The prank calls. On the day of the RADIO broardcast there were only 2 complaints. Now theres 10000 lol. Its just people moaning again like about that little big planet. I like music cuz its about the only thing that isnt sensored. Surely though cuz it was a RADIO broardcast the rules dont apply. Such as there can be swearing at anytime on the radio but not on tv. I know for a fact there can be swearing on the radio at anytime cuz someone tried get the bbc for it but it was legal.

Johnathon Ross and Russell Brand you mean?

Posted by dougproctor
My personal opinion - they should sack both of them. Inexcusable behaviour!

Posted by Nanu
To be honest Doug, as an avid listener to Russell Brand's Saturday night radio show, this kind of thing is nothing unusual and I find it quite funny when he is talking to the people that actually answer the phone.

Andrew Sachs must have been aware of his style before agreeing to do the interview.

That said I do believe they went too far with what they said, they should never have left any messages on the answer phone, that is there mistake which could have been handled better.

I feel the real people at fault here are those who let the show go out as doing so has caused the real damage. The whole affair could have been kept private and apologies could have been issued without everybody knowing the ins and outs!

I know the behaviour is inexcusable now it is out, but they are a pair of comedians who "thought" it was funny, and like I say Russell ridicules somebody each week as it is his way of being funny.

That is exactly right it is ment as a joke. Yes they took it 2 far but they have said sorry.

Being an old fart like doug, i agree with him on this, TBH i don't get the Mighty boosh, however i can understand the imagination and creativity that goes into that program.
Russel brands whole career is based upon him shagging various people, and then slagging them off afterwards, no real talent required there IMO.
Leaving a disgusting message on an old mans answerphone and then broadcasting it afterwards is pretty damn sick i reckon, sack the both of em i say!!

However its on radio2 a free service kindly put out with 2 highly known presenters. You know its their first error in i dont know how many years and they got permission before they did the prank and the beeb allowed it to go on air. They are only a minor part of the chain. I love the show friday night with johnothen ross and watch it every friday and its no differant to any other comedy show.

Posted by Nanu
Exactly MWEB leaving the message is one thing but then allowing it to be broadcast to the nation is another!

Andrew Sachs must have known what he was getting into, there are countless old men who have endured the wrath of Russell via telephone on his radio show and many have given back as good as they have got and it has all been in good fun and has had me in fits of laughter, one of the best was with Peter Sallis.

I agree that they went overboard, and Ross shouting "he f*c*ed your granddaughter" is bang out of order.

BUT this could have and should have been stopped from being broadcast, it could have been nipped in the bud, without all of the hurt being caused.

It COULD have all been settled in private with the message being kept within the BBC and Sachs house, and I feel that those who let the "prerecorded" show go out are responsible!!

Brand and Ross made the gun the BBC pulled the trigger!

Posted by MWEB
Quite true, misguided producers who allowed the thing to air bear some responsibility too.

Posted by bavlondon2
To be honest this isnt that big a deal but there are many out there who dont like these 2 presenters anyway so are just jumping on the bandwagon. Im sure the people on fonejacker are not that amused either but then again they dont stoop that low in terms of content.

The silly thing though is that this was a pre recorded show so whichever muppet approved that content deserves to be sacked for sure. I dont like how much Ross makes so would love to see him sacked.

This will no doubt reignite the age old question of why we are still paying for the BBC licence fee.

Again, to me personally, Russell Brand/Johnathon Ross do not equal comedians but that is my opinion. I know I am showing my age, but I went to see a Ken Dodd show a month ago. He was on the stage, with a short break, from 1930 to 0050 and did not use anything stronger that the odd bugger/sod it. Most "comedians" nowadays can't string a short sentence together without resorting to bad language. And as for lasting for nearly four hours - well. I spent 29 years in the Navy so am no angel with language but there is a limit.
As Mweb says, it must be an age thing! I hate the TV when, at one minute past 2100, we get every profanity imaginable broadcast on all channels - it appears to be okay then. At least they now give out a warning so the kids - or the granny - can be sent to bed!!
Need a lie down now - must be an age thing!
Night night!
Doug

