i trust you mean 0.3mb upload?! lol

Thats nae to bad though mate tbh, 1mb down... thats good enough. But obviously nowhere near what they claim. As you say, test it when you get home, cos even though you have full bars, the network will be more congested in central London

Posted by Coquito
You are lucky, i only have EDGE here and GPRS at home.

Posted by RyaN
Yeah, GPRS speeds suck big time... EDGE is nae too bad to be honest though. Good enough... But i guess it does suck on iPhone when you're trying to load an image hungry webpage. Do you not have wi-fi at home?

Posted by Coquito
No, i dont have Wifi, was thinking of installing it.

The bad thing about GPRS and EDGE is not when i m surfing the internet but when i want to download something from Cydia or App Store that is big llike games and others.

My network provider is Orange and they are adv. and selling the iPhone 3G but they only have EDGE

@Bavlondon This is something you'd be interested in, a application lock for any application has just been released on Cydia. I havent tested it but a mate has and it simply password protects any app. Think lots of people will be interested in this!

You can get a password and not passcode for your iPhone, check out iPhone Config Utility. Still looking for a decent copy and paste, I read a review on Clippy and it came out bad. Should I install it? And I just fell in love with FCSB, Smoog Theme and Reflective Dock! I need a mod for more than 9 homepages.

As for my 3G speed, it's not bad in my area, except in high places.

Posted by RyaN
@Cocquito

LOL that is pretty dumb that they're selling the 3G when they dont provide a 3G service! Are they expecting to roll it out soon do you know?

You should definitely install wifi though when you can, it makes the experience much nicer

@Neo-Tech

Hmm i'm actually not so sure on clippy now ive just watched the vid on their site. The copy and paste in safari is a bit of a rigmarole to say the least! It seems to work ok copying and pasting from a text or notes etc though.

Yeah FCSB is such a good idea, although I think it looks nicer with the small icon sets. I got bored of pump and abeo pretty quick so i uninstalled FCSB for now.
I doubt whether it'd be possible have more than 9 pages on the springboard, especially with FCSB. It wouldn't be safe or healthy for the iPhone!

Heres my 3G speed

Posted by Coquito
I'm so envy.

I think Orange is planning to release 3G soon here , let's see ...

How comes your icons at the top are different? Is that part of the theme? Looks cool!

Posted by RyaN
@bav Which icons you talking about, the O2 logo and battery? They're not part of a theme, just custom items. Also the mail notification icon is part of Intelliscreen.

Posted by NoKia
i am soo jealous, i dont get speeds like that!

Posted by RyaN
I think it might've been a freak spike tbh I did another test and it was just bordering on 1mb down. I was shocked myself, my wifi test was only marginally more.

Just tested 3G speeds at work and it's 1239kbps down, 265 up.

Posted by NoKia
lol ..... but i feel cheated cus of all those adverts about 7.2mb speeds! even my speed at home was less, tho i do get a weaker signal

Posted by vegetaleb
In direct sunlight situations is the iphone better than k850?

Posted by RyaN
Haha yeah, complete balls that is tbh... As you say cant even get those speeds connecting via wi-fi, and i've got a 20MB connection at home

I have a question
Can I use an iPhone 1st gen charger with my iPhone 3G ?

Posted by RyaN
Yeah indeed you can @Cocquito.

Posted by Coquito
Thanks, is because i lost mine and was planning to buy one from a friend who lost his iPhone.

@vegetaleb: Yes, I have both and the iPhone screen is better in direct sunlight

Just installed RSS. Fantastic app. I will be using this all day every day to keep tabs on new and in particular footy news. Just one quesiton though. When one news piece has been read it shows up as no longer new but then how do I delete the actual news piece itself. Does it get deleted itself?

Thanks

Posted by RyaN
Er i dont think you can delete the news piece itself, probably the other option is to flag/save which stories you want to keep or look back at

Posted by whentheleveebreaks
i use the Pro RSS app which is excellent, nice UI, no one single crash in the 3 months ive used it.

So that would then mean that the list gets bigger and bigger and is always accumilating. Surley month old news will not still be visible will it?

Yeah I might get that one actually. What are the benefits over the free verson?

Posted by RyaN
@bav I think it may just get deleted itself tbh like every day or something. Like with google reader only new stories show up, and you actually have to click on 'old stories' to read older ones.

I've only ever used an actual RSS app on my iPhone once or twice. I use google reader a bit, and have RSS feeds in outlook 2007 @ home. Just wondering, what feed do you have for footy news? Any other good feeds people can recommend?

