yeah, I'm using wifi, though I always find it strange when things like this insist on wifi... same with itunes on the iphone... except for podcasts of <10mb which you can get via 3g
...and I also rebooted between uninstall and reinstall
Posted by RyaN
Yeah i know it is a bit lame to insist on wi-fi... i guess it's a more reliable connection. I'm pleased iTunes can now be accessed via 3G though, good to be able to nab the odd song on the move if you're in desperate need of it!
As for the Intelliscreen problem... not sure what else to suggest. There is always the option of installing the 'naughty' version via the xsellize source (if you get me)

One thing that really been peeing me off about my iPhone, is pretty much 50% of the time when i toggle off SSH using SBSettings the spinning wheel type glyph over the icon hangs and doesnt move and the iPhone freezes requiring a hard reset. It's done this ever since the first version of SBSettings, and it's still doing it now. Very annoying. Does anyone else experience this?
Posted by NoKia
never experienced that, the only thing i find annoying is the fact that after any reboot SSH defaults to ON in ssbsettngs, i wish they would switch that the other way
Posted by RyaN
Oh i prefer that, it's essential for it to do that in my book, just incase any changes you've made forces it to reboot and then it hangs on the boot logo - SSH is vital to be able to undo the changes necessary to enable it to boot...otherwise it's a restore
Posted by ares
i uninstalled SSH...when i need to mess with the file system, i use iFunbox (via USB)
Posted by RyaN
ahh. SSH is just a bit more convenient IMO, but i guess it definitely has it's bad points being a massive battery drainer. Gonna check that out later though, thanks. Never did look at that iPhone PC suite either - must remember that also!
I'm always interested to look at other peoples iPhone theme setup, care to share your current one @ares and anyone else for that matter?!

Will post my home screen soon
But i will tell you i removed winterboard (again), removed quick gold also, although i love both...however, RAM is very precious to me...iīve been spoiled by the P1, and with the iphone i seem to be back to P990 days regarding multitasking...Apple needs to do seriously optimization on the Iphone OS ram management...128mb should be enough for very good performance in this area
Anyway, i digress...my corrent setup envolves intelliscreen, Swirly MMS, My SMS, Backgrounder, Dock (use it instead of quickgold, because its less heavy on resources), SBSsettings, plus all the Safari pluggins
Posted by RyaN
How much RAM do you reckon quickgold uses up? Would there be a noticable difference if i uninstalled it? I mean i use it every now and again, but i could probably live without it now tbh. Plus also i think it causes a compatibility issue with Cycorder

Here is a cool video about the iPhone
Enjoy

i think around 5mb...i did it after reading some stuff online...a guy that replaced it for Dock...
anyway, do the test...check free RAM with and without it with sbsSettings...it also slows down the phone a bit, although you increase speed in finding apps you want
if only apple would add something like it to the OS...would be the better solution...remember, the Palm Pre already has similar functionality, and Apple also has it on Leopard (quicksilver)
Hereīs my current homescreen
Posted by RyaN
WOW! You've got 10 pages of apps
I have however just removed my wallpaper.html from my setup, so no big clock and date and no weather widget, i've also uninstalled quickgold. Noticed a slight increase in RAM size. Sitting at 23mb, before it was about 15mb at best.
I noticed when first opening SBSettings that the available RAM says 50mb, then it drops to 23-25mb. Strange. I'm guessing that is just the RAM size when the phone is locked and after springboard boots it goes to 25mb and it's just taking a few seconds to refresh.
What else can I do to free up more RAM? and how much free RAM are you getting without Winterboard installed?
Posted by ares
winterboard...depends on what you use with it, i guess...if you have alot of stuff toggled, it will use more RAM...i guess its fine to use it for a "lite" theme, liveweather and dock reflections...if you start adding more and more stuff to it, it will become heavy
btw, hereīs 5 rows springboard lol
http://macthemes2.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16793344&p=1
p.s.: i donīt have all the pages full...need to do some organizing, and it will decrease 3 pages...at least...

