GPS?
sounds it's a dupe of C905 but with bigger screen..

Bear in mind this is very likely to be the flagship walkman for 2009, with those kinds of specs (cmon, itd take a walkman to have walkman 4.0 player first, equally so to have a fastport AND a 3.5mm jack). Therefore, it isnt likely to be around 'till this time next year. W905 sounds a probable name. I love the spec sheet though, I can really start to see it getting to the point where you can expect it to have everything you need without any compromising (because of subrand or position in the portfolio or functionality or technology or battery life or anything) (if you are willing to pay for it).

or it might be the successor of w960
Posted by iqtidar
must be the walkman version of c905

any more updates on frances? or any of the other cybershot models?

QVGA video again? so disappinting imo. all the other brands out there were spawning better video rec. quality than SE. be it imaging based or not. it's a big slap in the face of SE which happens to have one of it's parent excelling alot in this aspect.
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
@razec: It is only a Walkman phone and as we know, Walkman camera features follow Cyber-shot by around a year when SE is being normal, so we can't expect better video in a Walkman phone until we see it in a Cyber-shot, in my opinion.
Too be honest, I suspected that Hikaru and this device talked about here were different devices, as I have heard a few people mention these specs along with the fact it is not a smartphone, yet we know Hikaru is a smartphone.

Those of you keeping up with Clauf's Keitai thread may have noticed this interesting comment in Sony α's post:
Further news says we will see a BRAVIA branded handset in the UK next year, as the HTC HD takes displays to a new level. Sony Ericsson are going to be using the Sony x BRAVIA tie to launch High resolution Mobiles in the UK, although - keep in mind this may only be the one 'Hero Handset', in the form of the 8800 from Nokia - in saying it will be highly sought after - so not an average run of the mill handset.
So a Bravia handset soon perhaps?
Cheers Sony α!

i hope this w905/hikaru/whatever is slim...about 14-15mm
that would be perfect.
But the specs are too good for a 14mm phone.

If you wait until next april, you will probably get a lot more info on upcoming open devices from the then ex-sonyericsson employees.

I cant wait for MWC. That 8mp pixel walkman seems nice. But i say at least release it after having 3-4 mid range 5mp walkmans then release it. At least to break the mold and not have the w902 all exclusive. Walkman 4.0 surely will be a beadt compared to the latest version. Im not completly sure though if they would make the first 8mp walkman a smartphone. Have a couple to break the mold then do so. And the smartphone one seeing as its a smartphone should be w980 or some sorts to be the 960 succesor.

Sorry for responding so late - Excellent work Oli, truely Excellent! You've captured my imagination on the front page layout and improved very well.

Smape mentions something about the new version panel UI that future xperias will feature later on. i do hope it will feature more eyecandies as well as more useful panels. not the gimmicky panels that x1 has. i'm also eager to see SE's s60 phone.
Those panels are not gimmicky imho, very useful. I cannot WAIT to see
's S60 phone either ... along with the integrated TAK for GUI we'll see better improvments than SBP Shell & panels. Any updates on the latest X series?

Project Capuchin evolution includes Symbian Foundation
Sony Ericsson will base phones on the upcoming Symbian Foundation platform in the future but as the Symbian Foundation is not a reality yet, we suggest you use the Symbian/S60 5th edition SDK for application development as this will be compatible with the upcoming Symbian Foundation platform.

Right, any update on S60/SF super smartphone??

I'm eager to see SE S60 phone. though after seeing the WM6.5 screenshots i become more interested on the latter. esp that i still doubt nokia s60 UI experts are that good when it comes to UI experience.

Thanks to Waschbär Rocky at SE-World, we can now solve the sentences by prudent.
Well Hicaru is interesting with these aspects:
* One feature has been copied from N96
* One feature that has been accused of missing from Walkman for a long time now
* Screen size has been changed in positive aspects
What is the fuzz with Hicaru being an UIQ device? I dont get that.