Posted by vegetaleb
Apart the Facebook and Weather apps, what are the apps that can be used with WAP protocol? Using the proxy.pac hack of course

Turns out I was being dumb haha. You just swipe across to delete like deleting a mail or video,. podcast ect....

Ryan for the footy feeds I get them from Sky Sports. Go to their website and you can get a feed for each league. I got one for the Premiership, Champions League, Spain, Italy and even 1 for Tennis too. Great for breaking footy news imo.

Ah yeah, course!! Swipe and then delete. Sometimes you forget how simple the iPhone is

Ah cool then, will have to check em out. Might just add more to my Intelliscreen RSS feed as i'll probably never remember to actually go in to the app! Only got BBC News, Gizmodo, Engadget and iPhone Dev Blog in there atm.

Posted by NoKia
does anyone use ilog? if you do, does the call log just keep getting bigger and bigger., does it ever delete old calls?
my 'recent calls' tab is getting into the 1000s and i was hoping the app would have some kind of management policy of deleting old calls?

Posted by NoKia
hey those of you have a few issues with clippy, with the new update, u can close the tabs so the stop blocking the text area and u can can stack clipborad with multiple copied lines

Posted by RyaN
Good, i'm pleased about that update to clippy because it bugs me. Dont want to uninstall it cos it may come in handy at some point, so i'm pleased i can get rid of that pop-up

Guess who joined the club eh eh

Anyone here tried UCWEB for iphone??? I installed after installing Iphone PC Suite on my PC

It works well, but its all in chinese...i desperately need some alternative browser for using on 3G, because i have limited data plan...and safari is a monster eating data...UCWEB should use much less data

Posted by NoKia
welcome to the club, never even heard of that browser

Posted by ares
UCWEB is available for s60, and for java phones - it works just like opera mini, and its almost as good as opera mini...thing is, for s60 and java, there are english versions...for iphone, there´s only a chinese version

also trying xgps...it alows offline gps navigation, and downloading maps directly to the iphone

Posted by RyaN
hmm never heard of that browser either. And iPhone PC suite what is this you speak of?! I want!

btw welcome to the club

Posted by NoKia
xgps is great, obviously its not as good as tomtom or any other commercial satnav, but its better at navigating than the standard app
but the maps are massive

For the last couple of days my 3g iphone refuses to connect to my home network, although my N95 and laptop have no issues, I have restored the iphone using itunes but no luck i even tried updating to the new firmware.
Any ideas?

Posted by Neo-Tech
So many posts in a couple of days, lol.

I use Newsstand, the best RSS reader for me! And iFooty for football news.
Meh, I'm going to check my Speedtest in a couple of minutes, I can't install anything new since no more Icon spaces!!! And when the hell is FCSB coming out for final.?

Posted by RyaN
Cool - will check out NewsStand. Is it App Store?

LOL...think it's about time you deleted some apps dude, surely you cant actually use every app on 9 pages?

And FCSB is taking a while to make it on to Cydia, Sakurina updated the thread on Macthemes a week ago and still no sign of it Probably putting final finishing touches to it

Posted by Coquito
9 pages

I want to know if there is a way that I can change the Proxy and DNS Address on my iPhone, an Application or something?

Posted by Neo-Tech
Yes you can Coquito. I think it only works with Wifi though, go in to Wifi settings, tap on the arrow on your network name and change whatever you need to!
@RyAn, Newsstand is awesome! And I cracked a free app yesterday for fun, but I didn't distribute it. I installed FCSB manually as I just couldn't be bothered waiting anymore, lol. And yes I need lots of apps, I like 'em all

Posted by vegetaleb
Can you take off icons from the main menu so you can benefit from the wallpaper? I mean transfer icons from main menu to second menu and have for exemple just 4 icons so it will not hide the wallpaper too much??

Posted by RyaN
@vegetaleb, You can do that indeed, however you'll need to be jailbroken to do that to be able to install blank apps or webclips. I have mine setup with four blank apps across the top for instance

@Neo-Tech, I'm absolutely loving the Newsstand app...amazing. Works so well and the interface is lovely! Only thing that is disappointing, is when you're in landscape mode you can only see the brief story and no option of opening up the whole story within the book, like you can do when in portrait mode. Other than that, definitely the nest RSS app i've used and imported my OPML file perfectly

Posted by Neo-Tech
No problem man! Anyways, I've switched themes again, to the iHour one until I restore, lol.

Posted by RyaN
Yeah i've switched back to An'n'Me from Round. Was looking at using Neco, (which is now the hottest and most controversial theme on Macthemes) but think i'll wait til theres more icons for it as the creator just released it without a lot of the stock icons due to disputes etc
