cheers, does that mean i can install the fonts directly thru cydia? and not need to SSh?
Yep, exactly that. Although there isn't a direct preview immenently available as per normal circumstances. However within Cydia it links you to a forum page @ xsellize, and there are screenshots of each font.
One thing that strikes me about this is that for people that havent already backed up the original Helvetica fonts could come in to trouble.
And as for that 2nd link i gave you...you'll be amazed at what these programs do

nup. You can use QuickPwn to jailbreak. The only real need to use a Custom Firmware for an iPhone 3g (using Pwnage Tool) is if you want to preserve the baseband and stop the firmware automatically updating it - this is if you are wishing for a soft-unlock in the near future from the iPhone dev team. I'm personally always going to use my iPhone with O2 so it didnt matter to me
Cool, i shall use quickpwn then, im not leaving 02 s well so i'll do what you did.

lolololol ....i just added the second source, it all just got a little easier! amazing

haha NoKia... yes very much so! Simply amazing... a stunning couple of applications. They'll all sync with your itunes too when you get home
@whentheleveebreaks Yeah quickpwn is the way to go then. You wont lose any of your settings/texts or anything as it doesnt do a full restore. Make sure you backup beforehand anyway though
Posted by whentheleveebreaks
doing it reet now
Posted by RyaN
Cool lemme know how it goes!
Posted by whentheleveebreaks
Seems all to be fine right now, i guess if i dont like, i can just restore to the last backup in iTunes and it'll be removed
Posted by RyaN
Absolutely. It's as easy to get rid of as it is to do
Posted by RyaN
omg. Anyone played Fieldrunners yet? Stupidly addictive!!
Posted by NoKia
yeah its a very good game, one of my favourites but once u figure the the trick of beating the first level it gets a bit repetitive, i just realised there is an update which gives a second level which looks even tougher!
Posted by RyaN
Do you mean level as in a new map? Cos i just played beyond level 50 on the first map, and unlocked a new map
Posted by NoKia
yeah thats what i meant, when it first came out it only had one map

Flick Fishing is my favourite game at the moment, closely followed by Darts (much better if you the "original" mode for aiming and throwing). They're both in the Appstore, Darts was free when I picked it up, FF only 59p.
It's a funny thing, I'm not a gamer generally and never really bothered with games on any of my other phones, but the iPhone really is, well, funner..
If you ever catch a train in the UK, try MyRail Lite - it gives you live departure boards from every station in the country. Brilliant.
Posted by NoKia
been looking at flick fishing just never thought it would be a game i would like, i might try it
for train info i use Trains app, it has saved me a pointless rush to the station many a times!

@Nok... Oh right, well i've got version 1.1.1 so pleased i've got a new map to play... although i've only had one go! Excellent basis for the game to evolved now though, im sure there'll be more detailed updates for it soon
@Boinng... the iphone definitely has that fun factor about it, the accelormeter and the touch screen really make the games interesting and intuitive and sets it aside from anything else.
Ive only tried one fishing game and dont think it was the one you mention, if it's the one i'm thinking of it's a lot more detailed than the simple one i have.
Nice one for the heads up on that train app... will come in v.handy in the future!
btw fishing app on the train might get you some funny looks!

Best games imo:
Real Soccer 2009
- The controls are great for a touchphone (it draws a ´virtual´ joystick on your screen thats very responsive)
- Many different movements and stunts
- GREAT graphics. If you zoom in on replay u´ll see what i´m talking about. It doesnt look like a phone game.
- This game really looks that its from a real gaming platform rather than a phone because both of its graphics and controls.
Super Monkey Ball
- First anticipated iphone game
- Initially the controls were too sensitive bur after an update things got improved and the game became much funner.
- REALLY addictive
- GREAT graphics
- Cool music and cool characters (U really feel that this is a SEGA game)
Tris
- This game should be called ´Intuitive tetris´. I´ve never played much tetris before but after tris came out with its ´touch oriented´ controls I couldn´t get enough of the game.
Motion X Poker
- GREAT phisics
- addictive
- good graphics
Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D
- Really fun game
- Good controls
- Cool races
- Good graphics (but not great)
- My fav racing game for the iphone

FIELDRUNNERS!!!! BEST GAME EVER!!!!!

Trace,Enigmo and Touch Physics are great games

If so, might pop down to Regent Street a little later.

Is is possible to send all the contacts from an iPhone to another hadnset like a Vertu or Nokia via Bluetooth. I have 1000+ and im not sitting there all weekend to transfer them! I wanted a copy of all my contacts on both phones basically.
And has anyone used a MAC to isync there iphone and then transfer the contacts to another phone?
thanks
Posted by smilerthe cheshirecat
Hiya JiggyJaggy... Yes I have synced my iphone via itunes and then used isync with a Nokia E71i...
All fine once MacBook recognises the E71i via bluetooth...
I am almost certain you can not send via bluetooth straight from iphone to another phone...
Posted by JiggyJaggy
Thanks for the help Smile, I just tried it now and seems to be working that way. JJ

Now my phone is offically sorted, no more messing around with tweaks or anything, yay!
Posted by RyaN
Yeah... lets have a looky at some screen shots!
Posted by Sebby
A bit of a long shot, but does anyone know if an iPhone 3G with a protective film applied will still fit in the official 3G dock?
Posted by RyaN
From what i've read elsewhere on other forums no-one seems to have problem fitting the iphone in the dock with a shield on it
Posted by Sebby
Great, thanks.

