Here is a tip for T-Mobile users... there is no reason to get the extra SMS bucket if you have GPRS... simply change your SMS send preference to use GPRS instead if GSM and that way you get 300 free SMS messages (they don't even get deducted from your data amount it is considered a seperate pool). This works for any phone that supports GPRS and GPRS SMS.

Ps. One negative side effect is of course that you can only send SMS messages if you have GPRS coverage... but where I live it is excellent so I have no problems. On the plus side your messages will be sent in a blink of an eye... about 2-3 times faster than with GSM.

Is tis true? If it is, do you think it would be wise of me to activate GPRS on order for this to work? Also, does it mean that I get 300 absolutely free SMS or do I have to pay GPRS fees?

Thanks in advance,
Ellie

I just tried to send a txt via gprs and it didnt work, do i have to do something specific. Dont matter much cos i get free txt with o2

Posted by jellyellie
@geo yeah, if you don't have GPRS activated you need to phone up O2 and get it activated for free. you will also need to have GPRS coverage (you'll know when you have coverage because that little green irregular triangle appears above your coverage bar).

I have got it activated, browsing wap via gprs atm lol

Wonder why its not working for me, is it because of o2 or my phone/settings

Posted by jellyellie
boyi are you sure there are no costs involved whatsoever?

@ Geo2k

Sounds like you got the o2 online payg £10 a month minimum topup simcard for 300tx and 300 wap mins yes?

I've got that sim card and have got GPRS successfully working on there but sending via SMS from my T68i always results in "send failed". The only time you can tell that a GPRS connection for something is working is if you see the progress bar "stutter" on the Loading/sending dialog box. If the progress bar doesn't stutter and it just wraps around smoothly and pretty fast then it means it won't work.

Don't you get any free texts included in your monthly contract Jelly?

Posted by jellyellie
yeah, but only 50 & that's not enough... my name's ellie!

I know it's Ellie but I normally address people on these forums by their usernames.

O2 Now do 500 texts a month

Posted by 2tangy
The 500 free texts from o2 online are only with their monthly contracts. The online PAYG simcard still only has 300 texts.

I have tmobile and a t300 and I cant find where to change this setting.

also does anybody know the wap settings for tmobile in the philadelphia market?

I want to play around with it but I can edit the existing tzones wap profile to get any of the juicy tidbits required to have any fun

and last but not least can you just set your service center to another provider and get free sms that way or is that a thing of the past?
