Well, looks like in the next few days the 2nd gen iPod Touch jailbreak will be released. Read the article posted on iPodTouchFans.com here
Posted by Miss UK
will that allow the themes then?
Posted by RyaN
indeed it will, along with a whole load of other stuff
Posted by amnesia
What folder app is that Ryan?
Posted by dicky
looks like "Categories"
Posted by amnesia
thought so, didn't know I could download custom icons for it though.
Posted by RyaN
Indeed, it is Categories
edit: Ah yeah, those folders are designed for the Gradiance v3 theme, you can download them separately from Cydia

Kewl! It wont void anything tho will it?
Posted by RyaN
Err... it will void warranty if you give it back to Apple jailbroken. But it's even easier to reverse the jailbreak than it is to do it soo...
There is no danger of 'bricking' an iPhone or iPod Touch whilst jailbreaking either so dont believe any horror stories you may hear

Just thought I'd share this cos it looks rude!

hey Ryan that looks cool, is the intelliscreen tab a pull down?
Posted by RyaN
You just swipe across by the clock and Intelliscreen minimizes. Tap on it and it maximizes

There is a 100% free way to unlock iPhone 3g, however it wont be released until 31st December. Have a butchers at http://blog.iphone-dev.org for more info, also there is a video of MuscleNerd that he did yesterday demoing the unlock to show that it works.
You must have the right baseband though, if you officially updated to 2.2 through itunes the baseband would've been upgraded and you won't be able to unlock using this method at this stage
Thank you for your answer.
Now i checked the page and it says i have to uptade to the new baseband to unlock the iPhone 3G and mine has the old baseband
Is there any other way that i can uptade my iPhone withow itunes?
Posted by Neo-Tech
@Coquito, no you can't. Also I have heard of people who restored to 2.2 original and then restored from backup which restored their old baseband. It won't be that bad Coquito, just install openSSH on your iPhone, backup anything you need to (google is your friend), and then restore.
Posted by bavlondon2
Anyone tried m•Box Mail yet? It's like the native mail app but for hotmail/windows live. Now at last I can go back to hotmail which I always preferred.
Posted by SloopJohnB
I use mbox mail too and it works just fine.

Thanks, I though it would be harder but it was very simple!!
Now my 16GB iPhone 3G is unlocked thanks to Dev-Team

hey Ryan which sbsettings theme are you using now?
Posted by RyaN
I was using one i complied with Tenuis icons, but i changed my theme so have gone back to using the 'Deep HUD' one which is one of the best IMO.

Microsoft have rolled out POP access to free hotmail accounts, so you can now setup hotmail on the iPhone using the native app using the 'Other' profile
Posted by NoKia
yeah Deep HUD is very good, i alternate btw that and jooo
Posted by RyaN
Jooo? LOL Got a screenie?
StormyBlack is also another good one
Posted by NoKia
got it from http://macthemes2.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16790861&p=1
Posted by RyaN
I like that! Only annoying thing for me would be the fact the window is transparent and makes it difficult to see the icons against the Springboard, or just the fact that you can clearly see the springboard through it.
Still rocking the Smoooooooog theme then!
I'm absolutely loving macthemes forum atm, totally addicted. Can pick some good little mods up in the screenshot thread
See the liveclock mod in Cydia yet? Clock icon on springboard turns in to a real clock. Also weather icon mod which displays the current weather on the weather icon, and it's also customisable
Posted by NoKia
yeah i love that forum, there is always something to nick
Smoog is still my favourite icon set so i am sticking with it, till i discover something else lol
havent seen those yet will go and check them out
Posted by RyaN
The weather icon mod is still very beta apparently, and making most peoples phones crash atm. So would hold off on that one for the mo.
I cant seem to stick to a certain icon set atm! I'm generally just trying to perfect a hybrid layout with different widgets etc. I have been using the An'n'Me theme which is lovely, just lacks a lot of icons unfortunately (like a lot of themes) and i've switched over to Gradience v3 for now... seems like a lot of icons available. I got bored of the Tenuis theme - but did keep it for a week or so!

Why do you keep posting this in different threads? It makes no sense. You seem to post in the regional forums, so perhaps if you're English isnt so good you could ask your question in there...

pop3 and hotmail is only available to hotmail plus users at 20 dollars a year
Posted by RyaN
Maybe not in your region, it's certainly now available free in the UK and some other countries

Why do that when you can just buy the mboxmail app for £5 which does all your hotmail/windows live mail in the same manner as the native app.
ANywya I like the look of those themes so im thinking to jailbreak it. Can someone explain to me the negatives of doing this. Any quirks? Side effects ect?
Oh and in a nutshell how do I jailbreak it.
Thanks

Ha ha I remember not so long ago you were slagging of iphone against the N95.
Ah they all come around.
Posted by amnesia
I dont really use hotmail on my iPhone, I was just mentioning the price to them because they thought it was free.
The only benefit is having it all in one email app I guess.
Posted by Neo-Tech
@bavlondon, There aren't many downsides to jailbreaking, one of the main downside is slow downs. Slow as in SMS taking 1 or 2 seconds longer to load and other numerous apps. But that's only if you theme with WinterBoard. Don't let this put you off as jailbreaking is still great! You can have torrents, notifications and much, much more! See modmyi.com for more information.
@amnesia, some countries are getting Hotmail POP access for free, however they said they are rolling it out in other countries for free too slowly. Like they did with the fix of the Firefox 3 issue.

I bought 'Snooker' today. Fantastic game and well worth the money.

anyone tried clippy? its a fantastic copy and paste solution across apps, i was suprised at how good it was
[ This Message was edited by: NoKia on 2009-01-25 19:39 ]
Posted by RyaN
Yeah i installed clippy, does exactly what it says on the tin i guess, although tbh it's annoying me more than anything cos everytime you click on the '123' the copy/paste buttons appear at the top of the keyboard and sometimes cover the text you're looking at. It does work well though.
Theres another one on Cydia, HClipboard (iirc) or something. Not sure what thats like, but theres a fair few 'instructions' for it in the details
Posted by RyaN
@Bavlondon This is something you'd be interested in, a application lock for any application has just been released on Cydia. I havent tested it but a mate has and it simply password protects any app. Think lots of people will be interested in this!
Posted by bavlondon2
That is interesting. I would like to lock videos and photos. Whats it called Ryan?
Posted by RyaN
It's called mAdvLock. I'm guessing you wouldnt be able to just lock videos, only the iPod.app itself, unless of course you split the iPod.app in to a Music.app and Videos.app
Posted by NoKia
saw hclipboard but it seems a bit over complicated for just a simple task of copying and pasting, i have already found clippy very usefull
whats kind of speeds are u guys getting on 3G? all that talk of 7Mbp never seems to happen for me
Posted by RyaN
Yeah definitely seems too over complicated. Couldn't be arsed after reading the first couple of lines of instructions.
Havent a clue what speeds I'm getting - is there any where we can test?
btw using a new SBSettings theme - Cool Brushed. Bloody nice, think i'll be sticking with it for a while
Posted by NoKia
lol! i know how u feel, i read the first few lines and just completely lost interest
i used the speedtest app from the appstore, ok i need to go check the sbsettings theme out, still love deep hud tho!
[ This Message was edited by: NoKia on 2009-01-26 15:50 ]
Posted by RyaN
Try it, i reckon you might just like Cool Brushed more. Looks slick.
So what speeds were you getting using that app? I'm gonna check it out and report back...
Posted by NoKia
i get 0.97 Mbps download, and 0.3Mbps download and thats in central london with full bars, i will see how fast it is when i get home
