help! my phone crashed and it wont turn on!!! what should i do?

Posted by morbid.much
WOOOO F**KIN' HOOO!

just recieved my P800 today. So far so good, trying to test everything before my 1 week expires. It's R1D so I guess I'll have to upgrade it sometime Just wanted to drop by and say thanks to everyone who tolerated my annoying questions ;p Thanks for the help. Really appreciate it.

*grin*grin*grin*grin*grin*

@n6i2x9,

If the 10-second reset won't work (it is okay to do it even if there is no display), try taking the battery off and reinserting it again. If anything else you do won't work and your phone is within the 7-day warranty, have it replaced immediately. If it is past the 7-day, you might want to skip your dealer altogether and call SE direct. That is a serious problem.

@terrible

thanks.. im going to SE service center tomorrow...i hope they can fix it and i can get it tomorrow.... but it would be better if they would give me a new one hahaha

R2F upgrade now available @ SE shops... i'm just not sure what's the diff between that & R2D.

to anybody out there who has an expertise in se p800 im begging you guys to help me: it all started when i installed the booster pack of appforge on my fon. don't know what version it was neither the version of my fons os. i installed it coz appforge had a press release that they would be partners with SE in develponing programs for the p800. still i think installing non-SE programs would void me of my warranty. when i installed it, it gave me a warning to install at my OWN RISK! should have followed that warning. i looked at the details and said that the program was not digitally encrypted. i proceeded anyways and all was going smoothly. but before the booster was completely installed an installation error message appeared onscreen saying that connection hads been lost but the device was still on its hub. my heart skipped a beat and i said S***+ don't tell me. i quicly checked on my fon if it had any effect. lo and behold it had, the os started hanging up. it had a lag time that wasn't there before when i opened applications like the cam or internet browser. after a while it started to normalize again. the lag started to disappear and i had a sigh of relief. i turned the power off to see if it had any effect on start-up (was that wrong?) and my worst nightmare waa upon me, IT HAD but not at once. the lag returned and now i cant even open the applications at all save for viewing messages. again i turned the power off hoping maybe that it was all a bad dream and that when i turn it on it would all be okey. but that was the last time i ever saw the interface screen of my p800. now all that's left is the welcome screensaver that you see when you open the fon and its stuck up there. i guess turning the device off made matters worse in my opinion. all of this happened just last night. i havent had it checked yet but i plan to later. my question is has any1 of you had any similar experience with appforge mobileVB booster installation and does my fon still have hope of being operational again? worst case scenario? please tell me something good and i promise to be contented with putting sounds, videos and music in my fon again. sob sob : (

Posted by Rotavap
@mecs - worst thing would be going to a SE service center (SESS, smartnet or semicon) and waiting for your phone to be fixed. Installing the app doesnt void the warranty.

Posted by Mecs
@Rotavap-i bought it at semicon kasi...
they told me not to install apps that are not authorized by SE like programs that can make the p800 take videos ala7650...
when i saw kasi that appforge has agreed with se to make new apps ininstall ko na disregarding the install at your own risk warning. do you get those warnings to when you install new apps or is it just me?

Posted by 619
mecs... i think you saved that appz inside your phone. (phone memo full) i suggest that u uninstall that file.

... i have installed more than 20 appz inside my P800, 6 mtv, 23 mp3. 1 smallville episode 220 im using 128mb ms duo.

Posted by Mecs
619: buti sana if i can do anything with my fon...
its stuck as we read in the screensaver welcome. and besides the app didn't finish installing so even if the fon was working i wouldn;t be able to uninstall it anyway.

@mecs go to semicon and have it flash, dont forget to bring your OR.

Posted by denong
ei guys could u help me to set up so i can send pics as an email... like in my old t68i. i dont mind if i cant receive as long as i can send. im curntly using globe, post paid. thanks in advce!...

Posted by ferrarista44
@denong- hmm, u can try your service provider's MMS service sent to the recepient's email rather than the phone number... i think it should work the same.

Posted by Mecs
just went to semicon to have my p800 flashed and is operational again (very big sigh of RELIEF) i thought that was the end of my fon. yun nga lang the phone memory was wipped out. okey lang as long as it's still working.it's a blessing in disguise na din coz i learned about this thread in esato of proud owners of a p800. now i can ask you guys for tips and what softwares that wouldn't let my system down again.

Posted by terrible
@denong-

Sending thru MMS may not be a very reliable way especially since you are a Globe subs. Globe's MMS is not very reliable.

If you have a POP3 e-mail account, you can actually setup a POP3 client in your P800 and use your P800 to send and receive e-mails with or without attachments (can be pictures or audio). Medyo may charge ito (0.25 per kilobyte because you will be using Globe's internet gateway, not the WAP one. WAP used to be okay but when Globe realized the amount of data traffic going thru their WAP gateway, they blocked all other accesses except those that are pure WAP). It may not cost you an arm and a leg though. Isang get/send will probably only cost you twenty five cents (cheaper than text--huh).

Setting up the POP3 mail client may not be that complex if you are a bit techy. If you want you can join the phil_p800_club at yahoogroups.com and I can send you a detailed instruction on how to setup a POP3 or IMAP4 e-mail client in your P800. Mahirap dito sa web based forum (am not using an unlimited DSL account).

Okay. Hope to hear from you soon.

Posted by mjct6210
you're right globe's mms is not reliable. they charge you P5 per send with a limit of i think 60Kb lng ata. i had this infuriating experience a few days ago when my gprs is unavailable. i received an mms notification but ican't retrieve it. since their gprs wasn't available till the next day, i already received the sms notification that i have to retrieve the mms via their website and that sucks!!!

