K810i slow to response / sluggish

Hi All,

I'm Frubin's boyfriend who's allowed me to use her account on Esato to post up a problem i'm having with my K810i

It has been sluggish and very slow responding to key presses. When trying to navigate through the menu and answer calls and can take time to respond and sometimes miss calls. I have a Scandisk 2Gb MS which worked fine before this happened and i have tried formatted it through the phone as i thought that may have been causing the problem. Even with the card now formatted (with no data) and also when removed, it still does the same thing. I find when i restart the phone with the memory card out does the phone response is improved.

Could there be a fault with my memory card or the mobile software?

As my mobile is still under warranty, do you think it would need to go in for servicing?

Can you help?

Thanks in advance

The phone works fine without the mem stick, so it seems to be ok.
Can't you try the mem stick in another phone, or another card in your phone ?
The card could be faulty, formatting doesn't always help then.

It seems strange as sometimes my K810i works ok even with the memory card so the problem seems intermittent. My girl-friend has the same phone (with the same firmware) but has a 1GB Scandisk MS in her phone and her's works perfectly.

If the p[hone does that without the memory card inserted, you can try flashing the phone's software or master reseting the phone...

p.s. there was a friend of mine that has a problem like this, and the problem was caused of the full built in phone memory... (not the M2)...

Posted by Frubin
What do you mean by full built in phone memory?

My next step is to do a master reset on the phone, but i need to back up all my contacts which is currently stored in the phone's memory, not on my simcard.

Is there any sort of PC program i can use to do that?

I wouldn't know how to go about "re-flashing" phones and i wouldn't want to risk messing it up any further then it is. So will bring it to the SE repair center for the engineers to look at it and do the firmware upgrade re-flashing if it is still the same after the master reset.

Use My Phone Explorer to backup files, contacts and messages to PC:

@frubin:

regarding your backing up the directory issue, follow this on your K810i..

Menu > Contacts > Options > Advanced > Copy to SIM > Copy All..

its pretty basic and simple.. hope this helps.. and welcome to Esato

Ok, thanks for that.

I give that MyphoneExplorer 1.6.7 go to back up my contacts on the phone. I'll then a a master reset and do another post let you know if anything improves.

Hello,

Just a quick update on my phone. I downloaded the MyphoneExplorer and tried to install it on my PC but it had problems working, but with a little bit of help from my girl-friend we was able to make it work in a cybercafe and managed to backup my phone.

So i really didn't have time to do a master reset on it as it was still playing up and we both decided that it needs to be brought to the Sony Ericsson Service Center (R's Electrics) in Tottenham, London which has now moved to a new location in Chingford!

Their new address is:
Custom Ice (R's Electrics Ltd)
Unit 6 Chingford Industrial Centre,
Hall Lane,
Chingford,
London E4 8DJ.
Tel: 020 8529 3939
Fax: 020 8529 7779
Email: sales@customice.org.uk
Map:
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ne[....]srf&dn=734&ax=536470&ay=192380

The engineer had a look at my phone and said he would do a firmware update which will take a day, so my phone will be ready to collect today.

I just hope this will able to fix the problem i been expriencing with my phone. I will post up another update to let you know what firmware i have and if it has!

John

Frubin: I've also sent an e-mail to Sony Ericsson asking for a list of approved SE service/repair centers in London/UK as it seems the one in
Phone Centre (Flash Point) 855 Forest Road, Walthamstow London E17 4AT doesn't seem to exsist either!

I'll post them up on this thread as when a response from SE.

Regards,

Yvonne

Ok. I got my phone back from the repair centre, but it's not good news

The engineer said he was not able to re-flash/update my phone firmware as it would not accept it. He quoted that "my phone may have experienced a 'critial corruption' and it may be something to do with the PCB."

So it looks like it my K810 has to be sent back to Sony Ericsson for them to have a look at it.

Has anyone heard of a K810i having this kind of problem or experienced anything similar as it even baffled my girl-friend!

Crirical curruption... pcb... they always get out of trouble like that...

Didn't you connect your phone to XS++ and see if you can flash it with this tutorial:

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=156090

Posted by aldrinus
@frubin:

pcb..... that's hardware, mate and it actually refers to the that board that holds all of those tiny parts of the phone

if re-flashing won't work, consider the phone dead... you're one lucky man if that phone still has warranty for a replacement

@ strizlow800: So this problem does exist? I rather try not to flash-it (even with the tutorial) as the phone is still under warranty with Sony Ericsson so it would be better to send it to them to deal with it.

@ aldrinus: Oh, so how could this these parts be affected? The phone has been looked after and couldn't have done anything to it to create this problem? My phone still works, ok but still has the the symptoms i have already mentioned on my first post.

chances are the flux capacitors will need flushing, but sadly it's a job for SE...

Posted by Frubin
@ fatreg: Humm... it sounds like something from the film "Back To The Future" lol

A flux capacitor is when Doc Emmet Brown fell and struck his head on the rim of a toilet bowl and fell unconscious, when he regained conscious, he saw the words 'Flush Capacity' on the underside of his cistern.

http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Flux_Capacitor

I will try master reset the phone to see if that improves anything.

Humm, ok they have not mention about R'Electrics Ltd which used to be in Tottenham, but now re-loacted to Chingford, so i have replied back to them:

Dear Sony Ericsson,

Thank-you for reply.

There was also an approved Sony Ericsson Service Centre which i used:
R's Electrics Ltd,
815 High Road,
Tottenham,
London N17 8ER

They have now re-located to:
Custom Ice (R's Electrics Ltd),
Unit 6 Chingford Industrial Centre,
Hall Lane,
Chingford,
London E4 8DJ.

Could you tell me if this Service centre is still approved to carry out Sony Ericsson serivces/repairs? My phone is K810i not a W200i.

Regards,

Yvonne

Travelling all the way to Eltham or Chingford for our phone's to be checked would be a bit of a distance for me and my boy-friend! =|

Hahhahahaahhaha

@ fatreg: TRS?

Neither of us has yet, so i guess the only other way to his phone services is going through Orange (but he has no Orange Care but i have!) or may be through Carphonewarehouse?

Dear Yvonne,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson call centre regarding the Sony Ericsson K810i.

Sadly the service location that you stated is no longer a recognised location for Sony Ericsson.

There we would suggest that you contact one of our service centers to arrange to get the mobile checked over for any possible faults that may be present on your handset. Please find below the postal address for the main Sony Ericsson approved service location. We suggest you send your Sony Ericsson product via recorded delivery, for your peace of mind when it is in the post. We ask that you include your address, a fault description, and a copy of your proof of purchase with the IMEI number on it. We suggest that you retain the original proof of purchase, and that you note the IMEI number prior to sending.

Please note that if the damage is not covered by the Sony Ericsson Limited Warranty, there is a fee to have your product returned or replaced. Please view the warranty in your user guide or at http://www.sonyericsson.com/support for more information regarding this.

Please do not send your SIM card, and if the problems are unrelated to the battery, memory card, charger, or back cover, do not send these parts either. It may be the case that user data is lost during a repair, therefore we recommend backing up any data to your SIM card, memory card, or PC before sending.

Oh, so it looks like Eltham is the only service centre in London now!
