The price of Motorola Droid and the early release date are the advantages it has over Sony Ericsson Rachel. Rachel may impress us with its superb sprecification but Droid will be sold cheaper and earlier. Unless SE plans to sell Rachel immediately after the formal announcement, Droid still has the upperhand.

But from the engadget preview,
Droid fails misarably in keyboard and camera depertment.

True. I reckon the Droid would be better off without that horrible keyboard.

Never been the fan of BB and E71 form factors... But with my last three phones (TD2, 5800XM, Satio) being fulltouch, I'm not so soon going back to other form factors again.

^Will SE ever release an adequately-sized device with combined features of X2, X10 and Satio? That is what I want actually.
Ragarding the Satio2, do you have any idea about its thickness and video recording capability?

Imagine making a phone with the power of CMOS chip from the Satio, while giving it Optical zoom (say 3x/5x/10x) WITHOUT giving it a huge hump or battery draining mechanical assembly (that also adds considerable weight) all the while in a device as slim as the C510.
Liquid Optical lens is VERY close to how the human eye works ... when no power its flat! When a specific voltage or whatever - power - is applied (and regulated) the liquid becomes semi pneumonia and curves/domes to form the zoom - like our eyes are domed. This doesn't mean that the liquid will be exposed to dirt ... it will be under either glass or high quality plastic for protection and dirt deterent. AND this uses LESS power than existing cellphone camera setups!!

I'm half sold after watching the new UI video. My other half is of course it's browser capability.
But of course this doesn't matter unless it gets release sometime mid November because I'm in a dire need for a new phone because I need something that can replace my soon to be taken ipod(by my mother, lol).
Currently I'm opting for the N900, if it isn't for this situation, I would actually hold out to see if the racheal is any good.

That's good to hear. I was not too keen about the optical zoom in a phone because of thickness. Knowng SE, we might not see a device sporting this technology anytime soon. But I keep my fingers crossed. Like the their new slogans says: Make believe.

I want to see SE going back to the old days (and those of Ericsson) where they pioneered many new things. Actually, so did Motorola back in the 1990s. How things change.
I see how ahead of the game both the T68 and P800 were and always figured SE would be the first to do everything. They have, to a point, but have lacked the innovation in recent years. And the 'Entertainment unlimited' seems to have been an idea thought up AFTER the phones that have been released (U1 and U10) were already in the final stages - hence a number of issues that hardly take either beyond Cyber-shot or Walkman, and other things like no 3.5mm headphone jack (or microUSB) etc.
Next year will hopefully see devices where the new concept is fully put into practice - and then maybe we'll see real innovation.
Posted by Hardened
Yeah their new slogan is not the smartest if read without the period between the two words. I want reality not something dreamt up but I get where their coming from making fantasy products into reality.
This technology has been trualed and tested already for the past 2yrs and exists in a desktop USB Internet cam. RIM has been heavily rumored to be looking into this for a product to be released by end of 2010; I've made serious posts over at BBForums hoping for this in the past.
could have a much better solution we're unaware of but it would seem that they're direction Now is sound unlike that of Nokia currently. I prefer Symbian because of the power and proven ability in mobile but the UI has got to change!
Entertainment Unlimited needs to be just that, evolve and offer entertainment anywhere and not just on the device. SE has great design and success with accessories and I'd love to see it create car stereo connectors, home stereo connectors and revise the BT watch again making it thinner, more functional, and multiple-Colored as well. RIM is making such a watch and SE should give them a kick in the nada if they have a patent on it which I think they do.
X2 is targeted at a certain market that puts me square in the cross hairs but I also wan what I'm loving on my 3GS already which Rachel potentially offers. I'll wait and see for the next few months.

Hmm... if this new rumour of a 3" QWERTY keypad Android phone coming out during MWC next year is true then I am dumping Rachael.
I have been pleading for such a phone as I am more than happy with my P1. I just hope it is not as wide as Blackberries, P1's size is just PERFECT!

Miz asked about that phone on Twitter, I'm not sure if it was already named here:
B10. http://www.jbenchmark.com/res[....]it=OK&benchmark=pro&subtest=-2
What I can say about it: It's definitely a Windows Mobile phone and it definitely has a WVGA screen.
May it be the early X2? Or is it the rumoured third WM phone that may have been cancelled?

does anyone know if they will launch some high-end walkman phones soon ?
Posted by NightBlade
I don't think future high-end walkmans will see the light of day. It's all Entertainment Unlimited now. Well, that OR Xperia.
Posted by jmcomms
I am glad SE decided to combine the best of Walkman with Cyber-shot, except they haven't - strictly speaking - done that. They've crippled the camera interface and the Walkman player, and removed the strong brand names. Don't get me wrong - they're still decent, but a compromise that goes against the concept.
I am very surprised that they didn't at least have the camera start up and show the 'Cyber-shot' brand - and use a similar UI. I am equally surprised they didn't call the music player Walkman, and help keep the Walkman name alive (this did, no doubt, make Walkman cool again for Sony after they nearly lost it completely to the iPod).
It's somewhat harder to imagine calling the games section PlayStation/PSP - simply because in this part, you'd need some degree of compatibility or people will expect PSP games to run and so on.. but you could give it a new name like PS Mobile or whatever - and then incorporate support.
If SE wants to really have Entertainment Unlimited as the new must-have brand, they need to fix these things. At the moment, I am sure Joe Public will see the Satio or Aino has being inferior to any future Walkman or Cyber-shot model.

Well put, jmcomms! If there was ever a way of using those brand names that is how they were supposed to be used. Like you wrote, ordinary customers will feel somewhat indifferent to a 'plain' Satio as opposed to one that shows 'Walkman' when the music player is fired up or 'Cybershot' on camera activation. Most times SE fails to grasp the power of using the brands purposefully.
Makes you wonder how exactly they plan on keeping them alive.
Posted by Legen
A full touch walkman is long overdue. Entertainment limited is gud, but it jus 'a bit' of both cyber-shot en walkman. Imagine a Satio with amazing sound quality(plus 3.5mm jack) and 8mp camera(hopefully meanin no bulge)
Posted by badassmam
@ Legen
I think your wishes will be answered but perhaps without 3.5mm jack if you don't mind. It doesn't mean that the quality will be bad but good headphones always enhance the experience.

I'm interested in the Blackberry-esque Sony Ericsson phone you mentioned a few posts back.
Can you please shed some light as to how wide the phone is? How is the design like, is it a Sony Ericsson design- meaning is it as good looking as a Sony Ericsson?
The thing is I've been hoping for this that is why I have held off on getting another phone because the P1's size is perfect and I was hoping for a slimmer P1 sized phone.
Thanks!

Rachael = X10, it says so in settings
I played with one Rachael and it got Android 1.6 installed now. I was told that Android 2.0 will be on it when launched.
The screen is huge! Couldnt find out any info on the CPU. I am sure Hero has info on this or am I wrong?

I'm wondering if Rachael has wireless charging? The micro USB cover isn't a great idea if you've got to keep removing it just to charge. I'm guessing this device is power hungry.

I never had trouble with my K700i's flap. It kept the phones underside from looking ugly, and it probably helped keep a lot of dust out of there.