Yeah i might just keep my html stuff out of Winterboard for a while to see how much difference it makes for me. I have live weather, clock etc installed too, so guess i shouldnt really need the html stuff - but it looks so pretty! lol
Saw that 5 row mod - far too much imo... 30 apps per page
I'm early awaiting for the release of 5 column SB on to Cydia as there are a couple of annoying things with 0.55 atm like when scrolling from right to left the icons flicker. It's just a bit buggy. Hope it'll be released soon.
Trying to work out this Cycorder problem i'm having - after a quick google it seems other people also have the same issue. The app launches fine, but as soon as i hit the record button it crashes to SB, and just has the 'REC' badge on the icon
Posted by ares
yes, i also used 5 column sb...but after a while you end up thinking its really not needed, and that the screen becomes too crowded...
5 icon dock is different, i think its really needed...i donīt use only because iīm using Dock, and the 5th icon does not go well with sunbursts

Something tells me life is a lot simpler and less stressful without jailbreaking
Posted by ares
You mean "boring" donīt you???
Posted by RyaN
Yeah definitely boring without jailbreak! Simpler and less stressful doesnt mean 'better'

Yeah! 100 pages wooo
Err.... you're jailbroken right @Cocquito? You can download a number SMS apps from Cydia that have landscape keyboards. Also, although i dont really recommend this app, Palringo messenger has a landscape keyboard
Posted by Coquito
Yeap, My iPhone is Jailbroken
I m using the biteSMS Aplicattion from Cydia .
You recomended it to another one here and i wanted to test it
Posted by bavlondon2
What do you type in before the number to get a delivery report?
Posted by Aware
*0#, then a space, then your msg......
Comes back as a proper sms too, not just a report(as on Nokias etc..)!
Posted by masseur
yep. I use that all the time for my kids when I want proof they got my message!
Posted by bavlondon2
Thanks. Whilst on messaging do you think Apple will make any changes to the way SMS's are stored? ie will we be able to delete individual messages instead of a string of messages from a person?
Posted by SloopJohnB
I think probably apple wonīt change that... Apple is just too much driven by design to do that. They wanna push that threaded messages thing forward and deleting individual messages doesnīt work well with that design. You can still do it with a cydia app though, Iīm not so sure which one.
Have anyone here tryed Qik? Itīs amazing. It turns your iphone into a sort of webcam and at the same time gives you a free online channel to stream the video LIVE (it also records everything you stream to the channel). My channel is www.qik.com/sloopjohnb . I have nothing there yet but Iīve got some ideas!
Posted by bavlondon2
Not sure if anyone saw the rumored specs of the new iphone but the only changes seem to be a higher res screen, new hardware and video recording not to mention the same 2mp camera. If it does turn out to be just that I may opt to switch to the Omnia HD. But I have to weigh up my options.
Posted by SloopJohnB
I wouldnīt trust rumors about the iphone... They were wrong about the iphone 3G saying it would deff have video-call, 32gb and so on. All wrong. They got the dimensions right because some case factory leaked them out, so the dimensions apparantly arenīt hard the get, I canīt say the same about specs though.
Posted by bavlondon2
Yeah good point. I would actually prefer to stay with the iphone but im just hoping they put a better cam. I have spent quite a bit on various apps which I do use alot not to mention I have my hotmail and work mail set up via MS exchange.
Edit.
After seeing the video of Idou in action I have to say if Apple do not bump up the camera amongst other things in their next phone I will seriously consider ditching mine.

No matter what...i wonīt consider another full touchscreen device WITHOUT multitouch...if it has a hardware keyboard, yes, maybe...but for full ts, multitouch is a complete MUST - typing is much faster, games are viable without hardware keys, etc...
Back to jaibreak, found a way to have changing backgrounds for weathericon without winterboard
Posted by whentheleveebreaks
I would agree with that, the only theing i would consider changing mine for is the Pre, and i probably wont do that.
Posted by SloopJohnB
I also think Pre is the only one that really stands against the iphone because in the end of day, people buy iPhones because fo their interface and Preīs interface is in theory superior to the iphone. However, Palm doesnīt have something like itunes, appleīs design or 20.000+apps, or even appleīs billions and billions of dollars in case apple needs to come up with something to compete with the Pre. (not to mention iphoneīs hackers)
Right now, the iphone still wins. Weīll have to see in a couple of months.
