Samsung Acme i8910 touchscreen
curious model, some preliminary details are
It is rumoured that it will include a 8 megapixel touchscreen cameraphone, which is no surprise for Samsung’s standards. As well as attracting the click happy bunch, it also includes GPS, HDMI, WiFi, 3.5mm socket, is DNLA and DivX compatible and offers HD recording. It will come in 8GB and 16GB versions and is expected to be a bit on the pricey side

Yep, 1024x768@30fps.
I wonder when we will see mobile phone with Full HD video recording?
Posted by QVGA
HD is 1280x720
of course i dont expect even the quarter of the actual HD quality from this phone. HD logo there is just for show off
Posted by Radu_91
will it have xenon flash or a LED flash ?

Santa
Indeed, could you clarify? 1024x768 is XGA not HD. HD is 1280x720 at the minimum. Which shall the i8910 have?
Also, does S60 have support for WVGA?

1024x768 is actually HD since it displays more than 720 vertical lines.
Ther are three main resolutions for displaying HD-content in 720p, which are XGA (used in many HD-ready Plasma TVs),WXGA and HD 720p.
Anyway this phone looks quite interesting.

Hehe. Now I am also confused about the resolution. It is HD with 30fps but not sure about the precise resolution.
S60 5th edition should support WVGA.

Wow, I must say I didn't know that specifically. Interesting.
Santa
Thanks! Though now it seems the resolution may be a toss up. Either way, it won't disappoint.

1024x768 is not HD because its not wide screen

We even don't know the OS of this device. Protos are tested over different platforms and OSs

You're wrong, HD video can also be in standard aspect ratio (4:3) like XGA (1024x768) Yakkaimono is right, it's the number of vertical lines (either 4:3 or 16:9) that define HD video, that's why we have the so called 720p or 1080p
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/[....]nition_video#Technical_details
The CPU used in this model might be extremely powerful, even the very fast OMAP 3430 can maxes out in D1 (720x480) res for video recording. I don't think samsung has used QC Snapdragon here (it's not compatible with symbian anyway) I wonder if Samsung developed their own CPU just for this model

My choice is between this phone and the LG KM900 Arena.
Funny how someone mentioned that Samsung and LG copy each other, that is exactly why I cant decide which one to buy.
My upgrade is at the perfect time this ear, all these new handsets should be out by the end of March
About the HD video recording, the reolution is still in rumor stage, but a few places are saying that it will be 720p and 1280 x 720, but we will have to wait untill the phone specs are officially released by Samsung to confirm this for definate.

If that other phone is the Blackberry Storm, the Acme would be around 130x60 mm in size!?

Does it absolutely have to have all those logos on the back? Kinda ruins it.

It's inevitable...anyways both are korean companies. perhaps they have this thinking...why compete with each other if we could just help each other. and nowadays LG and Samsung is really on the roll. I'd say good for them

If i make a phone that has HD recording, HDMI output, DIVX, i'd plaster them all over too. Those are not the features to hide
Posted by Radu_91
what is the screen resolution ?
Posted by vegetaleb
I hope it will not be as expensive as the innov8 when firs launched!
It costed 1000$ here
Also I hope they will use a better screen for direct sunlight because the 5800 is not the best
Posted by Radu_91
i think it will be more expensive than the innov8 and i hope that the camera is better than the innov8 too
Posted by bavlondon2
I hope the OS is nice then I may be interested in this.

This is my next phone, it has everything that i need! Wow great job SAMSUNG!

It's a nice looking phone but ill reserve my thoughts for when we see some videos of it in action.
Posted by laurenke01
This shall be my next device.
According to the page with the HQ pics...it has a capacitive AMOLED screen in addition to all the other stuff.
Posted by bavlondon2
Hopefully the UI is improved to go with that. I am in a bit of a tight spot now. I am really interested in this but I have invested a lot in my iphone with apps ect so would have to start all over again.
Posted by laurenke01
Er, yeah, that would kind of suck. And with Samsung introducing their own App Store soon....
Posted by vegetaleb
App store that should give S60v5 apps you mean!
Nokia should deal with them then...iphone will be busted

Not really. Apple have the position of power from a music perspective with itunes anyway so their app store would naturally benefit from more exposure.
Although generally an 'appstore' for S60 apps is long overdue.
When can we expect to see this phone announced officially?

Probably at MWC

Definitely by MWC, I'd say.
Though there are rumblings of Samsung announcing their "most important device of the year" on the 9th. Dunno if it's true, and if it is, if they consider the i8910 the "most important," but we shall see. If not Monday, on the 16th probably.
