Headaches with email on w580

Hi all.

I have a small headache with email on my otherwise beloved w580i, the trouble is this:

I use my work IMAP for incoming mail and Gmail's smtp for sending (until I have time to implement smtp_auth at work). the trouble is, I have tried setting the incomming mail either to push (it works) or to check every 5 minutes (works too), but if I go into the subway and lose connectivity, then from that moment after I will not be able to receive or send email (error, server not found) until i restart the phone, even if I get out of the subway and conectivity is restored. I need to turn the phone off and turn it on again for it to be able to send and receive again.

any quicker way to solve this please?