well, after all the excitement of picking up some bargains, it eventually simmered down to just buying a charger and screen protector!!
I was gonna buy the Kensington car kit until my wife so rightly pointed out that our does not actually have an Aux port!!! Shame as the Kensington was one of the best bargains to be had!
But I would recommend the crystal film set - even though they are 'kin expensive for what they are. Not the most perfect of fits for the phone (if you align the earphone you'll be slightly out on the Home button and vice versa!!) but you eventually dont realise this slight design fault

on another note; to all those who have had the b4lls to update to 2.2 - how are you finding it? I keep reading so many faults associated since updating to 2.2 that I'm still holding back.
Below are just some of the faults a lot of people have had:
Disappearing Apps, both Apple and Thrid Party.
Loss of WiFi connectivity.
Loss of 3G and or Edge signal strength.
And worst of all…..
Inability to sync with iTunes.
Oh, and Google Maps in KM ONLY!!! No ta!
Posted by whentheleveebreaks
I've not experianced any of those problems snce upgrading to 2.2
Posted by RyaN
Nup me neither. Only thing that is still evident that annoyed me from 2.1 is the blooming Safari crashes which are still happening
2.2 is sweet apart from that... especially with the Ultimate Leopard theme
Posted by Sebby
I haven't had any problems with 2.2, but then I've only had my iPhone for a few days!
One thing I do notice is that 3G signal strength is very low - but I've not been able to compare this with another phone on the same network in the same location as of yet.
Posted by Neo-Tech
Well my findings are things are much smoother and it doesn't lag as much apart from in Cydia. 3G signal is good but it depends where you live, I live quite high up so that's why I get good signal.
AppStore is great as well now, it doesn't take forever to load and has some new features built in. Battery life has been improved, only had one Safari crashes and syncing is also a bit faster now. And I haven't had missing apps yet. Finally I am enjoying it, loving the Emoji icons.

Are there any profile manager apps, or any that will make adjusting the sound settings easier, e.g. for at night?

hey Ryan, where did you find your city postcode for the weather config file in that iwbrss thingie?
Posted by RyaN
Go here and type in your city/town whatever and it'll bring up a selection in the drop down box. Then copy the code that appears below, mine is: EUR|UK|UK240|Gatwick and paste this over the one in the configureme.js file
I scrapped that widget after a while, was irritating. You might like this....
This isn't my screenshot but I used to use this, and have it if you want me to upload it. Takes a bit of tinkering around with to move it around if you dont want it at the bottom but you can customize the clock face, borders etc... i think it looks sweet

Guys may I ask for a quick favour please?
If anyone on here has an Officially Unlocked iPhone from Italy, could they please check their Model number on the phone.
It'll be under: Settings - General - About - Model.
The reason I ask is that after doing some research before updating my phone it transpires that some handsets are actually from the USA and have actually been unoffically unlocked.
Mine being one of them - even though it came direct from Sata SRl in Italy!
My model number is MB048LL - which is an AT&T number

Not seen anything like that since updating - in general connectivity is better if anything, and so is battery life. Email fetching is more reliable too. Basically no downsides at all except, now that you mention it, Googlemaps does appear to be KM only, which is a bit annoying, but not the end of the world (for me).
Mine's a 100% legit, standard, un-jailbroken, O2 UK phone though.

Scouser, if it's offically unlocked, it'll stay unlocked forever now matter what. Because it's hardcoded into the phone's baseband.

Apparently this 2.2 update overwrites the baseband. And that's where the problem lies.
Posted by RyaN
Your other option would be to update to a Custom Firmware (which will also jailbreak, which has NOT had the baseband updated in it. This can be produced on a Mac using Pwnage Tool.

As far as I was aware though, there still is no way to "unnofficially" unlock these phones (aside from the piggybacking SIM methods) - they either come out of the factory unlocked, or they don't. So if yours is unlocked it must have come out of the factory that way, and that should surely be recognised and respected by the official update process?
If you're sure that your handset is not an "officially" unlocked phone, then how did whoever you got it from unlock it, and can it be done again if the upgrade locks it? If it can't then send it back, since the phone isn't "as advertised" in any case.
Worst case scenario, if the update locks it and you can't get any joy from the seller, you'll just have to invest in a "turbo SIM" or similar, as that remains the only way to "unlock" an iPhone 3G for any price.

@boinng....
there is an unofficial way in asia. they desolder the baseband chip and reprogram it and then resolder it back on. this unlocks the handset but once you update and it writes the baseband it is relocked again.
costs about $100 to get it done.
Posted by RyaN
From my understanding, there are officially factory unlocked iPhone which are sold by Apple Stores, and also officially unlocked ones that carriers sell in specific countries where they are not allowed to impose a SIM lock on the phone (ie Italy). The carriers are granted permission to have these unlocked, and when for instance a firmware upgrade is performed, it communicates with Apple servers that that particular IMEI has been granted unlocking privileges and it'll unlock it/not re-lock it or whatever when it is activated... But... i am not sure whether it will affect it if it recognises the country your itunes is registered to, OR the fact that the model was originally an AT&T model which was sold in Italy.
Best thing to do if you want to upgrade is use a custom firmware like i said, with the option checked NOT to update the baseband.
Scouser... did you have to activate your iPhone in itunes when you first received it, or was it already activated?
