Sure u get a faster conection but u have to pay for downloading pages. T-zones Wap calls are inc in my free time so no need to pay for downloading. So if GPRS means having to pay for downloading & the only advantage is speed I'ld rather use wap for free.
My question is are u paying for downloading just because your on a faster conection?
Plse someone correct me if I am wrong &/if there are more advantages to using GPRS?
Thanks
SB

t-mobile uk does not have a gprs service as such, it just runs certain things over gprs (eg photo messaging). there is no facility at the moment for normal data usage over gprs on t-mobile, so it's a good job you don't want it anyway.

Wap over GPRS is free on one of the networks here.

Itīs cheaper than wap, some places itīs even free! So, there you have it! Any more questions?

Not on my phone it isn't! Wap is free during my free time & GPRS is chared by the amount I download. 2p per kb I think.

And it's not even faster!!!!!!!!
I've timed 30kb downloads over GPRS/GSM they both take as long, try it yourself, obviously they have capped the data rate.
Can't complain while it's free, but I'll be fooked if I'm paying for it.
2p a Kb is a very,very sad joke.

i just phoned t-mobile and they said GPRS wasn't available but that can't be true...?

GPRS is faster in ideal conditions.
We tried GPRS on a GX-1 here at the call centre, with a cell site around 2 meters away, and it was quite literally like sh*t off a shovel.
However, we were told in o2 GPRS training not to sell GPRS on its speed as it is heavily variable. As far as I know, on o2 contract its 1p a page loaded which isn't half bad.
Maybe, one of these days, I'll get my t68i set up for GPRS..

Ellie!
GPRS should be available for everyone on T-mobile early next year.
But if you ring up T-Mobile tech support you may be able to blag your way onto the pilot scheme.
Give T-Mobile data support a call on 1960 from your handset & say u want GPRS for wap that should work.

I am on net and wap via GPRS. I pay aprox 20 euro for it and have 1GB download and upload limit. Also in this price is wap and some other features. When I pass this limit I pay 1euro/MB. So for me GPRS is faster and more comfortable to use as I have both.
BTW. GPRS is even faster as DIAL-UP, that I had.

GPRS is much like cable broadband internet. Its speed is dependent on how many people in your area are using it at the time.
GPRS has the ability to be faster than CSD, but, normally runs at about the same speed; but has the ability to drop down to 0.0 (rare).
Advantages of GPRS are that you're not billed per minute. So you could look at a page as long as you want, and it'll only cost you something like 0.3p to load the page.
Going on Oranges prices. 1mb of data transfer costs 3 pounds. But, saying that, 1mb of data transfer roughly is worth looking at 1200 pages of WAP, and it doesn't matter how long you spend looking at them either, as apposed to dial-up where it does.

Elrond we have only 1000MB... not 1GB
GPRS conection is a very good service - If you travel - it becomes almost perfect
Download speed is 5.6 kilobytes/s (CS2) - better than link dial up
I canīt be satisfied more!

Hi everybody, I have just registered, I was looking around the forum and googled a bit but didn't find any answer to these 2 question.
1- If you u have a satelite download connection can you map the download to the satellite and the ONLY the upload to the gprs thus have a fast unlimitied download and a 1000MB limited upload.
2- Can you connect a mobile PC (laptop, carputer) to your phone and access the wap throught your phone on your computer screen with an emulator(with only wap-gprs).
I have a R520.
Sorry if these questions where already answered

Question 2: Download Opera 7.51 web browser, which allows you to view WAP and WEB pages, or WinWAP 3.1 PRO - which is only for WAP...
Posted by voodoo
I know about opera I even developped a site on an apache server that can interpret wml as php. The question is, can I connect my PC through the cell phone to the wap.

How about question 1
- If you u have a satelite download connection can you map the download to the satellite and ONLY the upload to the gprs thus have a fast unlimitied download and a 1000MB limited upload

I checked the HSCSD it looks more like an internet connection similar to GPRS. It has nothing to do with the WAP gateway. So I believe it would be more expensive than WAP plus I don't think my line provider offers this service. So back to question 1 and 2.

Not at all... Dunno how is it with satellite connection... BTW: Welcome to Esato!
