You agree that it's annoying, you pay a lot of money for these phones. It would be easy for Se to add it, every other manufacturer seems to find it easy too. 3.5mm jack won't add that much bulk and is well worth the convenience. You carry on with your annoying phone.
I don't think a FastPort-3.5mm connector is inconvenient at all... Having able to use my headphones as a microphone is nice to me =)

Spec page on GSMArena is up and it says expected release q2. I thought it was going to be announced properly in the summer?

It's not that impressive. That's been standard Symbian fare for years.
And a lot of GSMArena's specs, I think, are guesses at this point. Logical guesses, but definitely not official.
Posted by londonlad123
I guess you have had to get use to it and I'm used to nothing sticking out the side. It is still a good phone but not for music imo.

Q2 is the second quarter of the year. That is to say, April, May and June.

Q2 2009 means like January 2010 for SE
j/k. April May June = Q2. Lets see if they can do it.
Posted by bavlondon2
So are they insinuating that it could be shipped close to as soon as they announce the phone? Would be impressive but given their track record id put money on it not happening. Then again maybe they have been working on this for a while.
Apple should be scared.

dimensions! we need dimensions, so we knw if it'll fit in our pockects(they'll be empty tho, afta how much i'm guessing we'll be paying for it)
Posted by bavlondon2
I have an iphone which has the same screen size so go by that if you are worried about it fitting in your pocket. Samsungs Omina HD is a 3. inch screen so im sure this will be fine for you.

GSM arena specs are probably not uber accurate. i'll wait for an official spec sheet from SE....
Especially since GSM arena doesn't have tri-band HSDPA as a feature
Posted by goldenface
The sooner this phone comes out the better. I'm sort of rather glad SE chose to give us a couple of phones that seem to pack a lot of features as opposed to lots of phones with missing features.
It probably also shows that they are expecting to contract this year, when there will be less phones sold all around. I think the worse thing to do now would be to announce a shed load of expensive phones when hardly any will be sold in this economic climate.
The Idou already has its fans and if they can pull this off with a smooth glitch-free launch then they're onto a good thing.
The hands-on video of it is simply immense.

I really hate the two "NOKIA" buttons on the bottom of the Idou (the green and red ones).
Other than that it looks promising, form factor is good too :]

Geeze what's up with peoples reading skills. Idou is scheaduled for release second half of 2009. The announcement is scheaduled for Q2.
Just because GSMarena have trouble understanding english people think its gonna released in Q2 and when they realize its not, they are gonna cry like babies at SE for postponing a release date they have never given.

Does anyone think that the operating system for the mobile will still allow Wap access as well as Normal internet access? or would it only be normal internet access like iphone? Or would it allow wap access and normal full internet access like k850i?

Idou is looking real nice.

i agree.. i don't like these nokia buttons either...

This is a serious question to all those with insider info here:
will there be any new announcements tomorrow? I seriously ask coz that's the only thing tha haters seem to hang on to, right now.
Posted by apolloa
My thoughts:
Crap the fact they only launched one phone.
The Idou? Hmmm, looks damn fast, slick interface, it does not IMO look as practical, fresh and innovative and the Palm Pre's but that assumption is based on a 30 sec video, but that camera! Also if it does indeed have a 3.5 inch screen then it's too big for me as it will be too wide, oh and the Omnia HD has a 3.7 inch screen according to Engadget and is a slab.
I think I will get the Palm Pre cause at the end of the day I like it and that's what counts. I prefer a smaller screen.
I have to say though, thank God for Apple. The way it's shaken the industry up is fantastic, but we are now going to have several phones that all do similar things with the OS etc. The choice will most certainly be yours. I would also say the Idou look's like an N97 killer.
So I won't bitch and moan about SE now, they have a good concept which I think will prepare them to go against Nokia very well. I just hope it keeps the same specs and that car sat nav software will be out for the Palm Pre before the end of the year? I just hate what happened with Paris and Bei Bei, I just hope we don't all get hyped up for it to be cancelled or the spec dropped, it does feel good though for Nokia to have killed UIQ only for SE to utilise it's new OS in a device that currently destroys any Nokia LOL.
It's just a shame none of this will happen till towards the end of the year.

this is purely speculation.. but me thinks idou will be a cybershot ..
purely from the fact that mizzle has the idou post filed under cybershot...
this may just be temporary due to the 12mp cam.. but who knows? maybe it's a hint.. haha..
this is NOT FACT.. just my speculation...

Omnia HD is already announced and confirmed. That's how business is done
Concept is being displayed to the common public
concept has a website of its own
the anchor was holding the concept in his hands
and we still dont know in which form it will come out. Damn us.We are such big idiots.
Sorry misinfo-wizard, you are the best.
Every heard of the term 'prototype'?
But we will see in 2010

The UI of Idou from the demo tour seems to have an awful lot in common with UIQ demo we seen a few months ago. Very slick!
Oh and some official press pictures over on Mizzle's Blog.

makes sense. why wuld they use 12mp on a non-cybershot phone? unless its some crazy xperia device. wateva the case the phone is awesome!

Has any SE representative actually stated that Idou is running on a Symbian platform (S60 or SF)? Or has everyone just started assuming things again? As far as I'm aware we still don't officially know what it runs on. Shame we dont get to see the other parts of the phone UI other than the music and gallery.

is this a demo tour video http://www.sonyericsson.com/idou/ . Its so impressive it is or not it reminds me of the k750 demo tour, the most impressive one.

From Engadgets website after the event:
We didn't doubt it for a second (okay, maybe one second), but Sony's so-called Idou is for real. Though, we wouldn't go memorizing that name or anything, 'cause SE has plans to change it to something more commercial before summer. At any rate, the touchscreen-heavy handset -- which will run Symbian Foundation at launch
Better video on You Tube from Mobile Burn of the device held in a hand but not switched on:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-Q7AYRatuM
In fact do a search for it on there, the videos are uploading thick and fast!

Well seeing as every blog, tech website, mobile phone website states the same Symbian Foundation OS will run on it I would think it's a fact currently. But no doubt the net will be full of tons of info by the end of the week.

regarding idou's name
couldn't it very well be a xperia handset ? if its part of this unlimited entertainment thingy, no other branding would really make sense

My thoughts exactly. It seems to have fantastic music and imaging credentials so its a convergence device like no other I have seen.
I'm guessing that it will.

It's said that Idou has a micro sdhc card slot
==> http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_[....]u_turns_into_w995-news-794.php :
"You would be rather surprised however that the Sony Ericsson Idou has a microSD memory card slot. That means that the manufacturer of the device is again not Sony Ericsson themselves - just as XPERIA X1."

idou might be renamed under cybershot brand because of the back design, presence of xenon flash and its the first handset to yield the 12mp module. its very illogical to think that all those imaging capabilities will be first implemented on an xperia.
Posted by sealover94
Posted by echo.shane
according to gsmarena its 111 x 54 x 15 mm
Posted by Legen
the u.i kinda looks like the stuff UIQ promised before they went under, dn't u agree?

Well the W995 is top of the range judging by its name. It could be C995 though I doubt it.
I can't think of any reason why the Xperia line shouldn't have high end imaging - just because the X1 only had a 3 MP cam. As a smartphone, I would guess Xperia, only because Xperia was launched with convergence in mind.