I'm not a big fan of Brand either, I just don't find him funny at all, some people are raving about how funny he is but I can't even raise a smirk when listening/watching him (Which is never for more than 5 minutes!). There seem to be too many shows and comedians who only seem able to raise a laugh by swearing a lot or being rude to people. Perhaps it's just me but I actually hate all those shows which get off on pranking people in rather nasty ways - I know I would hate to be on the recieving end of something like that, and quite likely to forget my non-violent nature and smack someone in the face if they tried any of that crap on me! The pranks don't seem quite as 'good natured' as in progs like 'beadles about' or Noel Edmunds' NTV on 'Noel's House Party'!

.
.
.
.

...... Sorry for the delay, I was just lighting my pipe and popping on my tartan-pattern slippers whilst sipping warm cocoa

Again, it's probably the ratings-hungry producers who are more to blame here though as the show wasn't live and they had every opportunity to stop this from being broadcast.

I can't stand that schoolboy humour Jonathan Ross is famous for. The quicker he gets off the TV the better - the smarmy fool!

The whole episode is ridiculous - the BBC is dragging its heels over all this because if they manage to ride out this huge wave of criticism then they'll have made a lot of good publicity for the radio show from these two blithering idiots.

SACK'EM!

@brownie1989
This has not been the first time for Russell to be warned this year as he made a prank call to the Police earlier in the year.
It is also not to do with the swearing but to do with the lewdness of the repeaded calls about the person grand daughter.
I agree that there are lot of people complaining now because they are jumping on the bandwagon but I also think this should not have been allowed to happen.

Posted by Nanu
It appears Ross and Brand have now been suspended from broadcast until the whole thing has been dealt with!

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Good. I can't stand the way Russell Brand yells everything he says. He sounds like an idiot (and looks like one too). First I had ever heard of him was when he hosted the MTV Video Music Awards a month or two back, and most of the American audience were a bit WTF about him.

Posted by dougproctor
THEY'RE OFF ! YEAH..............

He did such a bad job of it they've asked him back next year!

TBH I don't like all the sport they put on TV as I can't stand football etc
but I'll never ask for football to not be shown on TV or whinge about it.

I'll just refrain from watching it and then for me at least the problem is solved,

Live and let live, each to their own etc etc etc etc. . . . . . . . .

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
They invited him back? Wow.

Posted by thomas93
On Tuesday afternoon, Sachs told the BBC that Ross had "personally delivered a letter of apology and some flowers" since the broadcast.

He has not "heard anything" from Brand, the actor added.

Shows Brand up for what he really is.

Posted by Sammy_boy
Was just in an electrical store and on a tv showing sky news it said something about the pair been suspended!
If that's true then they've paid the price, producers may be at fault but brand and Ross made the initial mistake with those stupid calls.

Posted by brownie1989
No friday night with rossy for me then this friday. And how can it restart the bbc fees debate. Bbc radio is free. I know people that listen to it that dont have a tv liecence.

Posted by arien617
^^
People without licenses can also watch iPlayer and BBC Television... just because they do it doesn't mean it's free or legal.

AFAIK you don't need a TV Licence to listen to the radio but BBC radio is funded by the licence payer!

They have indeed been suspended:

Actually,he has sent a letter of apology.
And has also resigned from radio 2

Posted by thomas93
Dicky, the quote was from the Beeb

And yeah he's quit

Posted by brownie1989
You DO NOT need a licence to use iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bb[....]r_does_not_require_a_tv_1.html

If you want my honest opinion, as sad as it sounds I sometimes watch BBC News, and as you Brits know, daytime TV is "AWFUL". So, I tuned in to BBC News 24, and the main headline
"Brand and Ross Suspended"
As if we care, there was an earthquake in the middle of Pakistan which killed over 100 people and the main headline is about 2 idiots that have been prank calling, what does this say about the BBC?, the headline being someone prank called and not that over 100 people died.

