does the front cover overlap over the edges of the chrome trimming?

Yup. All the chrome bits on the front are covered.

Don't mind this so much as the black n blue looks quite good

Add me to the Esato owners list of iPhone 3G! I have a cool Griffin Elan Form case, does me very well, however the screen protector is pants.

I am jailbroken using 2.1 and the iGlassSol theme!

Posted by RyaN
Welcome!

Ive toyed with the idea of getting that very Griffin case before, and you're right the weird plastic screen protector is pants. Nice case though although i thought it added a little too much bulk

You're on a very small list of jb users here in this thread, so it's welcoming to see someone else posting here that is! The iGlassSol theme is very nice indeed, the icons are very well done.

Looking forward to the new firmware which should be here on the moro...shouldnt be long after that when we see its been jailbroken Actually, i say im looking forward to it but it's gonna mean having to reinstall everything back again just the way i want it...

Posted by zootzoot
another problem with my iphone.. the vibrate motor stopped working...
its going back again....

arhhhhhh

Anyone found a Monopoly game for the iPhone yet?

Need to kill some time

Posted by smilerthe cheshirecat
Apple have just released iPhone 2.2

Posted by masseur
I can't do the update until tonight as my office pc spits the dummy when I plug the iphone in. it says that it can see an iphone connected but cannot identify it!?

anyway, any news of the changes (besides the usual "bug fixes!")

Posted by NoKia
Ryan

here is a copy of my current one http://www.yousendit.com/download/TTZuaXRHRStlcEpFQlE9PQ

i have that source in cydia but i still cant find the rss thing, its really strange, could you send it to me please

Posted by RyaN
Cheers mate

Here's the link for the iwbrss widget http://www.yousendit.com/download/TTZuaXRFNkd6NE0wTVE9PQ

Obviously just whack it with the rest of your themes and apply in winterboard.

Not sure how relevant this is to some people, and i dont really know the different between these turbo sims or the ones you have to cut out, but this warning was posting on the iPhone Dev blog concerning upgrading to 2.2

Source

The use of SIM-Proxies (small circuit boards/chips that sit underneath the SIM card) to provide GSM/UMTS service on your locked iPhone 3G is a method that we have always advised against. Early reports suggest that the 2.2 update disables the functionality of these devices. The techniques used were always unreliable and we are surprised that they have lasted this long.

Posted by scouser_75
I'll just back-up what Ryan has just said regarding turbo sims and upgrading to 2.1 firmware! Please be careful.

I've just read a few posts elsewhere which have stated that there turbo-sim'd phones are no longer getting any reception after upgrading to 2.2

But, if memory serves me right, there is a particular way you have to upgrade with a turbo sim. Alas no one has yet mentioned how this is done!!

Posted by masseur
I was wondering what would happen if you upgraded while the turbo sim was in there, whether that might prevent the disable occuring...

Posted by RyaN
Yeah the best thing to do is just wait, at least until other people have upgraded and have got their turbo sims working fine. I'm personally not sure how you go about upgrading when using a turbo sim but i also just read a post elsewhere about using the SIM it came with whilst upgrading..at least that was for fw 2.1...

I'm in no hurry for this fw anyway, wont be updating til quickpwn is updated

Slightly off topic but apparently there's no updated street view on google maps with 1st gen iPod touch

cheers Ryan

Yeah there's nothing really major for me in there either... i rarely listen to podcasts, or use google maps... but this addition is pretty cute!

Japanese emoji icons (Japanese emoticons) are now supported. The exact number of emoticons is believed to be 461. These can be included in email. Not confirmed about use of these in notes, etc.

Posted by NoKia
lol yeah cute, but i will probably never use it

on slightly different note, TV plus is great little app

Posted by RyaN
i dunno might be quite fun to use them in emails...

So what does TV plus do? Is it an app store app?

btw that theme you uploaded doesnt have the html clock or any icons. But i am assuming that you are applying the icons separately in winterboard anyway. Would just like that html clock tbh

Posted by NoKia
opps, i had modified it soo much, i will upload the one with clocks in a min

TV plus lets you remote record sky+ programs etc.. very handy if you have something to record but cant make it on time, yeah its in the app store for £2.99 or other places for less

Hmmmmm! Just been reading some posts else where regarding the 2.2 update - and it seems it's safest (regardless of whether you have a "legit" iPhone or not) to wait a tad while.

It seems a lot of people are having some weird things happen to their phones after they've upgraded.

One of the more common, and worrying, problem is that some handsets are being locked up by password protection, which the user never had prior to the upgrade. And no codes seem to unlock the handset - 0000, 9999, last 4 digits of phone number etc etc etc!

Best to wait and hope that Apple sort this problem out before going ahead with any upgrades.

