correction. SE Mobile Philippines was the name chosen for the organization of sonyericsson phone users during the grand EB.

SE Mobile Ph = the old PSEUG

hi

i have no intention of competing with your group.

i just want an easier way of communicating with other current P800 users here in the Philippines.

I visited your forum but it is web-based.

Also, we have 5 members already. Some have shared their current experiences/problems with the P800.

Just want to focus on the P800 only...

Oh, Philippines was included in the name so other Filipinos can join...

Thank you very much.

I hope you won't delete this thread at all like they did at buyncell.com

Was there a firmware update available today?

Posted by spoon
Hi,

I have been talking with DJ of Sony Ericsson Phils since last week regarding the firmware update for the P800.
Yesterday, she told me that I can go to SESS in (VA Rufino St. Makati) to have my phone's firmware updated to R1C (Phone). I was able to get a copy of the latest PC Suite. I just brought a blank CD and they made me a copy of the software.

Initially, I was told that I had to wait for two hours for the whole updating process. I went back after two hours (6:30 last night) and then Anne of SESS informed me that it would take another thirty minutes more. After 2 hours and 40 minutes, I was able to get my phone.

I was shocked to see that I received the SAME version I got when I bought my unit. I was really disappointed and I told the guy who updated my phone's firmware that everything remains the same. He gave me unacceptable replies. He claims that R1C of the Organiser was the one updated to R1C while the other 3 (bluetooth, phone and CDA) were not updated at all. It was updated daw to improve the speed of the phone! Then I showed him some of the bugs that I had been experiencing like the Sony Ericsson logo appearing in the communicam viewfinder.

I was really disappointed. I even went to Semicon Power Plant just to confirm that I still had the same version. I was right!

It was around 8:30 p.m. already so I could not call Sony Ericsson or SESS already. I was really.... arrrgghh.

I called DJ of Sony Ericsson Phils and she told me that their unit had an R1C (Phone) and R1F (Organiser). Well anyway, I was able to talk to SESS and Sony Ericsson Phils for a couple of times before I was given an explanation for all the hassle.

They called up Sony Ericsson in Singapore. According to them, what they downloaded had the WRONG file name or something because it was listed as R1C but the content was actually R1B (Phone). The promised R1C version would be available in about two weeks time. They apologized but still I wasted a lot of time...

At least I have the new PC Suite CD. It has a confusing version. When you install it, you would see a version 1.0.6. But when you right-click on the P800 icon on the system tray (near the clock of your PC's desktop) and select the Phone monitor's About menu, it would be listed at 1.10. Anyway, backup/restore is version 1.4.2.0.

I think this would solve the synch issues for other people... I recommend that you get this version. Don't forget to bring a blank CD to SESS.

@spoon- u shouldve read the Smartnet thread regarding P800 upgrade..

Posted by 619
no need to upgrade for now.... old version kahit sa smartnet.

regarding the Assign the name, etc to it and it would then be saved. You can verify this by going to your Contact directory. Then, go to the Messages menu and create an SMS. Try sending an SMS to the person you recently added. You would discover that you can't send an sms because that particular contact is not reflected as an option. Go back to the Contacts menu and you would see that it's there.

edit the phone and place the phone number to the MOBILE category.

Posted by spoon
I tried going there but I couldn't see anything...

Anyway, I went to have the firmware updated because it was available na only at SESS according to SE.

Disastrous thing...

Posted by 619
what sess have, smartnet will also have.

Posted by spoon
thanks for the SMS sending problem. I tried it already.

Amyway, SE Phils told me that SESS was the only place to get it since they instructed them to download them the night before. So it wasn't available to SmartNet.

And SE Singapore confirmed that the R1C file in their site had the wrong content.

Thanks again.

Posted by 619
so, did it solve the sms sending?

re the SE logo blocking the viewfinder, i have that problem on the second day of my unit, after master setting.. it didnt happen anymore.

Posted by spoon
yes it works! thanks a lot.

This has been my 3rd uinit and I still experience the SE logo problem once in a while. Even after it was re-flashed agian last night, I experienced it in front of the guy who updated it. I also tried the master reset button before...

Thanks again.

Posted by boogee
@spoon bout the se logo on your viewfinder,ur not d only one.even i had that problem before, what i do is i turn the fon off after a while turn it on again then it goes back to normal,i think it happened to me 3 or 4 times during its first week of use.

Posted by 619
anyway, even the viewfinder is blocked, u can still take picture.