Just got myself 2 brandnew 128mb ms duo for php12,000 from a foreigner by just hanging out @ starbucks this afternoon! what a luck...hehe! :)

Posted by Mecs
cyber ray - i heard meron na daw sa greenhills coz a friend of my friend got his 128mb card at 9,000 so basically tinaga!

Posted by terrible
Talagang tinaga. I have already seen several computer shops selling the 128 MB Duos in Megamall, Shangri-la, Alabang Town Center, and SM Southmall and the average retail price is P 8,000. The 64 Mbs are now at P 4,500 (malas, I got mine when it was still at 5,500 and was sold in only one shop in Megamall). Moral lesson: Don't buy the 128 Mbs now, wait for a few more months or when the 256 Mbs come out and don't buy the 256 Mbs when they come out, buy them when the 512 Mbs come out.

A word of advice though; there is nothing wrong with having a lot of spaaaaace (128 Mb) but I find the 64 Mb to be comfortably big enough.

I load MP3 pro instead of MP3 (you can opt to load the Ogg version) for audio because they are half the size. So I am able to fit more songs. Even with Opera (the biggest app for the P800) installed and other software I bought from Epocware and downloaded from My-Symbian I still have enough leg room. The only time I would consider an upgrade to the 128 or 256, when it comes, is when a video recorder app is already available. I wouldn't even think it practical to store video for long even when it comes. I only store at least one video file for "show-off". You wouldn't want to watch a video (movie or MTV or yourself) over and over. So, if a new video comes, replace the old ones. I say this out of my experience with my laser/DVD collection. After buying a number of them, I seldom go over them and even try to see a title over again (that's why I don't buy them anymore, I just rent them). The only time I do that is when a friend comes over and would request to see a certain title.

Shooting video yourself would be a different story. But if you manage your video files well, you still would not require a very big storage. If you regularly archive your files to your desktop (of course you would have an unlimited size there--40 Gb at the minimum?--and very cheap) your Duo would be kept clean of old files and will always have room for new ones (then you can keep on shooting--pictures and videos).

where in southmall do they sell 128MB Duos? i was there early tonight but didnt see one... actually didnt sift through all the shops.
8k? killer.

Posted by CyberRay
@ mecs: 9,000 for 128ms duo? hmmm... tinaga nga... well lets hope and wait that S.E will soon have a much higher version of their memory stick duo... lets say 1000 mb! hehehe! :)

Posted by ferrarista44
have you guys checked this out?
TV on P800 killer.

What's with the antena??? The concept is pretty exciting but don't know if this is feasible. It seems to REQUIRE a hardware upgrade/modification for it to work. Also, i doubt if it will support cable so I still wont be able to catch Meteor Garden when I get stuck in traffic (whaat? I got hooked!)

Posted by mjct6210
hey guys, from what ive read, our p800 can only support upto 128mb ms duos lng. i do hope that the ms duo's price will go down soon.

Posted by jplacson
@CyberRay, ang mahal!!!! I got my 128MB for P7,300 from P800er.com... INCLUDING overnight (I ordered at 6pm, I got it 9am the next day) FedEx shipping. 128MB is pretty ok, although I think I'll be needing another one soon... purely for music/movies. My stick is now almost full, without music... I have a lot of reference books in it eh

I just noticed: the P800 documentation mentiond 4hrs to charge the batt. Even if I have the batt to super low (one time talagang drain) and the charge time does not reach 4hrs. Don't know if this is bad or good. Does anyone else experience this?

What are your charging strategies? Do you guys wait ma drain yun phone or do you charge when you get the chance? Also is it advicable to leave the phone off while charging or is it ok to leave it on?

Yup. This is a cool RPG. Like one of the old RPG's where you'd have to create action verbs to actaully do somthing. Pretty handy when you're in for a long wait with only your P800 by your side

good day! just got my p800 last sunday. i have a question if it won't be too stupid, please permit me. How do I connect to Yahoo Mail using Globe? what should be my settings? I tried requesting from 2951, but I don't think their settings work, or maybe the server is just way too slow? Please advise

Posted by KuyaJay
@marjonz.. well, you cant. Yahoo's POP3 access (which is what you use for accessing mail servers remotely) is no longer free. I think Globe also closed the ports for accessing POP3 accounts.. I tried using HotPOP (a free POP3 mail server) but to no avail...Hope this helps.

Or are you try to access yahoo through WAP?
if this is the case, the AutoConfig msg from 2951 should work fine.

'go p800' to 2951 usually works but sometimes you have to wait a few minutes. if i remember correctly you also have to reply to the accompanying text message so that it sends you all 3 settings (WAP, MMS, Web).

for yahoo, you might still be able to access it via WAP at wap.yahoo.com if it hasn't been blocked off yet. if not, and also for POP3 mail, you have to access it via the Internet setting (APN = internet.globe.com.ph) although you will be billed P0.25/kb for it.

Since, the P800 uses a Li-polymer, so you dont need wait drain the batt before charging... (unlike the old Ni-CD batts).
My p800 charges for around 1.5 hrs from a 5% battery level.
Charging your phone while turned off just charges it faster ( at least that's what i've noticed with mine.)

when i try to move *.ogg file i receive this message: "the file type is not allowed in the destination folder"

how can i transfer these file types?

Posted by senninha
when you transfer the ogg file to your phone, the phone will not allow you to store it in the audio folder. copy it to the documents folder instead. the ogg player will then find the files automatically when you start it up.

Posted by paulvince
thanks senninha, it worked.