PS. Why doesn't the Phonejacker get done when some awful radio presenters do? Surely the Phonejacker is worse? Or is the problem that PhoneJacker isn't a celeb

Tell me what you think
Luke

@brownie

Slight problem if you like the Johnathon Ross show!
They were supposed to be filming today and it got cancelled!

Sorry

Posted by MWEB
Phonejackers wages are not paid for by the likes of you and me, your quite correct about trivial matters taking headline news, but that happens very frequently on most media sources.
This is about drawing a line under what's acceptable for a public broadcaster to be engaged in, making lewd phone calls to a respected old man is not something anyone should be engaged in, never mind broadcasting it to the nation, Brand and Ross represent everything that's sick with the youth culture of today's Britain, where as long as it's good laugh for the lager louts, sod everybody elses feelings!!

Brand has resigned....

hmmmm

Posted by Nanu
Yes Dicky pointed that out over 2 hours ago!

Yes i am sick of celebs who earn so much money and act like idiots. Whatever happens it will ruin both their careers now anyway. I never really minded Johnathan Ross but could never stand Russell Brand i never find him funny and his hair looks like a tree.

Posted by Nanu
I don't think this will harm their careers in fact it may serve to do the opposite!

Posted by brownie1989
brand has got money coming out of his ears and is a well regarded comedian. He will get a new job in no time and probs for more money than the bbc pay. As for rossys show on friday being cancelled is rediculous. His show is completely differant to the brand one. Its just because there were so many complaints. Why spoil tv and radio. You know its just a little comedy show.

Hang on mate! I know young people and people in there 50s that watch brand and ross on tv and listen to the radio2 show in question. All have high paid jobs and respect and dont drink above 3-4 pints a week

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah i like Johnathan Ross show on Friday and find him funny and as regards to his humour and language well its late in the evening and he has a big following anyway. The BBC will lose out getting rid of him. Russell Brand just is not funny i dont like him.

Posted by brownie1989
Afaik ross has more fans than brand since his humour is more down to earth. He is funny but not stupid

Posted by pmerryman
They will both come out of this, smelling of roses. Look at what happened to Kate Moss, after all her drug issues. People were queueing up to give her million pound deals.

They both should have been sacked in my eyes, disgraceful behaviour.

Posted by brownie1989
The head of radio2 also resigned, i told u it wasnt rossys fault it was broadcast. There is going to be a whole new radio2 it seems. I dont think rossy will resign due to his friday night show

Posted by Daedalus85
This whole thing is complete and utter nonsense if you ask me.

I can't for the life of me see why people are complaining about this? 2 people, TWO PEOPLE, complained about it, there's probably more complaints from each episode of Top Gear than there were for this. And then AS SOON as the tabloids got hold of it (obviously a slow news day), the 'reported' 27,000 complaints came flooding in, for no reason other than silly old fools having an excuse to moan over bugger all.

For goodness sake, lighten up, have a sense of humour and let the whole bloody thing go, these two have been disgraced not by themselves, but by everyone else dragging them through the mud.

The BBC will most likely recieve MORE complaints on friday when Jonathon Ross's show isn't aired, due to the sheer popularity of it.

Posted by Trev1982
so they played a prank and went to far hey ho, get over it,

Posted by Kwiksta
Personally can't stand Ross and don't find anything special about him over other presenters. Good riddance.

That's just my two cents though.

Posted by brownie1989
Can not aelieve this now clarkson is under investigation for that truck driver sketch on top gear. Again bad move by bbc for going ahead with tge broadcast

Posted by arien617
The show isn't under investigation yet:

BBC News
Media regulator watchdog Ofcom said it had also been contacted by viewers angry at the remarks.

A spokesman said: "We're looking at complaints we've received but we're not currently investigating the programme."

Source.

i think people need to chill the f*ck out. It was a joke FFS

Posted by thomas93
Dicky, apparantly your under investiation for that comment.

This is all way out of proportion.
