Press Release

Seoul, Korea- October 13, 2008 - LG Electronics (LG), a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, and PRADA Group (Prada) today announced that the partnership that created the PRADA Phone by LG will release its second handset before the end of the year.

Almost identical to the highly successful original, the new telephone has a hidden secret. In one smooth movement the ultra-thin keyboard slides from under the handset. As serenely as it appears it slides invisibly, effortlessly away - a modern icon of mobile style and design with an extra competitive edge.

The new Prada phone by LG is the highly anticipated successor to the original Prada phone, which first brought Prada together with LG, one of the most advanced technology companies in the world.

The Prada phone made history as the first full touch-screen phone to reach the market. With all the characteristics of the most digitally enhanced phones it was also a powerful aesthetic pioneer and quickly established its hold on the industry with over 1 million design-conscious users demanding handsets.

Its elegant good looks combined with a digitally sophisticated interface made it instantly appealing. The culmination of Prada research and development in the complete interior as well as exterior design and functionality of the phone and accessories was key to this success.

The unique QWERTY keyboard available only with the new telephone is designed for maximum ease of use. The metallic feel makes it a pleasure to touch and type, complimenting the slick design aesthetic. The silver keyboard along with the additional on-screen, call and hang-up buttons gives fresh tactility to the original minimal concept.

Other enhanced features include 3G compatibility with video calling, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, full HTML browser, the 5 mega pixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens, and Wi-Fi accessibility.

The second Prada handset by LG is not just for pleasure, this is a luxury design accessory that can also compete on every level with the most technological hand held devices.

The new Prada mobile will be available with a starting price of 600 Euros though major mobile dealerships in Italy, UK, France, Germany, Spain and Netherlands in the 4Q of 2008.

X1 rival? Like never.

^^ agree, Its lg (read: pile of shit)

Well, TBH, the three buttons on the front panel look a tad better than the tacky buttons on the X1. I haven't used the X1 yet though, so my opinions are subject to change.

Posted by gola
Appearance wise, the X1 looks better imo...

Posted by QVGA
Prada isnt a smartphone

i couldnt agree more..
to me it just looks like a plain X1 - more or less a bland version of it..not as 'sexy' looking as the xperia:)

Posted by razec
Other than camera this phone cannot compare with X1. and yes they must not be compared at all as its not even a smartphone. the design is not fresh as well - it looks like a cheaper version of X1. especially that its marketed as fashion device.

Posted by DarkKrypt
htc touch diamond/pro and xperia x1 look heaps better then this.
You quite possibly better be a Lg fanboy to get this, honestly.lol

Posted by razec
Prada fanboy perhaps

I like the keypad of the Prada, but honestly the rest of the thing is so plain! Like where is the design effort that went into this? At least the X1 has it's own style! This is a rectangle with another rectangle for the screen, and then another rectangle slides out for the keypad.

...And other rectangles you can press on for the buttons.

It does look like a Chinese copy of the X1.

Posted by mobilemodman
. . . chineese copy of the iphone with a qwerty stuck to it

Posted by giancito
2 versions will be on 3G? europe and america?

Posted by Bonovox
I would choose the X1 over this and thats cos yes its SonyEricsson. LG though are releasing phones at a shockingly fast pace.

Posted by fatreg
I bet it'll launch ontime though unlike the X1

Posted by Daedalus85
I'd much much rather have this than the X1.

It's just clean, minimalistic modern design. Would you say the iPod is badly designed? That's just a circle and a square in a rectangle. Most popular and iconic device of it's kind for years though. Not that I'm putting these on the same level, but it definitely has it's own style. The original Prada has been bought by 1 million users, so it can't be that bad! Remember, it's just a fashion phone at the end of it all, designed with Prada to match their brand. How can it possibly be compared to a smartphone?
I'm not a huge fan of LG, but for a feature phone, i'm sure it'll be better than a couple of phones of late.
Roll on 2009 and a new portfolio.

Yeah, 8 months after announcement. That has to be some sort of record.

Obviously all your posts wanted to do is to lambast SE.

