Hi all,

Well i just called 191 and have changed my price plan to one of the new plans at the same price and although i have lost a lot texts that i didn't use any way. I can now set my Push E-Mail to roam when i am away from WiFi and even engage in some Web Surfing at up to 7.2mbps HSDPA.

It really looks like Voda have made some great moves in the Data Services they offer and this change really suits me well. Having previously not having liked VodaFone very much and only having chosen them as i wanted a N95 8GB i am now really happy with this deal especially as there HSDPA speeds are by far the best.

They are much better than 02's reduced rates or what T-Mobile give you on a standard Data deal. Not sure what Orange's are but doubt they compete with this as now for the same cost with just less texts i have 500mb of super fast Data today has turned out to be good day.

Unlimited = 500Mb? LOL

I hate the way the word unlimited is being used more and more to mean anything but.

Posted by PeterKay
Nice one Voda

Posted by ayejatt
500mb is more than enough for an average user imo..

its better than the "unlimited" on o2 which is 200mb!

vodafone is looking better and better with free unlocking and free data!

Posted by jcwhite_uk
I am due an upgrade on O2 and was going to stay with them but might goto Vodafone now.

Now all they need to do is provide a signal (reception is really poor where I live, it's the same with T-Mobile)

In any case, I'm not having a go at Vodafone, it's just this 'unlimited' tag that bothers me. How companies get away with lying like that is amazing.

Posted by jcwhite_uk
It is amazing how many "unlimited offers" there are now.

Posted by Dogmann
Hi all

Yes especially as none of them actually are unlimited or even close to it. Fortunately i have really good coverage where i am and as currently don't have a Data plan loosing some minutes and texts that i don't use anyway woks really well for me.

What speeds are people getting from T-Mobile now? as i last saw they were not full speed 3.6mbps and we all know about 02's lack of speed. My package change starts from midnight so will check what speed i get from Voda tomorrow and post the results. Currently i get just short of 3megs over my WiFi connection and am interested to see if Voda is faster or not.

Forgot to mention this is not just for new contracts and that you can change your plan to a new one, the only thing you can't do is prior to month 9 of your contarct is reduce your spend pm.

On T-Mobile the best speed that I have had through my N95 is about 1MB/min

Posted by ayejatt
Called them, wanted me to add another 6 months to my current 12 months contract to add internet, not good enough,, Dont think it would be long they allow it for all customers..

Posted by Miss UK
Will Vodafone let you change your tariff anyone know?

I wasn't happy that they reduced there plans and I could of had 500 anytime / network mins and unlimited texts for £25 per month not fair

appart from that im happy for the time being,
I added the data onto my account and it's really fast,

but yeah great idea free data thats what we all want included in our plans afterall good on them!

Posted by Mr Miyagi
This deal is crap. I would like to clarify O2's deal is not 200MB it is subject to an excessive usage policy which is certainly not 200MB or 500MB it is much more than that. In addition to this, on £25 or above you can have unlimited internet foc as part of the plan as the free unlimited bolton.

plus on voda i just read: Only for new customerz or i need to downgrade or upgrade to a new tariff and adding another 6monthz to my 18monthz contract<<<< one of the terms to get this tariff apparently. read it on that link at the start of the post

Looks like voda are finally trying to catch up by copying O2.

Marc, they activate data straight away if you go on your account you can activate it and switch it off yourself,

ive had mine a few weeks used about 40MB
data is actually free for the foirst monthbut I wanna see if they will let me have it included for free now!

gonna go over to the eForum and findout

how do you check the speed?
I can do that for you all if you want on my N95 8GB let me know

@ Mr Miyagi, no comment on 02 they don't amuse me anymore

Posted by Dogmann
Hi all

To clear up any confusion as i said i am 6 months into a 12 month contract @£35pm and have moved to one of the new £35pm with less texts and minutes but 500mb of Data.

You can't decrease you monthly spend from your current until month 9 of your contract but you can move to one of the new contracts at the same monthly spend. As that is what i have just done if the person you are talking to says you can't either explain the above or ring back and speak to some one else.

@Miss UK

It's not turning on my Data, it's my price plan change doesn't change for billing before midnight and that's when the new plan will appear on my account if i started using Data before then it would cost me.

