Clearly, the Aino is being hung out to dry by Sony Ericsson. They don't seem to know how to market it, or who to market it to. And confusion reigns because it is too much of a hybrid perhaps. Too expensive to be a simple Java phone, and not versatile enough to compete with high end phones. And it seems to be losing out to the LGs and Samsungs out there - its direct rivals. And that must hurt Sony Ericsson because the Aino measures up well to its target competition.

I think Sony Ericsson will just have to remember this as a brave move that didn't pay off.

WOW ... 50m is really alot!
all my bluetooth headsets give up after 15-20m (I was thinking it was alot cos they write in the brochures 10m)
my bluetooth watch is also good for 15m no more.

I'n new to Sony Ericsson mobiles. Can someone tell me what to do so my Mac (OSX) can 'see' it when it is connected via USB? Am I going to be unable to transfer any files to my phone at all?

Posted by hihihans
Hej, Mac and SE are not really great friends. You can use Media-sync. But it is extreme slow. Bluetooth works great. Wifi I don't know. (I'm new to wifi) what I do is use a cardreader, and just drag and drop. Good luck with your pretty pair.

Hi, there is a whole thread devoted to this.

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=52690

Hope this helps.

I have never faced any problem with Wifi connectivity, works like a charm

Posted by Caracoleo
Thanks. Looks like I'm going to have to get a bluetooth adapter for isync on my Mac? Never had this problem with Nokia!

What's weird is that my Mac doesn't even register any device when I plug my Aino into it via a USB.

I wasn't expecting full synchronisation, but to not even register!?!

From mobilearena.com review:

For a cell phone with a large screen and enjoyable multimedia capabilities, the Sony Ericsson Aino offers surprisingly good battery life. A full day of continuous audio listening and abusing both the Wi-Fi and the boxed Bluetooth hands-free constantly couldn’t use up even half the battery charge. According to the manufacturer, the handset should provide up to 4.5 hours of continuous talk or remain operational for over 300 hours over 3G networks.

I listen music max. 2 hours in a day with bluetooth headphone, 200- 300 sms, 1 hour video, 30 minutes WIFI... & it uses battery 70-80%

From review:

we need to congratulate Sony Ericsson on the quality of the snapshots taken with the Aino. Images are sharp, both colors and details are among the best we´ve seen an 8-megapixel cameraphone deliver and the handset is much better than the Sony Ericsson C905 and W995, at least when it comes to outdoor pictures. The flash performs relatively well indoors, although the increased image noise leads to worse overall quality.

Nice to know that

Had a strange issue this morning. Touch-media was gone. When I stroke the basescreen (closed) it went to desktop instead of media. Solved it with a restart.

I'm happy to say that the price of Aino started to fall down - more 30 euro for one month. The actual price is about 740 bgn, which is 380 euro.

Is everyone who own this phone truly happy about it's performance? I had the phone for 3 days now and all I see is more and more problems and performance issues. The touch UI part is very responsive and smooth but the regular non-touch based UI is acting very slow. Could the very low 55MB memory this phone has be the reason for this performance issues? W995 has around 116MB and C905 has 160MB.

You're right, it is very laggy at times, especially in the Media Menu and the Conversations view

I'm hoping future firmware upgrades will fix it (The R1DA010 should be out soon, it's been available for the Greek for a little while now)

Posted by Mano82
Agree with Platia1, Very happy with mobile, just slow some time but i hope future firmware upgrades will fix it. I check for new firmaware everyday Just can't wait now

Posted by hihihans
I did a litlle speed comparison between Aino and K850.
K850 is a tiny bit faster in the menu's.
In media it depends;
1. touch media
2. K850 media
3. Aino media in menu
But having Aino now for a month, I find the screen of K850 small.

Still a very happy white Aino owner.

Just thought I would post some initial impressions.

Overall I am happy. I knew this wasn't a smart phone and didn't expect it to behave like one.
Nevertheless, I can't help but feel SE missed a trick by not allowing access to contacts through touch screen.
No major problem though. Should also be able to access the Internet through the touch screen - damn.

It's got nice features, and the touch screen works nicely with kinetic scrolling. Great screen, great camera and video recording holds its own.

My major gripe is the lack of compatibility between the Media Go and Apple Mac. I've had to spend time finding my own free online alternatives. But I think I'm slowly getting there, with the help of this forum.

Overall the phone looks great, and does everything I want a phone to do. If I can get it to sync with the PS3, then it's happy days!

Have to admit, I've not had a single problem with lagging or speed. The menus are probably among the quickest I've had on any of my previous Sony Ericsson handsets. The only 'slightly' slower interface, in my case, is when using the camera. Everything else on mine goes fast enough thankfully.

Did you try Conversations when say you exchanged about 10+ SMS with same person? What happens on my Aino when the conversation with one person gets long is on new SMS from that person, the Events Pop-up that shows new message almost takes over 30 - 60 sec to respond when I try to open the message. Sometimes, the screen goes completely black for several seconds and suddenly pops back up. As a work around I started to delete my conversations once it reaches the size that is causing this issue. Not a great experience but in my case I don't care to keep those messages.

I've just given this a try, as I don't normally use conversations. I've got one where I have 43 texts (both sent and received involving the same contact). When I open it, it stops for about 2-3 seconds, but then it lets me scroll very fluidly through all of the messages in the conversations tab.

hey..isnt it possible to mod the firmware so that the entire phone can be used with the touchscreen not just the media menu......cuz i know java applications can make use of the touchscreen

Hi guys, according to this:
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=42247&hl=w995

and this

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=187121&start=30

Aino has a Samsung Techwin camera module... just like the C901, it seems that Samsung makes very good quality camera modules... SE should start using them in more models IMHO....

It was unexpected... never thought that Aino would be using it.... but, oh well, in the end all that matters is getting a nice picture, doesnt it?

Aino withheld from shops?

Posted by Lightspeed_x
So sad to read thad

I hope SE recovers quickly from that....

Maybe theyll start investing more in R&D from now on...

Posted by angryman
What software issues is it having exactly?
I've had the phone for 3 weeks and the touch menu screen froze once in the first few days but haven't had a single thing go wrong with it since.
On a positive at least the firmware shouldn't be not too far away, maybe next week?

This is going to kill the Aino, I fear. It's already been a bit of a marketing failure thus far.
If that wasn't enough - it turns out to be buggy.

I haven't noticed any Bluetooth or sftware problems, I just hope they are minor issues so SE can continue to give Aino its fullest support. Without that support what hope is there of a firmware update?

Can't be much longer, at this rate. Sad.

Posted by se_dude
yes, boiing, you are right.Wont be long for SE to get it all right.

if you ask me, SE is getting too much negative publicity. I dont think any one in this forum has had any problems with the Aino. Have they?

Posted by anonymuser
SE is generating too much negative publicity. The power to avoid that was always in their own hands, nobody elses.

Posted by snoFlake
Do you think just maybe there could be something behind the "negative publicity" or is it part of the world-wide anti SE conspiracy? Maybe Eldar put UK leading phone reatilers Carphone Warehouse and phones4u and industry insiders magazine "Mobile Today" up to it as part of his anti SE master plan.

What's needed clearly is more positive advertising and PR spend from SE on top of their giant budget much better spent on positive "spin" rather than developing phones and services.
