A few pictures of the un-boxing

The only thing (apart from the price lol) that bothers me is that case, I know Motorola expect that screen to be pretty much bullet proof, but it's not really a good idea leaving it THAT exposed while it's in it's pouch :/

Regardless.

Wasn't this the remake of the old advertised "gay" motorola phone?? No I'm not being pretentious or picking an orientation fight here - Motorola DID advertise this phones predecessor towards the "gay" crowd. Damned after 4yrs I can find the correct ad ... but the T70 or T50 or something similar in EXACT swivel design.

one was an 80 model the other was a 70/73 I think.

Aha ....

Companies that market to gays online, or devote parts of their corporate Web sites to gays and lesbians, may also reap more subtle benefits, said Robert Williams, general manager for retail in Motorola's personal communications sector -- primarily, its cellphone business. Mr. Williams, who is also co-leader of Motorola's Gay and Lesbian Business Council, said that Motorola's open marketing to gays and lesbians gave it an edge in attracting employees from that group.

The most recent example of Motorola's efforts on this front is its Motopride campaign, a summer-long program that will wind down this week. The marketing campaign focused on gays and lesbians in New York and California, and included promotions at gay pride festivals, as well as on a section of the Motorola Web site.

The Motopride microsite included a sweepstakes featuring a Motorola V70 phone, which Mr. Williams referred to as ''a fashion statement the gay and lesbian market would embrace.''

The site has had more than 7,000 visitors and nearly 1,700 sweepstakes registrants this summer, Mr. Williams said. And though he said it was hard to gauge the campaign's effect on sales, because most sales of cellphones are completed offline, ''we've gotten incredible feedback on it from the community.''

Glade somebody likes the Aura ... me I'll take the X1 over that ANY DAY

Without wanting to offend, what the F*** has that got to do with anything??? I'm not sure about the majority, but I couldn't give a flying f**k what an advertising campaign orients an item towards, whether it's sexuality, gender, or colour.

I own a lot of phones from crap to rare, and i don't give a hoot what 'message' any particular one gives out.

Jeez

Posted by RyaN
Well, i like it too! As i'm sure do many peeps

It's rare, has a wow factor...and is certainly different. Plus i'm sure the build quality and feel of it in your hand is 2nd to none... well probably apart from a Vertu lol

Congrats on your puurchase. Enjoy it!

Posted by Aware
Ah...awesome, David!

Sexual gender notwithstanding, if you can't appreciate a piece of engineering of this quality, then the point is being sorely missed......

Having seen Moto's one in pieces on a plinth, even Vertu don't go to these lengths(1st rate materials, yes, but they only ever build bar phones)! This is one swivel I'd love to add to my collection......

Thanks, that rant was not aimed at anyone other than the author of the post, it grinds my gears when people get into that, and it wasn't as if it was a passing remark, more a mini thesis.

....anyhooo, it's beautifully made, and whilst it ain't no smartphone, its does what it says on the tin in terms of function.

The other phones I have that give me the same feeling are the Bang & Oulfsen Serene (the original design), and the Vertu Ascent, and even the Nokia Arte Saphire.

There's nothing quite like the cold and heavy feel of steel in the hand. I love my iPhone (and use it 24/7) but it's not quite the same, kind of like having a Omega watch (or similar, other brands are available!) for occasional wear, and using a Casio everyday.

David Beckham advertises the phone. He has Victoria Beckham. Enough said.
Anyway I had the old V80 and its a shame they made such a pricy model like this. A realy shame. But man its lovely.

Posted by Bonovox
Motorola still keep coming up with the odd innovation

Posted by Miss UK
What features does this have?
it's a first ive seen of it and it does look alot like the other design they did back a while ago

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Change the topic name! Why? Because that my friend is not a toy,its a fine piece of engineering and style all in one. couldnt careless at who its aimed at, id love to have one, congrats!

Posted by Bonovox
Personally its not to my taste and i would want more features over style. Though would love to see that screen but i fail to see anything gay about the phone. I would understand if it was pink or purple but nothing gay about it. Strange.

Posted by gola
Yeah, true beaut !!! I gotta admit, I had my doubts at first, I take them all back...

Posted by Residentevil
Looks familiar. Have seen it a few years back. Didn't do well.

You possibly mean that you have seen the format a few years ago, which indeed is true, but not this handset.

Thats a lovely piece of kit mate, enjoy it.

Oh another thing, I for some strange reason think i might know who you are. You don't happen to know a guy called Stephen Thompson?

That is something that Motorola has done in the US to try and stop ebay resellers and fakes.

But it's not legal to do that in the European Union, as it contravenes the free trade laws, so in other words in the EU you can do as you please.