But yes I' very happy and couldn't care less how many more minutes or texts 02 gave who wants to surf with a HSDPA device at 384kbps as opposed up to 3.6bmps. I will do speed checks tomorrow and see what speeds i actually get.

and verify that which is correct look at this topic
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1711&hl=data&st=0
it also says that the £7.50 data useage of 120MB is going upto 500MB and if you have the data till the end of your plan all you will pay for it is £5,

this is for all existing users who are on none of the new tariffs as of yet

@ Marc, I was gonna say as I assumed your data,
cos that's done at a click of a button

have you not used Vodafone live at all?
it's very good you can check your billin account,
turn alot of subscriptions of and do heaps more,

some pages are actually free but not as this bothers you or me
anyway I hope you have fun using your E90 at work or on the go,

the internet is definitely Mobile

Dogmann so I am currently 4 months into my 12 months contract.
Paying £35 for 500 minutes and 250 text.

Can i change to NEW £35 which is 500mins & 100 Text + 500MB bundle?

as i was told to add 6 months on my current 12mths to change

Posted by Dogmann
Hi ayejatt

I am only two months further in the same contract and that is exactly what i have done and I'm not special. As i said just ring and speak to some one else it's new so not all the staff fully understand it yet.

Will give it another go tmr.

Called them, they said its sorted now...without extending the contract

Can i check the contract end date and plan online?? Will have to stop the paperbill wont it?

Posted by Daedalus85
At least with O2, unlimited it just that, there is no 'limit', no 200MB, no 500MB, not even 1GB, you can just keep going and going. If you use it as a modem, then you get charged, but I think thats fair enough really.

And their working on the speeds, Ofcom have already given them a little slap on the wrists and believe me, their working on it now

Posted by jcwhite_uk
Can you use the data on the new Vodafone tariffs via your computer or is it just for browsing on your mobile?

Posted by Mr Miyagi
JC i would check with them to be honest. Last thing you want to do is use it without checking and getting stung big time by voda.

Good Good!
btw I don't know if you can check when your plan expires,
but you can check all your useage, you have to register for an account when you do this you get your bills online not thru your property doorstep!

as im aware Vodafone don't send both so they have mentioned to be before

I don't think the £25 plans are very good tbh but still,
ive had the 500MB added now for £5 per month instead of £7.50 so atleast my bills £30 a month

Posted by Mr Miyagi
£5 for only 500MB its still not free and unlimited is it though? Unlike O2 I would never pay for me internet bolton.

Im not sure if it's unlimited,
120MB does me nicely for the time anyway it's like im just using it for the fun of it which I do, ive downloaded tracks and spent days on here for ages, and listened to Online radio etc, don't think ive even reached 50MB yet

this is my first month with the data pack it's free for a month then im paying £5.00 so ive done pretty well and it's nice to know Vodafone have increased the Megabytes

funny how they done this though I actually mentioned this in topic on the Forum, seems the Vodafone Staff must be noting down what there customers want!

I wonder if they will also do something for existing customers now with the Mobile Broadband it's £15 for 3GB but tbh existing customers should get it half price like 3 and 02 offer there customers

although Vodafone did tell me to contact them about it then maybe they would negotiate something already

Posted by Mr Miyagi
unlimited is unlimited

Posted by Daedalus85
Exactly, they shouldn't advertise it as unlimited unless it really is, ala O2

Posted by masseur
I joined o2 a month ago porting my number so that I could use EDGE on my iphone as t-mob that I had been with for a year don't have it.

I took the simplicity with "unlimited" data which 2 separate customer service people said was truly "unlimited" before I made the move but after making the move it was explained to me during a 30 minute conversation with 2 customer service people and their manager that in fact it was "technically" unlimited but had a 200mb fair use policy for the unlimited web bolt on for which I pay £7.50/month. Indeed I had a bit of discussion about this in the O2 Tariffs 1st feb (good for data users) and 3g speed restriction discussion at the time.

I could not find any mention of the 200mb on that bolt-on page, nor on the terms and conditions, or any where else on the o2 site, and the manager I spoke to couldn't find it either but quoted text on the intranet stating 200mb, which is fine if you work for o2!

I'm awaiting my pac code again now to move back to t-mob or maybe now after reading this thread I'll consider moving back to vodafone where I originally got my great number and spent almost 7 years

@ Mr Miyagi and James,

listen to teacher (Masseur) im not saying a thing

btw these should be on the first page of this topic here are the new plans which I got from Vodafones eForum posted by one of the Staff there

Posted by Mr Miyagi
Masseur. All i can say is that you have been poorly misinformed by the managers and staff. When the unlimited bolt on was first introduced it was a 200mb usage limit. When o2 launched the iphone it was 200mb limit too however due to complaints by customers they decided to make it unlimited. O2 den launched wot it called its unlimited tariffs.where as if you are on a sim only deal you can have an unlimited option or if you are sayin 35or more on 18 month contract again have an unlimited option on your plan.the unlimited options have got rid of the fair usage limit.i can assure u of that. James can confirm dis4me as an o2employee

I can completely agree with that, on the Simplicity £25 and above you can have truly UNLIMITED web, provided your using your phone to browse and not your PC, and same applies to standard £35/month and above contracts on 18-months.

