 995 but changed to Aino, certainly after this vid. Lets see what apple offers monday? Aino has my love.

Posted by mediar
I think the UI if the new player is really nice. It's laggy, but I think this will be fixed. The old walkman player has updated UI too. The phone is really nice.

Posted by pt020
hi ... do not know what to do.... to buy the W995 or wait for the aino.
what do you think?

Posted by mediar
Wait for Aino, of course!

How is the camera of Aino - is it the same as W995?