I just wish apple made fw 2.x as stable as 1.x was. Its just buggy now and apparently its not getting better. Apple should release a bug free 2.x with basic features the 1.x should ΄ve had from the first place (copy and paste, horizontal keyboard everywhere, improved phone and messages apps, manual background tasks, etc). They just keep releasing stuff thats good for mkt but doesnt really improve the daily use of the device.

Posted by masseur
so has anyone here done the update?

following these comments I have resisted the temptation and I'm happy to play the wait and see game

Posted by smilerthe cheshirecat
I have updated.. on the iphone 3g.. but I use o2... seems very stable...

Had a little play with the google maps.... had a peep in Times Square using the Street view...

Just waiting for google to send there tanks through the Cheshire plains

http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ are suggesting people wait if they have jail broken... or those people waiting for a soft unlock "in the near future" not to upgrade to 2.2

Posted by RyaN
Jailbreak has been 'sort of' release for the iPhone 2g and 3g. Only for Mac users atm using Pwnage Tool. Need to go here and follow the guidelines. Have to already have Pwnage Tool installed.

I'm just gonna test this out myself now, will report back

Posted by RyaN
I think i'm gonna hold off on the jailbreak until the dev team have released something official.

Bit more info on how to do it here

Posted by SloopJohnB
Pwnage 2.2 and quickpwn 2.2 are here!!
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

Just waiting for the new mobile installation file for 2.2! (don΄t wanna lose my free apps )

go get it!

Was just about to post that lol

Does the 2.1 one not work, have you tried it?

Posted by masseur
itunes just trashed my library although it did try to recover it.

I now have no apps, no podcasts and no music purchases.
clicking store -> check for available downloads just gives a message "all purchases have been downloaded for this account"!

I didn't notice while synching and it also therefore wiped all apps, purchased music etc from my iphone too!

Posted by SloopJohnB
Have you tryed reinstalling itunes and then syncing again?

Posted by nicv27
Hi,
Just updated to 2.2 and now everytime i try to delete an email it "tells me "It`s unable to move mail to trash can"
Anybody else had this?
thanks
Ps it`s not jailbroken

Posted by scouser_75
Nick, I found this elsewhere. Give it a try

Settings --> Mail --> Picked the problem email account --> Advanced --> Deleted Mailbox --> Switched the selected folder from the Trash folder On The iPhone to the Trash folder On The Server.

Hope it helps. Good luck.

Thanks a lot works fine now

Hmmm! Think I mght wait a while longer before updating to 2.2! There seem to be too many things suddenly going wrong with phones that used to be rock-solid on the 2.1 firmware!

Posted by NoKia
any news on whether the old mobileinstallation file works with 2.2?

yep works fine for me

Hi,

Any speed improvement guys? If not then it's not really worth upgrading, Street View doesn't even work in the UK.

Posted by RyaN
Not really used it long enough to notice too much difference. Hopefully the safari crashes will have been sorted. It seems a bit quicker but thats prob due to it being a fresh install

Masseur.. if you can remember what your apps are.. they can be "purchased again" and this will not cost you a penny.... I have done that several times... maybe or maybe not on different devices ...

As for the music purchased... Happened to me before the times of the iPhone and I sent and email to customers services of itunes and explained the "crash" and although they adviced me that I should back up the music to disc etc... they did allow me to redownload them again.... but that was via a request...

Posted by masseur
thanks smiler... unfortunately I have way too many apps and music videos to do that individually, but having tried to restore a backup (which seems to have been done after the failure) I have now sent an email to the itunes team to sort out.

in the meantime I have now recreated my playlist and re-added all my podcasts (arrrggghh!)

on the other hand, 2.2 is working well so far and I do like the ability to download podcasts over the air

Posted by NoKia
arrghhh!!!!!!
i downloaded appbackup and was set to backup my apps before restoring and for some silly reason i just plugged it in and clicked restore before backing up my apps!! argggh!!!

Posted by RyaN
haha lol, unfortunate matey. I couldn't get it to work... dont think i was doing it properly. I only 'upgraded' and didnt fully restore, and when i rejailbroke and tried to hit restore in aptbackup it said it can only be done when the iphone has been restored. pff. Right clicked on restore from backup in itunes, and still didnt work.

Still trying to sort it all out bit by bit as i type... lol Almost there..

EDIT: Btw, why are you restoring anyway? Cos you were going to use aptbackup? Or are you restoring to custom firmware without the baseband update?

Posted by NoKia
ok that makes me feel a litttle better
so maybe it wouldnt have worked at all

Posted by RyaN
It's pretty much pointless any way really, it doesnt backup any settings from cydia apps, just literally names and will download them again. Could just write a list instead! I suppose the only thing is installing apps that you need to respring after installing them, can take forever to get there! Categories is my next task - takes fooking ages to get sorted!