Copied from N96: The kickstand.
Missing from Walkman: 3.5mm jack.
Screen size: 2.6".
Oh god... Nokia copied Sony Ericsson with the kickstand. I think Sony Ericsson was the first company the offered a kickstand into a phone with the SO905i... a walkman/entertainment device for Japanese operator DoCoMo.

Nice. But thats not outside japan so it could be considered that way. No?
Also the 8mp camera walkman would be a w905 w910 model right? So then why not have it a swivel evolved? Like a swivel phone with 8mp. Succesor to the w900

Could you give links to these screenahots??

Here are they (on a dutch site however). I think they are fake.

def fake... looks fake to me...

Nope thats the acual windows mobile 6.5 Anyway before sony ericsson start making 8mp pixel walkmans they should focus on more 5mp walkmans that could also be afordable and have 5mp a low-mid pixel size. I mean what there is only about 2-3 5mp cybershots one 5mp walkman and no s or t 5mp camera ones. Let the camera of 5mp get more used then start aiming for the 8mp phones.

Dick said that the JavaOne phone was to be released this year. Did he just lie to us or what? I think he did.
I have been told that the UI of the new SF phones from
look and have the feel of UIQ. In contrast, Nokia have made their UI very distinctive to Nokia i.e. you know its a Nokia from looking at the menu. I have no idea of what is similar for
but I would imagine that it is the menus and stuff. Maybe others can confirm?

^^ You mean Rikko Sakaguchi mentioned it. Yes it certainly does seem like he lied

well after using a touchscreen phone for a few months now (G900), i can say that i'm looking forward to an 8.1mpx touchscreen with xenon flash. led photolight just isn't good enough.

Whatever. What is the big difference between 5mp and 8mp :S It's only marketing, and the higher the mp count, the better it sells.
Posted by se_love
A lot. The biggest size print with 5mp is A4 while with 8mp its poster sized. And as you says it helps them sell more. So lets say yo start releasing a bunch of t or s sieres phones with 5mp cams while your keeping the walkman phones with the low 3.2mp. Obviously it would be a bad decison as the w series phones are the high sellers of se. Why have the walkman phones sell less then the t series or s series phones due to the camera when you could make them all have an average of 5mp and have balanced sales papers.
Posted by domipost
But why not implementing a 8mp cam with less features than in the Cyber-Shot phones, then? Just like with the walkmans, all phones have the walkman player, but miss some features.

But to print posters of your 8mp shots you need a real digicam.
Posted by idumbakumar
for me a good 5mp shooter with K850i flashing system is enough. of course a good video cababilities.
Posted by K71
well all of the pictures i print out are 6 x 4 inch. i noticed a definate improvement of picture quality going from my K800 to the G900, so i imagine that printing 6 x 4 pictures from an 8.1mpx would be a step up again in terms of quality, so thats all i'm after really, as i don't have a separate camera, i rely on my phone for taking all my pictures (obviously this means i'm not a serious photographer, but i'd still like some good quality shots overall to print out)
Posted by razec
@badassman, that is the obvious thing SE will do with its own SF platform. i dont think SE would just settle for the unattractive icons that nokia uses. we cam bet SE will port the media center and other standard SE software features as well.
Posted by Santa_Claus
The future S60 devices from SE will have custom GUI.
Posted by Raja
Any rumours if SE are planning to take on high end handsets like Nokia 8800 series?

You can tell when they used the OS X icon for the today function...

It could just be a concept though. The same things were said about the supposed mock up images of WM7.

Quite right. They are definitely fake. They've used the exact same picture as used in OS X, but they've blown it up a bit (so it actually looks a bit blurry and crap), see:

Regarding the next announcement. This report seems to think the next announcement is in January at CES. Might the lower-end phones be seen at CES and the good stuff at Mobile World Congress?

Excellent. They realised finally that to many phones where released. Now if that means that they will scale down phones might acually have better quality and break less easily.

sry for OT, but i want to thank all esato-members for sharing their information about upcomming cellphones. I liked to read the old thread for 2008 and i'll enjoy reading this one.
