Via Engadget:
Without much ado, the HTC Raphael, now called the T-Mobile MDA Vario IV in Europe, will hit streets sometime in Q2 2008. As for specs, we're looking at 158 grams, 300 minutes of talk time, 480x640 pixel screen, tri-band GSM, a 528MHz processor, 256MB on-board RAM, Bluetoorh, WiFi, GPS, FM radio, and a 3.2MP camera. Don't expect a stateside release -- at least in this incarnation -- given the tri-band action, so we'll continue to hold out for the Sprint version.

In my opinion the HTC version should look better than the T-mobile version since it will look like the diamond.
Anyway 256MB Ram just like the X1, that's awesome.

More specs.

Very, very nice, the keys look nice and big

Indeed, thats a really nice piece of hardware right there!
THe size will be phenomenal, since its about the size of my touch. And thats just tiny....
Really cant decide whether I should go for that beauty or sex1...?

It looks awesome and has a excellent spec sheet as well! The Xperia needs to get its panels sorted and fast like the TouchFlo3D. This is bound to be a hit, the SE panels are not so hot while HTC offers much more eye candy and the basics are mainly finger based.

I thought this was an enhanced Diamond Touch with a keyboard. It doesn't mention GPS or a flash in the specs on the site linked in the original post!

Hi all,

Well it does indeed look very good and i think the keyboard definitely looks better than the X1's, plus this will be out months before the X1 and most probably be cheaper to.

Which raises the question as there will most probably be Network versions from not just T-Mobile, O2, Orange and Voda in the UK and Europe just who will stock the X1 other than sim free. As in the US they have Network branded HTC products so again who will stock it other then Sim Free and i do see that as being a major hurdle for the X1 to overcome. Over an already established HTC product that comes with Network subsidies.

As we know Business tend to get it's phones with contracts as do the majority of end users so just who will spend their money on a sim free expensive X1 instead? of this product.

Users who owned phones with big screens (E90, iPhone,..) will have a hard time adjusting to this. Resolution is nice though but the size certainly isnt.

I believe that 3.0" is a minimum these days.. but I would say I am not going under 3,5".

Other then that, it seems like a nice phone.

Why would it come with Opera when Windows Mobile already has a native browser? I'm not saying that PIE is better than Opera but just asking why they would add Opera.

This has really become
funny for me. Here's an
X1 in different styling and
from the rumoured specs
the same as the X1. I
would still buy the X1,
only if it comes out in
september and not
december. I'm just not
feeling this design of
Raphael.

The X1 will sell fewer numbers at higher prices as a "prestige" premium product, to people with money to spend on nice showy gadgets. It has a little extra wow factor, but will come at a price.

The Raphael is the big unit shifter - I'll probably have one, as will anyone else who's simply looking for the best new WinMo device at the best price. It'll be offered relatively cheaply by all the major networks in various branded forms (as the Kaiser it replaces was), and sell by the pallet load as a "fleet" phone for big businesses. Both HTC and all the operator-branded variants are established names now, so it'll be interesting to see whether the Sony Ericsson brand sways any of those buyers. I suspect it won't, unless SE really squeeze those margins and knock out the X1 as a cut-price taster.

The Raphael also has TV out

Now it's confirmed, Raphael is officially at the top of my list. Unless SE comes up with a worthy UIQ3 device, which seems less likely as time passes by.
I'm not too keen on WM but SE doesn't leave any other options.

I hate what T-Mobile has done to the back of Raphael and Diamond. The least the could have done is have the back the same colour as the front!

Why does Raphael say 3.1MP and Diamond 3.2MP? Is there an actual difference?

Between the x1 and htc Raphael its still the x1 for me. The 3.5mm jack and trackpad is too important to me. I also expect the x1 keyboard to be better, the raphael one looks like the tytn one and those keys are big but difficult to press in. But maybe I'm used to touchscreen now. The metal x1 keys would do better I expect, add the metal construction and bigger screen and better looks.

That said I wouldnt buy either since both phones will require you get the stylus out at some point or struggle pressing something with your finger and when you're in a rush its just not acceptable.

A friend of mine says that the top row of X1 keys are hard to press and it is difficult to tell whether you have pressed a key. That is his opinion though, I have no idea.
