Nokia N95 8GB SIM-free better than branded?

Hi guys,

I'm going to buy the Nokia N95 8GB phone, but thus far I've only ever bought branded phones locked to certain networks. I'm not interested in contract so I'm considering the SIM-free option, buying it direct from Nokia. I have no experience of SIM-free phones. Can anyone please inform me of pro cons etc.
