Atlast apple is ready to launch its iphone in india on 22nd for 740USD 8gb and 890USD for 16gb via vodafone and airtel. The media here has hyped it as a god sent phone without knowing its drawbacks and restrictions. They even fooled that its replacement of our laptop and no need to carry your laptop, iphone will do everything for u. Seeing this hype nokia rushed its n96 today for 830USD. Very few will afford the iphone but the problem is we dont get to try it before buying. And after buying when we come to know that it cannot play mp3 as ringtones and no video recording and many basic stuff missing which can be even found no a 100USD cheap phone, it will blow out their mind.

If i believe my friend working for vodafone Over 200,000 iphones were booked within 2months before launch with booking amount of 250USD, but the price was not fix till the launch day. And on the launch day when vodafone informed all who booked the iphone that the price is more than 750USD more than 80% bookings were cancelled and there were no ques outside like we saw in other countries. On many indian forums we can see people boycotting apples iphone. Why should we pay more than three times the world pays.

@fanofmodi true man. Glad that i didnt wait for iPhone and bought the N81 on my bday. Are you from gujarat btw? Asking coz your nick looks like fan of modi?

So about 80% of those people who booked turned their brain on when they heared the final price.
They should've done it sooner and just ignored the iphone hype.

Although the N96 is not a massive leap forward i woulds still choose the Nokia over Apple. But now the Nokia has even more memory too.

The initial bookings were because of the low prices that were advertised at the time of launch.. At that price even I would have thought of getting one. And I hate the iPhone and the hype it has created.. The initial price $199 under contract was very attractive. When the final price was anounced, people usd common sense and decided not to purchase at all.. I do not see anything wrong there.. I will only get that phone for its UI..

@whiz well said. Btw many of my friends are waiting for the price to drop.

For the launch of the iPhone is Poland, actors were paid by Orange to queue outside shops to make it look like there was a big interest in the phone.

Lol actors were paid? OMFG height of the hype.

Ya m from gujarat and fan of modi because he defeated all the media and proved them wrong. By the way today i received sms from vodafone inviting to check out the iphone. So i just went and asked the dumb guys, does it have video reco. His answer was fcourse sir. It took him more than 5mins to check, and the answer was: other than video reco it has every feature. I laughed and left the desk.

Wow, I can't believe it. Someone in marketing at Orange should lose their job over that.
I was present at the world's first iPhone 3G launch in Auckland and the queues were genuine. The buzz around the store 2hrs before launch was electric and at midnight (launch time) reached fever pitch!
I didn't buy an iPhone, just went along to check out the phone, the hype and get some photos and video for Esato and came away impressed (with everything except VodafoneNZ's pricing that is).
Trying to recreate that excitement 6 weeks later is just dumb IMO, especially when Poles can get one from other parts of Europe quite easily.
I think Whizzkid's right about the Indian cancellations. The same happened here when VodafoneNZ drip fed info to potential customers and then sufferered a scathing backlash when the monthly plans were revealed. Revised plans have quietly appeared just recently

Well, according to the spokesman (found a more detailed quote), the role of the actors hired by Orange Poland was to give "advice" to regular customers and create a buzz around the iPhone. http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/W[....]uczne_kolejki_po_iPhone_y.html here are some pictures and a video of such a fake queue. It looks like even paid actors didn't want to line up for the iPhone too much.
