Thanks buddy.

While yes battery consumption is being lessened they are trying to improve the batteries and improve the screen towards such battery life as an oled screen would give.

video walkthrough of IDOU
http://www.engadget.com/2009/[....]d-video-walkthrough/#continued
The guy in the video confirms entertainment unlimited is a fusion of walkman and cybershot brands.. also, that the OS is S60 and the UI is just SE's shell on top of S60.

Idou is a killer at least for the competition.....REALLY GOOD work SE

So then those who say idou will be 100% cybershot you are wrong. It clearly states its an entertainment unlimited phone meaning it doesnt belong to the cybershot nor the walkman family. Seeing this means that this year both the c series and the w series will slowly die. Unless of course they still continue both series and have entertainment unlimited phones as their high end super models which i must say sounds a bit gay and stupid. Also the guy said were going to bring more later on so keep waiting. Good that means SE might bring something else or held back a bit or Cebit will have the goods.

It looks pretty responsive even though it's in an early development stage.
This phone and its UI look really impresive. The only thing they have to do now is to get it out in a reasonable time frame.
Posted by se_love
They say 6 months but it should be out in october november. Same case as xperia. Unless of course magic happens and we get it that early.
Posted by Luci'sPower
well they said Second Quarter.....imagine having this phone in june

you may call it gay and stupid, but this is the mobile phone buisness.
you have to offer variety, a company also needs phones for the mass market.

Idou seems amazing (apart from the lack of 3.5mm which is simply stupid on a entertainment/media phone). However, if it costs the same as X1 I wonīt even bother.
Posted by Tigershark42
The phones are good, but price and timing are the factors that SE get wrong time and time again. I don't want it to be late and too expensive for what it is (when you look at some models from other brands which are cheaper and out sooner, in some cases better too). So if Idou is a rip off, then it won't work well at all.
(OT) BTW, why is everyone saying that that N*kia phone is ugly? IMO its not the best looking ever, but I still like it. Looks miles better than anything even rumoured to run android. Looks better than that silly portrait swivel crap SE wants to waste resources on, looks better than the N95, looks better than the iphone (a look which I never appreciated, looks like a sliver of plastic and a metal rim joined together to me, not a well designed product) which many people like, so, I see nothing to complain about >D

did I miss something??
According to some people here, there should be ~7 (seven) phones announced ... where are they then? Just asking...
Posted by SloopJohnB
I also didnīt like nokiaīs design. Itīs kinda chubby and the keypad is ugly. Idou however looks super sleek and polished, even better then N97. Well done
.

i know it has not been officially announced properly. but may i suggest creating a seperate thread in the symbian section for Idou??
That way the rumours thread doesnt get full of discussions regarding the phone. At least all of the info will be in one dedicated thread.
edit: and here it is
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=182035
please discuss Idou there

That ~7 phones includes what was announced the other day too... The W395, C901 and C903. SE split their announcement up like many other manufacturers have done this year. So we did see 5 new phones which is at least closer to 7 than 2. No word yet on where the others are.

Er, that's all from SE, folks.
Posted by razec
So SE stole the spotlight again in MWC. nokia has shown its fans nothing special this time. samsung and LG are innovative. although i can hardly differentiate their models from each anymore lookwise
Posted by Santa_Claus
Some other phones from SE are pretty much ready for the market. Will be some announcement soon, IMO.
Posted by razec
But why didn't they announce it on MWC? are they going to steal the spotlight from idou if they do so?

So true. I'm so confused with all their different, yet identical looking models.
And to be honest I expected a lot more from MWC. Not so much from SE, but from everyone else, but nobody really came to the party in my opinion. Idou seems to be the star of the show.
Posted by c96sthl
Idou was claimed to be Entertainment Unlimited product....hope they have a competition open for all the suggest a catchy name like Xperia/ Cybershot/ Walkman
maybe that is what Xperia meant for? sorry I am ignorant
Posted by se_dude
Its just a guess. But I think SE did not want their XPERIA to be overshadowed by the hype on the IDOU. So they decided to keep it for later. Or thats what i think.

Question:
How is
going to release a phone based on Symbian Foundation OS on the second half of 2009 if the OS will only be done on the beginning of 2010?
Funny. I see a big delay in the future for Idou...... perhaps bigger than X1īs .
Posted by razec
how come the OS will only be done next year? the OS itself is still based on s60 5th according to AAS. so if the main platform is ready then the development of other components mp updates wont be too long now since SE has extensive experience with symbian OS. besides from what we have seen the platform is at least 50-60% ready.

Does Idou have a stylus?
Posted by djin
Hey SFOS should be ready by h2 2009 not 2010...unless they dealyed it, which i am un aware of...

I don't believe so....which is good because that means the UI has to be very finger-friendly.
I'm already getting excited for this phone, and it's nowhere near ready to be released:cry:

To everyone:
I just learned that the 12.25Mp module used by idou(highly assuming that it's the one sony announced long ago) uses a 28mm wide-angle lens - just so happened that Nokia N86 also uses 28mm as well.

OK, understood...
so one more q from me: are there any more S60 phones to be announced ? maybe the one with qwerty?

Its confirmed that Idou has a resistive touchscreen. I don't mind it though, as long as the final UI ends up being as responsive as we saw yesterday.

Resistive is futile.

I just can`t stop smiling when i see IDOU
Great SE moves ... Now I anticipate some N97 competitor from SE, with 5 mpx and qwerty with IDOU design ... I think that will come ... 8 mpx candybar would be good move too ...
SE gave us WOOOW effect , that was what we wanted ! THX SE
Posted by razec
As far as i can remember yurika was rumored to be another SF phone complete with qwerty keyboard and 8mp camera. we might see this announced on cebit - hope it does, also this might be an Xperia
Posted by moogoo
looking forward to CeBit for sure! There's high potential for more surprises from SE... can't wait
Posted by se_love

It has many advantages over capacitive and vice versa. But looking at the UI speed and how accurately Idou registers finger swipes, I don't mind it at all.

Why should either of us let that get in the way of a good Borg gag?
Seriously, resistive screens do the job and have some advantages, but there's no question that capacative screens are more durable and have much better daylight visibility... after years of resistive screens, I'd be hard pressed to go back to that after my iPhone.

since Idou is s60, do u think its gonna have stuff usually present in Nseries phones like fm transmitter? care to speculate
Posted by se_love
Dunno good question. Also hmm its S60 but with sony ericsson touch. Goodi hope so as well if sony ericsson can make that god awful complicated pice of UI into simplicity of the A200 platform i will be happy.

What happened to the W350 upgrade and arnt we due at W980 & F305 upgrade by now??

Yes, Idou is awesome.
