Heard that firmware R7A become available (at least so far for T68i only), anybody know what's good or bad yet?

Posted by Dj Boyi
We all pray for optional sms tone alert :-l

Posted by LadFromWales85
What about adding functionality to the Green LED, such as double flash when you have missed calls etc, like the Maxon MN1 did, or showing missed/waiting icons on the idle screensaver

Posted by shithappens
hot damn!!! that wuz quick.....can anyone confirm...and i haf just flashed to r6a!!!

Posted by ppcrockar
SMS tone will probably never change. Just get over it...

Posted by gareb
And that's really bad if dont change the sms-signal

Posted by kengsim
Is there a site that lists the available firmwares and the changes or improvements for each?

R7A is still only available as testversion (for one European version and one US version)... I haven't noticed any bigger changes... and no... the sms signal is not changed...

Posted by ppcrockar
I don't know of many phones that allows changing the sms tone anyway, so it is not just SE...

For me the SMS tone is perfect. But sometimes I think it is a bit loud.

umm all nokias m8!

@ Eleventy7

Does all Nokia phones allow you to change the sms-tone to some other sound? AFIAK they don't... I could be wrong though, since I don't like Nokia phones and don't use them. (I've only tried them a few times, but I don't like them).

yeah nokias do. sendos dont- at least the s200 doesnt.

from nowhere.... it's not out offical yet... and not all servicepoints have access to it yet.... R6A012 is still the latest you get when updating at your local sercicepoint.

Posted by Street Boy
I have software version R2E006 I heard that this is the most stable software ver. So is there any advantages in upgrading?

Posted by WildNomad
Improvements over R2E? Many:
- with R5C or later you can use the MMS Home Studio from SonyEricsson to compose a MMS template from a PC
- you can add new words to the T9's dictionary (R2e had a bug and when the memory for user's words was full you couldn't add any new one)
- menus and T9 typing are slighty faster
- you can send MMS to any unsaved number in your call list
- better Bluetooth compatibility
- ..and much more, but I don't remember anymore right now

Regards...

Why do they use these version numbers with such a few changes? From R5D007 to R6A012 and now they will probably release R7A. With only a few changes R5E / R5F would make more sense?!

Regards, Roger

@WildNomad

Ok thanks, looks like a software upgrade might be in order. How comes u know all this.... do u work for SE?

Posted by shithappens
apparently this thread confirms the availability of r7a:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=83173

wonder when it'll be available in the SPs and wat are the improvements???

The wap on my T68i seems to be very poor compared to what it was like on my 3510. I can't even access Hotmail as it says body recieved is too large. Would upgrading the software improve this, as i only have version R2E?

Posted by Coramoor
How do you acces hotmail with your phone?
It's probably some settings you have made. coz I seriously doubt the 3510(being a higly unproffesional phone) is better at anything that has to do with wap...

But please do tell me how to acces hotmail with my phone..

Posted by Coramoor
What's so important about the sms signal.
Besides. look at the bright side. Since the tone is so ugly. no other phone maker will use it so everyone knows you have a kickass phone(Sony ericsson) and not some punkass piece of thrash(nokia) phone.
Let the mindless masses(nokia owners) keep changing their sms alert in a pathetic attempt to hide their mediocrity from succumbing to the herd mentality of todays general weak minded population.
But since only SE phones has that annoying(yet unique) sound when receiving data messages. They try in vain.

I pity them... I truly do.

So feel proud when your phone makes that ugly noise.
Know that you are better than the others.

In fact. I think SE does it on purpose to keep fools who look upon a nice message sound as criteria for purchasing a phone from Ruining their reputation.

Coramor here here! Well said i agree! Cheers.

Hey,hang on a minute.I compose my own tones so if i want to use one of them for my sms alert should'nt i be allowed to have the option to make a unique sms alert of my own,I THINK SO!

Posted by SE-T68
By the way, Sony Ericsson T600 can change the SMS alert to diffrent tones. So, they know that this is a good option but they cannot do it in our T68i firmware. SE technical Support said, in old inquiry, that this option is hardware issue.

Posted by RCO
Thats odd, because my T68m had a completely different tone before I upgraded it to \"i\"...

You go on to mobile msn's wappage. The wap on the t68i isn't as good as the 3510's, apart from it is in colour, so many pages seem to fail to load. The settings where the same on the nokia as they are on the sony as i copyed them, and it is the same sim card so it can't be that or the network that is the problem.

Hi, I've just got back from my local SE service center UK & they flashed my phone with R7A005!

Is this still a test version?

I hope not, because I dont want my t68i to be fried within a few weeks

Atleast it solved my problem of the data wap stting being deleted everytime I restart the phone

@-=ViBeZ=-

Could you find any new features?

@Cytech

Could you confirm that R7A005 is available on the EMMA II server?

Regards,

Roger

Posted by virtualdynamix
rogervdh,

R7A005 is listed at R7ATEST on EMMA2. But, it's only available for a very limited number of phones. The firmware seems to be available for phones that are not provisioned by a wireless carrier, but direct from the SE factory.

There are two versions, EU and US.

So, I don't really see any difference from R6A012 except that it scrolls thru the menus slightly faster. R6A012 was pretty fast as is. Some others have reported better reception and BT range, but I cannot confirm this as my phone loaded with R7A005 seems to be the same as R6A012 with my Jabra BT200.

What is the EMMA 2 adress on internet?

Posted by -=ViBeZ=-
No new features sorry. They have just speeded up the menu's. I was using R2A*** before the upgrade. So it's a great improvement

as virtualdynamix have written.... R7A is available as testversion for one EU version and one US version. It's only available for T68i, not for MMS upgraded T68m phones.

Have compared R6A with R7A in a network simulator, and it seems as R7A has some improvements on reception.

the address is http://emma.extranet.sonyericsson.com
but you have really no use for it... to access the firmware and the flash program you need special flashing equipment...

Thanks for the update. Currently I'm using R6A012. So I wait for the final R7XXX release. It's a good thing that R7XXX (maybe) has some improvements on reception. Why does SE release a test-version when R6A012 is quite reliable? Normally I should expect a reason...or is it usual that they release test-versions?

Regards,

Roger

they release test versions, but normally these are only available at for internal testing and at the advanced repair center... but for some reason they have released it to other servicepoints as well...

Is there any chance that they would loose these little small graficalplates with info and start showing it in the display instead?
That would really speed things up.

R7A is a bit more stable... but a new firmware is not the whole solution... the hardware part of the problem is the shieldingcan (metal plate between the curcuit board and the back cover)...

read in the following threads about the versions after yours... R7A is now removed from the firmware server... this might mean it will be available as offical release soon.

R5D007
R5C001
R5A020
R6A012 / R6A012 II

What is the exact type of the cable for flashing?

I just want this phone work a lot faster. Why does this phone lag too much? Unlike other phones. I thought because it processes a lot more because of d colored screen. How come nokia phones doesnt lag as much?

Posted by Coramoor
It seems like all ericsson phones lag(except t66,t600 and prolly p800)
Why they haven't fixed it remains a mystery to me...
They get almost everything right except speed....
It's really frustrating. So frustrating that I actually bought a nokia.
Although it was a fast phone it sucked so much in all the other aspects that I had to come back to ericsson or Sony ericsson(t68i)
