More apps.

Its not just more apps. Its apps that add more functionality to the phone. Like CorePlayer, it adds avi, divx, flv, mpeg1,2, ogg, etc. . . Playback support, or Joiku which allows your wi-fi symbian phone to be used as a wi-fi modem by other wi-fi enable devices, theres lots more those are just ones i could think of right now.

Like I said, more apps.

Wtf? More apps? More like more USEFULL apps that can actualy add features the device didnt have before. Unlike java, the only usefull java apps are MobilePDF and DocViewer that add support for pdf/document viewing. I dont think UIQ3 has more apps though, but its apps are certainly more usefull than java.

If you can't define the relation between the concepts of an "application" and a "useful application", then you've been skipping logics class a tad too much.

symbian is an operating system and its like the windows for pc. That means you got more functionality than a feature phone, and its more usefull.

You speak as if feature phones are OS-less.

What part of my statement confuses you into that?

Symbian phones are phones using any of the various Symbian Operating system interfaces. The enhanced multitasking capability and ability to run a host of third party apps qualify them to be called smartphones. More details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbian

As for the advantages.. it depends on the user. People used to Java phones might find Symbian phones less attractive..due to the lack of eye candy- (all most all phones support Java today -including the symbian ones - but their java implementation is buggy and slow from my experience). So to sum things up, Symbian is for those who would not care much about the looks of the interface (animated wallpapers, screen savers et all) - but even these functionality can be added with third party apps. In recent times though the java applications have grown in functionality and have inched closer to the levels offered by Symbian .. but still a long way to go IMHO.