@qvga

it was announced then, doesnt mean it has to come out straight after.

gave a date when they announced it didnt they, so whats the issue. they never said it would come out 1 month after.

yeah but nokia hasnt pinned all their hopes on N96. X1 maybe released on time but its 8 months after its announcement, thats quite sad really. when it was announced it looked amazing, but now with all HTC models and omnia and other LG phones its not nearly as attractive as before.

the x1 isnt meant to be 's saviour but anyway.
the x1 still has one of the best feature lists on the market, any one who says it doesnt is plain wrong imho. so its still as 'attractive' now as it was when it was announced.

when a car maker announces a new model at a motor show and says its going to be available next year, does that make it quite sad? defiantely not.

ok this has nothing to do with the lg. moving on....

iphone was announced way before its launch. Any complains about that?

yeah but even now nothing compares to its interface. X1 is your usual WM phone with some gimmicky UI changes. That is nothing new, Samsung already beat SE to it with omnia and HTC with their touch interface.
Initially X1 had a WOW factor because there was no Omnia and there was no new HTC phone

But those two are aimed at the same market. The X1 and Prada II are different ends of the scale altogether.

@qvga,
Omnia beat x1i? In what way?
Touch flo and Panels are totally different, and i personally would go for panels as my choice, since after using touch flo, i do know its limitations when using it as in real life.
Touch flo is mostly what the UI of g900i(or u could say g900i's ui was a copy of it, whatever makes you happier) is.

Iphone, is a fashion statement, not credited for usability, so if your basically here, you must have passed on it already.

Marty is right!

@ Marty
Is the second part of yout alias named after the rumoured new burger from McDonalds? -Sorry, I hate McDonalds.

Back on Topic,

The X1 is a completely different phone! When have LG ever made a smartphone? I can pretty much guarantee they have mixed the software and style of the LG KS360 with the Prada 1 and slapped a Prada badge back on it. Apart from the adition of 3g (vid calling camera in pic?) I bet it isnt any different. Buying something with a label like this means you only want to call and txt anyways and care more about the people that see you with it than actually getting something with features. Anyhow, it will be "So last season" in 2 months anyways.

You dont get it do you? Toucn Flo, Widgets in Omnia and X panels are identical as far marketing is converned. These are the selling points of these devices. Without the X panels, X1 is just a big bulky WM device which we have quite a lot of already.

Posted by djin
I do get it, but how come omnia's widgets defeated x1's panels?
Arent they different concept?

Posted by C905
LG Prada II can also recording in 720 x 480 pixels with 30 FPS.

That's pretty amazing for a designer phone, I must admit

No they are not different. They just aim to bring the dead windows UI to life. Thats their entire point.

Posted by djin
Your right, their aim is to get windows UI more friendly and bring it to life,
But, Their concepts are different, and thats why, i dont think omnia's widgets do beat x1's panels.

Also while X1 is aimed for US, it isnt entirely late, becuz i think Omnia isnt released in US yet.

@C905,
Kool! Guess 1 mp video recording isnt far now from mobile phones.

'LG today launch the LG KF900 Prada or more commonly known as Prada II. They have also taken the opportunity to announce a Bluetooth wrist watch, which matches the fashionable handset and re-affirms its high-tech status.

There isn't much new stuff about the LG KF900 Prada itself that you haven't heard of already except maybe the fact that it's equipped with a capacitive touchscreen display that will support multi-touch functionality.

As much as some of you despise the iPhone it still remains the sole mainstream mobile phone to-date that offers multi-touch functionality. So as it seems the LG KF900 Prada will be the first to follow.

The multi-touch functionality of the LG KF900 Prada will be available in the image viewer, web browser, or document viewer.

Beside the launch of the handset, LG and PRADA also revealed a cool fashionable accessory called 'PRADA Link' (LG-LBA-T950). It's an elegant digital wristwatch, which actually is a Bluetooth device that can remotely monitor phone calls as well as allow you to read full SMS text messages. On top of that, the timepiece is water resistant, so you can keep track of your calls and messages while taking a bath or resting in the pool.'
