I recently bought a C905 with R1DA032 090204 firmware - EU retail version.

Is the Dark Magician driver an improvement on this or ONLY on the older versions?

My eyes are good and so are my photos and I just want to check if it is worth uploading a Custom Camera Driver?

All due respect to you DarkMagician but what have you achieved that the Cybershot technicians haven't? Is this a case of the Emperor's New Clothes?

Can anyone do some side by side comparisons with the latest Sony driver and the modded versions floating around?

Many thanks,
Toby

Hi this driver is great but i found out some issues like sharpness is too much for me, and the flash get less brighter maybe darkmagician reduce the FPS or expusure i dopnt know but the most important change i have noticed are COLOURS they are simple REAL and VIVID darkmagician you are a master, but could someone tell me the part of the camdriver to modd that part (i mean the colurs) i just want to change it into the original one since and make some other changes, and then share with you

please someone give me a hand

Posted by DarKMaGiCiaN
hi all I see lots of great shots ^_^ woooOOW

@toby23
from my point of view
c905 was weak in sharpness
and it can be better in color
so I tried to improve this two issues
because of that you see these versions of DarkMaGiCiaN camdrivers

you said
"Is this a case of the Emperor's New Clothes"

mmmm if so then why lots of c905 users are using darkmagician 1.61
isnt that approve how good is the driver !!
^_^

@eltoffer
you have to add this
#COM_EVENT(58,0x)
where x from 1 to 8 (which is the maximum vivid Color )

@all people who is having a problem with the night shot ( Dark !!)
you can test this driver ( darkmagician 1.57 )

note:
DarKMaGiCiaN 1.57 is a version between 1.5 and 1.61

it is DarkMaGiCiaN 1.5 + the sharpness ,color and focus from 1.6

i havnt had a problem with 1.6.1 with night shots.
plus i think 1.6.1 is slightly better than 1.6

Posted by gtr83
I would like the xenon to not light up too much, actually. Makes better macro shots that way (not overexposured)

yeah but if u do that so u cant take Pic of face's wihflash..

Posted by zootzoot
i zoomed in on auto settings, but the picture came out like this.
not very nice, i wonder if its the darkmagican 1.6.1 driver or the phone.

Posted by vrwarp
@zootzoot

It is almost pointless that they added in a digital zoom because digital zooming is just blowing up the photo without actually using lenses of any sort. I suppose you can argue that digital zooming makes a difference because it reduces the amount of noise coming from the compression stage, but if you're saving it as high quality, I don't think the noise (from the compression) is a very big deal....

However, I do agree that the swan (?) is a bit washed out.

Thanks pal im comparing your with the original one, in:

seq_set_prop_10_0 = // Normal (Auto)
$sa 09
#TO_DRAFT
#SET_REG(64,1D) // SCENE_SLOW_SHUTTER = 29, 1/8
#SET_REG(22,14) // DRAFT_MIN_FRMRATE 10 fps
#COM_EVENT(51,00) // Auto scene
#UPDATE_WB
#UPDATE_PHOTO // Check AE mode spot/normal
#NOT_DOC_MODE // Must be called before UPDATE_ISO
#CHANGE_MODE(34,00)
#COM_EVENT(5A,01) // FLASH_INFO = 1
$cf.00 1 // If imst mode
#CHANGE_MODE(35,00) // IS_DRAFT mode
$cl // Not in IS
$cx
;

Why you put:

#NOT_DOC_MODE // Must be called before UPDATE_ISO

after:

#TO_DRAFT

is there any reason to do that or not?

@eltoffer
#TO_DRAFT all ways come before #NOT_DOC_MODE .it just the way original camdrive written and the same rule apply in K850i C902 W902 C702 and C905 as well

but if you want you can just delete #TO_DRAFT from your camdrive

DarKMaGiCiaN,

I have just read through this post from the beginning and I can see that photos taken with your driver are sharper than with the stock driver, good work.

I am using the stock driver and I am happy with everything apart from the sharpness in my photos. What part of the driver file do i have to edit to increase sharpness only?

Many thanks,
Toby

@toby23
#COM_EVENT(56,XX) // Reset sharpness

but from my experience in C905 mod this part is not the only part that control the sharpness

Thanks DarKMaGiCiaN,

So if I wanted the best sharpness and compression setting without changing colours, saturation etc what should i change?

Many thanks for your help,

Toby

Hmmm....
After You took first picture, how much time did past until You took second picture. I can see that shadows mooved. (that affect our judgement)
If You want to take picture of sunrise, it is matter of minutes and whole mood in the picture changes, sun is brighter, colors are different.

What I want to say is that first picture looks better in colors but if you take first picture with darkmagician driver(or other driver), maybe, just maybe, the result will be similar.

One more thing, even if colors looks better in first picture, how are they (colors) compared to reality. I do not want that camdriver boost colors more that they are in real life. (yea I know, real life colors looks washed out some times, but I prefer that picture is same as real thing, I can boost colors in Photoshop if I want to)

Thanks to listening and great work, both darkmagician and eltoffer and You zootzoot for doing some test.

BTW is there any difference in portrait indoors with flash taken with eltoffer and original camdriver 2.7
I mean is there still some yellow spots in dark areas?

Posted by zootzoot
the second picture was taken about a week ago using darkmagician driver,
and the first picture (eltoffer) was taken today.

i think darkmagician driver is more to the true colours, while eltoffer is a little bit to colourful.

taken with eltoffer portrait settings

cheers

Darkmagician, your 1.6.1 driver is very good.
The pictures are sharper and have more contrast.

In the original driver, there is an ISO400 setting that is not in yours?
Do you plan to include this in your next update?

Here are some comparison shots taken over two days in different weather...
I know the light and weather conditions are different, you'll have to use your judgement on this one. I have taken hundreds of shots over the last few days for my own comparison and personally, I prefer the results I am getting from the DarkMagician driver.

The difference between the DarkMagician driver and the stock driver are very small but the photos are sharper and have more contrast. I know I could do this in photoshop too but it's nice when the pictures don't need any editing.

At the end of the day, this is a phone and not a camera, which is why I need a real camera to make shots like this - http://www.pbase.com/toby23/switzerland

The photos have been resized and rotated where necessary but that's all.
