U5 should be Kurara, and while it previously was J105, SE is by now calling the Naite J10 on their website.

U5 is Kurara, J10 is Susan and J20 is Sunny.

You know, I dont like the fact that SE are concentrating on Andriod over A300 that much, but I feel thats its pretty necessary. Look at moto, which did its own thing for a long time, and failed. But after two new phones, The Dext and Milestone, both featuring andriod, Motorola seems to be back on the map. It seems like the majority wants fancy touch screen phones that have fun little animations and transitions. Everyone is watching the X10 very carefully, wary of SE's past. But if they continue to pump out quality andriod phones, I think people might remember who the heck SE is.
Meanwhile, im still waiting on my true k850 successor, still using my k800i. I guess im oldschool, but id take a candybar with a great camera and simple features over any of these superphones which have been all the rage recently.

Surely it wouldn't take much money in order to carry on developing OSE / A2. It's already one of the best out there. This means they're be supporting 3 smartphone OS and no non-smart. Doesn't really make sense.

You want the quality of something proven in the trenches over long term; nothing wrong with that!

SE already supports 3 smartphone OS: Symbian, WindowsMobile, and Android. I'd like to see the UI of OSE/A2 ported over to Symbian or Android; I thought that was the reason for waiting until Android 2.0 that SE originally publicly announced some 4-6mths back.
Porting OSE to Android would bring Flash+Java integration - two HUGE holes in Android and really make it a market leader.

Yeah, saw this re-reported on Engadget.com last night.
Cortex A8 with 256MB RAM and PowerVR - about the same hardware as the Samsung i8910 HD; except that is using Samsungs' own Cortex A8 cpu and running at 800mhz (peak; 600Mhz avg I think).
It's no surprise then that the HD label we saw earlier has been corroborated by 720p video recording and playback capabilities, and the Symbian S60 interface is said to "fly."
This is nice. I still not sold on the physical design, but I like how
is picking up their game ... they ARE able to do what even Nokia cannot do. Produce 2 high-end Symbian devices in less than 1yr apart from one another; delivery/shipping a lil longer but Nokia is STILL longer than 3yrs till the next Cortex A8 based cpu; N95 doesn't use A8.

The A300 would have been a platform with limited but well-designed features, developed in less than a year. Even more simple and clean compared to A200. The whole UI was re-designed and not based on A200. Sadly this platform was destined to become an entry platform since the features were limited and since it would not support touch - at least not the first edition.

So finally, is A300 gonna see the light of day, or is SE having second thoughts?

So looks like sonyericsson is doing good things with s60v5. But is it a gud idea to put resources into the o.s? I mean how's the the support for s60v5? Is Opera Mobile 10 a sign of gud things 2 come(maybe core or divx divx player will be next?)?

I'm currently using my K800 that's been working for the past 2-3 years now and i'm on my 3rd contract with this phone (sold the other phones off and kept this one as its been the best camera). I'm really interrested in the Samsung i8910 with it's awesome AMOLED screen and ability to play back divX and Xvid without re-encoding them... just disappointed about the camera and lack of DECENT flash. 720p recording is a gimmick and is only at 24fps... when's some Tegra mobile devices going to be coming out... Imagine a Tegra powered SE, 3.7" - 4.0" AMOLED capacitive Touch with Xenon flash and a DECENT 5-8MP camera supporting Xvid and DivX playback and a browser thats as usable as Safari on the iPhone but with flash and download support... This really to much to ask going into 2010... that would ROCK!!!

A: That's not that great.
B: Please keep this thread to Sony Ericsson rumours.
I'd like to announce that se_love will be taking over portfolio duties for the next year, and he expects to have the 2010 thread open very soon. I'd like to thank se_love for volunteering and for his efforts, and I'd like to thank the rest of you for keeping the thread going this year. It was a quieter year than last, but we finally saw a new direction for SE which was great.
We have a lot more to look forward to next year with SE's Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile plans, as well as the ever-evolving feature phone platform. Please stick around and support se_love in his new thread! I will be.
Cheers guys.

Now that you've pointed it out, it does look like SE's been playing around with the UI too. I hope they atleast learn from their mistakes on the satio and optimize the UI. For eg...they could start with adding kinetic scrolling to the contacts app.

Guys, help out SE-Love please? SE-Love, Oli had a few banner issues in the beginning if I recall - but people offered suggestions and the front page came out incredibly. I'm sure you'll do just as well. But its about the content before the glam right? Fit & Finish is what we're after but the Fit is important.
Oli, great job on this thread! We still have 1 more month so you're not off the hook yet.

Again, like many others before you, spitting out specs.
Xvid & Divx is a codec; we don't NEED Tegra to enjoy it, nor do we need Omap3430 just video acceleration (hardware in current mobile handset technologies; software will be the future with specific API's) to enjoy it.
Suffice to say an Cortex A8 cpu with PowerVR will perform VERY nicely with current Symbian OS stack and software to take advantage of it for real world use. Tegra is still an ARM11 based chipset is it not? Is it more efficient than Cortex A8 chipset, hard to judge with just one device using small screen and internal battery: ZuneHD. I wouldn't call the Tegra proven yet in the smartphone space ... needs more testing and implementation; if Microsoft is taking their sweet time to release an App store to invite 3rd party devs that should tell you something.

That quality seems a lot worse then Nokia's VGA 30FPS on the likes of N86 and N97.

That video might be Kurara's, but I don't worry about the quality. This phone isn't even announced, so it's in alpha stage. The quality will be improved, there is no other way.

Sorry to say this, but I agree with Eldar.
However, he is being kind of an arse by reviewing a yet unnanounced phone (and revealing other tidbits), thus ensuring that SE's competitors know more about their strategy than they should.
Posted by badassmam
I agree with Eldar in that Kurara has to be at a good price to guarantee success. Toe to toe with the Nokia XM phones, it should win because the interface is better. If they get the marketing right, this will be massive regardless of its shortcomings. I suspect that it will be priced a bit higher because of the 'HD recording' but it would be wise to keep it as low as possible.
2 new Androids (one qwerty), 1 new Symbian qwerty. More Xperias, hopefully at the February announcement.

Not I want to criticize Eldar review but I wonder he factor in stuff like
drop on DRAM price/ ARM processor Price. etc.
also the price on LCD/ camera module.
those stuff by the time Kurara out will not be same as what Samsung offering.
I will rather wait and see whether SE is really commited to a change which include affordability with good quality
