22 July 2008
Sony Ericsson today has announced the innovative W902 Walkman™ for those who want it all. The 8GB Memory Stick Micro™ (M2) lets you store more than 8,000* songs and switches seamlessly from music to media to experience crystal clear video capabilities.

London July 22 - No longer do you need to make a choice between music, media and imaging when picking your next phone. Compromise is now a thing of the past thanks to Sony Ericsson’s new W902 Walkman™, a phone that goes beyond music and gives users everything they need in one pocket-sized stylish device. Downsize your bag, free your pockets and leave your music player and camera at home - use the premium W902 phone to play your favourite tunes, snap those precious moments or watch crystal clear video on the bright, scratch-resistant 2.2” QVGA display.

“We all want more from our mobile phones than ever before.” said Ben Padley, Head of the Music Category at Sony Ericsson, “If you love music but don’t want to compromise on imaging and video, we have used our expertise as music phone specialists to give users a truly multimedia experience with this latest phone. The W902 is one of our most high-performing phones yet and perfect for those who want it all.”

The W902 delivers music as it was meant to be heard through Sony Ericsson’s revolutionary clear audio experience. With crystal clear sound quality and a dramatically richer bass, together with Sony Ericsson premium headphones, HPM-77 included in-box, your favourite tracks will sound better than ever. The W902 features the same superior sound quality as the W980, about to launch shortly, which was rated ”best audio experience” this month, in a trial conducted in Germany by TESTfactory**.

Indeed, its what a lot have been waiting for. The coloured versions look really nice.

I think it's funny how there isn't a single official picture where you can see the full connector stuck on the phone, they always have the model put his fingers in front of it so that you can't see exactly, how it's sticking out from the side, which I still believe is highly unpractical.
Apart from that I like the phone, so I now hope for a good price/feature/build quality ratio !

I think these beauties should have been released uptill now. They announced it today, wondering how long will it take to release. If they are going to release it in Oct or Nov thats very fast then but i don't think so.

See what they did with W980i specially. They announced it in Feb08 and release date was July08 but still no W980i and thats what SE is famous for. Very sad though...

Posted by ros-mari
yeah
I think they could have "raced" against Samsung Soul and N82 if they had been here before.Even n95
NOw, all people tired of waiting for w980, may decide to wait more for this w902.....or even the w502?...
Too long waiting, people find other choices sooner and they either buy another mobile or don't buy and keep waiting to see what's for Christmas...Do you understand what I mean? It is like, yes , now we have that model you have been looking forward to for 5 months, but hey! in one more months there is another one even better....come on!unfair

From clear audio experience do we mean there is a trick been done in the new ear phones supplied or the phone itself is going to produce that clear audio?

Posted by sassafras
seems I am in the minority here, I think this phone just oozes mediocrity from every single pore. the design is incredibly yesteryear (and not in a good way), certainly a big step back from the best Walkman designs.

Hmmm...
Just to mention I have read somewhere in a review of W980 (most probably GSMArena) that in regards to the W980 what the manufacure has done a clever thing that they supplied an excellent piece of earphone which is producing the clear audio experience and the phone has got nothing to do with it.

So it could be a case like a 2005 W800 with shure earphones...who knows?

Disappointing really! Fair enough, the fact that we knew about it before does come to play in my disappointment. The keypad destroys what would have been a beautiful and classic phone, I mean, the phone is beautiful from all angles but the keypad.

you have to be pretty observant to notice the new walkman startups right at the end

Posted by gola
Big ups to SE for including noise canceling technology in their headsets, i hope it will be standard

Posted by goldenface
Is it just my eyes or is the front of the phone curved?

Posted by ros-mari
well, then if this is coming....the w980 will have to get cheaper right?
hahahahahaha

Don't mean to rain on the parade, but the inevitable question is, how good is the video?

I doubt very much it will be VGA.

Posted by eternal_wind
Personally, I don't care about the video.

But I'm amazed to see this W902 for real, it looks like Eldar's Paranoidish preview is being forgotten

Nevertheless, I'm not planning to buy new phones until 2009 or 2010. But I WANT THAT HPM-88 NOW!!!

Posted by goldenface
I still think the design is quite good on this phone, there will always be a market for candy-bars handsets.

5.0MP AF and 8GB in less than 12mm is something to shout about I think.
