Android on the P1?

Hi guys,
As most of you may now know, Android is about to hit the street in a couple of weeks.
Android is said to be open source, I'm keeping open for a port of the OS on the HTC touch diamond, it could be cool.
However, I also have a good old P1 on my shelves to which i would love to give a new lease of life. Do you know if anyone is working on porting Android on he P1? I remember a few months ago a picture of Android allegedly running on the P990, but it seemed to be a fake.
Alternatively has anyone heard of a Linux whic would boot on the P1? I know there is Haret for the HTC WinMo phones. Anything similar for UIQ?

Thanks.

It's impossible to install android on your P1. You can only watch it here ( or buy G1 ) - http://tmobile.modeaondemand.com/htc/g1/

And I don't think that it will be possible...ever.

Even if it was possible, I still don't think I would install it. Not before there is Bluetooth-support. About a month ago I read somewhere that the developers removed BT-support to "finish" Android on schedule.

Android is based on Linux and is said to be able to run on any hardware so I don't see why it couldn't run on the P1 granted the right "drivers" are found.
The only hurdle is to be able to boot a Linux OS.

It's a shame I don't have the skills.

If it can run on any hardware maybe it is possible to port it on the p1, but that would require a lot of programming. Anyway I like it's interface as much as UIQ. Hope to see new Sony Ericsson phones running android soon.

I don't believe it would be possible for Android to work on P1, simply because no one would invest so much resource and time to it.
I did try Android on my Tytn II briefly and wasn't very impressed with it. Granted, it was an earlier beta version so maybe we should wait to see the real thing before passing on final judgment.

Well the new interface is rather nice, I do like it.
The G1 from HTC sold by t-mobile will hit the street on the 22th in the uk, and there are a few reviews floating on the net already.
IT looks like a good OS to me hence the request.

Linux absolutely doesn't run on any platform/architecture. It's more likely to say that BSD will run on a P1. Check out how many platform /architectures NetBSD supports:

This brings up another (off-topic) question: Why do many vendors put so many effort in developing and supporting Linux while there are several alternatives available which are far more mature, secure, stable and portable?

Running Android on P1 should be doable. There is Debian for the ARM processor that is powering up the P1 [~40MB].

Linux can run on any piece of equipment, it's even running routers for pete's sake. The only problem i can see would be the drivers which might be hard to come by, but i'm sure someone can procure those if they wanted to.

I know Linux can run on anything and yes the challenge is in getting the drivers.
I think it would be interesting for someone to take charge of this.
I unfortunately don't have any skills so can't do much unfortunately.
For info the code for Android is now available (kernel and other sources).

[G]avster, is that running stable? I just got to make a try with that! Will it be ready for release?

[G]avster, we would really want to know if these are true screens.
Maybe a video could help!!!

And are you going to publish it also???

This is not the Android platform running. It's just a "skin". It is thanks to Gdesk