Posted by jhermano
@619
about the logo in the viewfinder, you said you did a master reset as in the one in control panel>>device and it didnt happen again? Havent tried a master reset yet kasi. Have done a ton of those 10sec power resets. seems like I have to do it more often now, like at least twice a day.

does anybody know if the new firmware addresses this warning sign prob?

Does someone here really have the video messaging app?

Posted by spoon
yes i can take pictures but it's harder. hehe.

the problem like i said, happens once every week at least.

but the yellow triangle that asks you to press the power button for 10 secs happens even when my battery is fully charged pa.

i just hope they fix this in the next firmware.

i'm just curious. have you joined the P800 yahoogroup I posted?
There'll be more apps soon.

Posted by 619
the 10 sec thing happend to me yesterday while composing a msg here at esato... first time to happen that way.. it usually it happens when i open third party apps..

Guys, there's something I've noticed... SE users LOVE returning their phones. The Communicam bug is NOT a hardware defect... You will find it in ALL P800's...no matter how many times you return and replace your phone with your dealer.

It's a FW bug. Which means, that your current unit is ok. ALL P800s running the same FW will have the same bugs! I think we all just got spoiled with the T68m->T68i upgrade thing.

I'm very impressed with the low defect turnout of the P800. Sony really did a good job of lowering Ericsson's defect ration.

Other than a few reports of the mic not working AT ALL... I haven't heard of any major hardware defects in a P800.

FW on the other hand, that's SE's and Symbian's problem. We want the promised FW... I want it in cute, white, SE CDs, not some CD-R that I had to buy! I think SE should give the earlier P800 buyers free CD replacements with the Opera browser (that was promised), more languages, and the video recorder software.

Other than that... I'm happy with it. It's built a lot better than I expected. (And that's a lot, since I've owned nothing but Ericssons since the GH688 days...no I never reached the GH388)

Oh, and I hope they release a silver/gray case for it like what they did with the T68i.

Posted by spoon
my 1st unit had the mic/speaker problem and it was a legit problem.
2nd unit: yeloow triangle appears a couple of times per day talaga.

now on my 3rd unit. acceptable now. i agree that all the problems I'm experiencing now are firmware-related.

Posted by antski
in my case, i was fortunate enough i guess to experience only 2 resets in my 2 weeks of using my unit. hopefully, it stays that way.

Posted by jepaz
I agree w/ jplacson. SESS should give the upgrade CD for FREE!

Posted by 619
i have my resets 3 times a day.... breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Posted by JAYV
jplacson, i totaly agree wt u, i suggest u post ths on the SESS PH thread, give them a piece of our mind. :) Ericsson user since GF788 - P800

Hello.

I've experienced the yellow triangle button twice (my phone is two weeks old) and the SE logo appearing on the viewfinder. Freaked me out first time it happened.

Anyway, I do hope they fix the bugs soon. Regardless though, I'm happy with the P800.

2. Verify that the settings are correct and press OK.

This will update the sync database and make it possible to sync with the new version.

Posted by spoon
it is basically the same... this is just more stable according to SE.

Posted by ferrarista44

Hi everybody, I got my P800 two sundays ago from Semicon SM Southmall. After four days I had to return it and have it replaced because after I did a master reset, the 10-second reset thing kept cropping up and I was not able to use the IR modem (it was detected but would not communicate even with a simple diagnostics). For several times, the unit would hang while I was changing the IR setting from on to off and back or changing from PC connect to modem and back.

Semicon SM was able to give me a replacement unit the day after I reported my problem.

The good thing about my new (replacement) unit is that I was able to setup and use its cable, IR, bluetooth for both synchronization and wireless modem with both my ASUS laptop and Intel desktop (with Windows XP) and since the time it was given to me, I only encountered the 10-second reset thing once (never happened again).

I have not done any master reset as of yet and dreads doing so (afraid that the 10-second reset would crop up again). I have not encountered any major problem that would make me have second thoughts about my getting a P800. In short, I am one very happy owner of a P800 and glad I delayed my first plan of getting an O2 XDA.

Right now, my P800 is setup to check my POP3 mail every 15 minutes thru myglobe and it alerts me for any kind of message I receive (SMS, MMS, and E-mail).

Let me also tell you that today (01/23/03) I observed that the GPRS connection of Globe became very stable. My P800 was connected the whole day. I could even see the globe icon with the blinking () on its side everytime it checks for my mail on the display with flip on.

The only question I have right now is: Is it really true that GPRS thru www.globe.com.ph is free (no matter how many kilobytes you send/receive) and that you only get charged if you use internet.globe.com.ph?
