So wait let me get this straight. I am the only one who thinks it is a smart move by SE to seperate touch control to media(taking and viewing photos, watching and recording videos, games and such) and the alphanumeric pad to regular phone mode?

No, I fully agree.

Posted by mustafabay
If it were just the edges that were touch I'd be ok as it wouldn't be a touch screen. But if it is a touch screen I'd like the option to use the menu with it and a qwerty for typing. The touchscreen is supposed to give you more options. Plus the option to use it slider closed. People will do what they are most comfortable with either way. Not giving them the option is what's dissapointing. I hope they change their mind though.

Just saw in the White papers that the browser has been updated to Access Netfront 3.5 compared with 3.4 that was the standard in A2 phones.

This is going to be a great phone. SE just needs to market it correctly and it should do great as long as there is no software/hardware issues.

@Mustafabay:

I think the whole idea is that this ISN'T a touch phone. It's a phone with touchfeatures! ^^

i think it has more to do with the docking station

Most se's are solid build, and if you dont use it as a hammer it will be fine. (I think/hope)

Posted by se_love
Oh those SE guys are pushing it now.

Its an excellent phone but if you only want people to connect aino to PS3 why in the name of god put the damn game button on the phone? I mean it would have been excellent to use this as a controller but just for videos and music is a bit of a gimpy idiotic move by SE. You could have slapped on the PS3 interface for the media make a PS style interface for the phone mode and call it the PS-Phone and watch the money come in. Oh well. At least we got a pseudo psphone.

I wonder witch has the best cam, AINO or C905 in daylight??
Maybe it´s the same cam module?
Or does AINO have Sonys new Exmor CMOS 8.11 image sensor?
Notice that on C905 the cam is 8 Mp but on AINO it´s 8.1 !! does it mean it´s the new Exmor?

And by the way witch video quality has AINO? plz don´t say less than VGA ..

Somebody knows? Mizz??

Oh yes, how can I not remember Z558i. The only thing you can use the tc for is in messaging, and even then it was unreponsive and complicated. Total and utter rubbish, miles away from what Aino has to offer obviously

@mode - that's why this model wasn't popular. But the idea was good. However one thing which surprizes me was that Aino has two Media Menus.

While true and while I accept the phone as one of the phones of the year it is a bit well stupid. What would have worked better is to make media and such a full touch based experience. Then it could have been a bit better not mention a more important matter of having media through touchscreen. SE made a great desicion splitting media for touch phone for buttons but should have left them split.

Yeah we will. I think at least a lot of phones coming. Besides EU. Anyway people see this as big. Its not that big but its not small. From the pictures I can tell it looks sturdy enough.

Sure there is more to come, though se should announce them after this trio is on the market. Otherwise some people will wait for the next one and wait for the next one. And dont buy anything.

Now I am interested. If they can do this for Aino they better damn well make things right for satio. Sure I won't buy it but I just want the best interest for SE!

Guys, video from Sweden

Well, the Sony Ericsson Aino surely did surprise it. The very concept of it is so un-Sony-Ericsson-like. You've got a huge touchscreen, 8 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, plus all of the other the well-known goodies. We've gotta say that the microSD card support is more than welcome as well.

No longer do you have to choose between a Cyber-shot and a Walkman, and no longer should you go for other mobile phones when decent video recording is a must. It seems that Sony Ericsson are changing their game plan and thus they may be even changing the game itself.

As GSM arena said this is a whole different ballpark. A fresh new SE is heading our way and we should be happy.

VGA Video Recording Nice. Next year I will replace my K850i with this bad boy. It has everything. The look is very Japanese.

Ah. Too bad yari doesn't have it.

Posted by mediar
Really? Yari is an EU phone and it doesn't have even VGA recording? Desapointing...

I am starting to think that the Entertainment Unlimited is the successor of the K-series and Idou is the W960 successor.

And if someone calls you, you have to open the phone and than to press the button to answer the call?

Yeah it has qvga@30fps. Damn! Anyway...
EU is not a successor to anything. They are on their own the new face of SE and their future. Idou if anything is the successor to the C905 as it is to the K850 as that is to the K800/810.
On the calling thing I think all it is you slide open and it answers. At least if you have the options set to that.

The K-series was stopped, but in this series all phones had good camera and music player ( all in one ). Now the EU series is doing the same thing.

Does W960 have any successor - touchscreen, symbian, good camera, walkman player? It's Idou.

However for me Aino is better phone. It's sweeter and there isn't any symbian rubbish.

I think that might have made it too thick - like 16 - 18mm. Small price to play considering what else thats on offer.

Just watching the press release videos and I am wondering about the WiFi. In the presentation, it mentions that you can sync your media over WiFi by putting the phone in the dock.

Now, if the phone itself has WiFi, why would you need a dock, except for convenience? It makes me think that perhaps the phone itself does not have WiFi but rather the dock does. So by using the dock, you can sync with WiFi as that is how the dock connects to the PC (rather than say USB for example).

I recall discussions a while back about a possible WiFi adaptor for phones, but don't recall one coming out, perhaps this is that product or where the research went into.

I wonder if thd dock would be sold separately or something similar.

EDIT. Hmm, ok, maybe the phone does have WiFi afterall as they mention streaming the Playstation stuff. Bit confused with the dock I guess.

Cheers,

Thought so. I like how that the EU phones now have stands and bulky things fro chargers instead of a stupid plug. You treat them less like garbage and they are fancy stuff. Overall SE is keeping them for a reasonable price with a little bonus as the charger.

VGA 30fps is so 3 years ago. That's about the equivalent of 15 IT years ago. I expected Satio to be a leader, not follower. I knew it wouldn't live up to its hype, that's why the Idou thread seems pretty much dead, no fan dares to hope anymore

I hate to be so negative (no I really do!) but I'm just incredibly dissapointed. I was hoping Sony Ericsson would give us the Western version of KDDI AU S001 with the 3'3" inch AMOLED screen and brilliant design (a classic and cool beauty compared to the Aino), instead we get this confused halfbreed. Not quite a touchscreen phone, not quite a classic slider. Im not sure what it would feel like typing an SMS on the Aino, but it looks like it would be a bit top-heavy.
Not my cup of tea, design wise or feature wise. And I really wanted to get an SE this year, I'll continue to wait for my S001 though. (delusional as I am, haha)