Posted by Alpha Trion
@Dogmann

Don't want to be a pain but what are the data/download/browsing speeds you're receiving on Vodafone now via your phone?......you did say you'd post speeds yesterday

Currently got about about 2 weeks left on my Orange contract and really want my next contract to include fast, reliable, mobile internet & email usage.

I'm in a real dilema at the moment as the phone that would fulfill more than all my needs (N82 black) has just been released on Orange, but we all know how tragic their data bundles/costs are. a few months ago i was certain i was going to switch to O2 (N82 silver) on an 18 month with the data bolt-on but then came the whole data speed cap issue. Now suddenly (almost out the blue in my eyes) Vodafone have come up with this gem, the downside in my eyes though is no N82.

Anyway just compiled 3 mobile speed tests as i type (100k) and have recorded an average of 107.6kb/s (76, 122 & 125kb/s) all with full 3g reception.

On a bit of a side note, having read about Vodafone currently implementing the short code bar for summer 2008 (as T-Mobile) they are becoming more and more a serious consideration for my custom.

Posted by ayejatt
how can you test ? :S

i'll try on mine

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Alpha Trion

I hadn't tested it yet as haven't really been out of my room due to pain and it doesn't get the best of signals due to Double Glazing as you can see, but i just did a quick test with the below results. When I'm out and about and have a better signal i will test it again to see if it improves as the other day it was showing 998kbps.

i have to note that you will only get the best speed depending on location. For example. Doggman correct me if i am wrong, according to your name it says below location London? I take it that is where you from? Most networks would provide the fastest speed der due to demand and corporate demand from those working in the city.

Since I have read it somewhere that vodafone's best speed will only be in London and not other areas. I believe the speed goes up to 6MB i think.

So those in area's that are not major cities may find the speed slightly lower.

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Mr Miyagi,

I'm in Hendon which is NW London but as i explained i don't get a great signal when in my flat due it's construction and Double Glazing. When i am in a little less pain and get out i will test again with a full signal strength and see if the speed improves.

forgot 5.27mb thats what im getting atm! Im in west midlands

Posted by Dogmann
Hi all

Just realised that yesterday i actually used the wrong VodaFone connection this is the result using VodaFone Internet which gives a much better result as you can see. But i will try again at some point from a different location.

But even this speed is approximately 4.5 times faster than standard 3G @384kbps.

@Miss UK

Sorry to disappoint you but it is just not possible for you to be getting 5.2mbps as the max speed your N95 8GB will handle is 3.6mbp, so not sure how you arrived at that figure. I think the 1086kbps is your speed which is just over 1mbps and still nearly 3 times faster than 3G.

Bloody hell! (excuse my french) thats an excellent connection speed. The more i read into Vodafone at the moment the more appealing they become. Thanks for that Marc (good to have you back on here by the way, after a few months absence i believe).

@Miss UK, good to hear you can receive good speeds too in the W-Midlands being based there myself.

Now thinking possibly:
1 - take contract on Voda with N95 8GB
2 - sell N95 8GB
3 - purchase N82 Black via Nokia direct

Oh sorry, must not be paying as much attention these days!
just remember you getting/giving a bit of grief earlier in the year thats all (well, some fine heated debates against some 'blinkered fanboys' to be honest if i remember correctly ) and mentioning you were going to shy away from Esato for a while.
Anyway, getting back to the thread subject Voda are definately looking positive for my vote but have yet to see what orange retention deal i can get. If they won't budge on their measly/expensive data then in all likelihood i'll be tasting some of those high download speeds first hand very soon

Posted by Miss UK
Marc I tested that with Vodafone live connection!
theres 4 other settings which are available from Vodafone on the N95-2.

thespeed keeps varies btw I used some mobile speed test site called:
broadbandchoices.co.uk

since ive upted my data my accounts unavailbe to get into yet my 3.5g seems alot quicker then it was a few days ago, the 3.5g actually stays on the phone most of the time but sometimes refers to 3g

Im located near the merryhill centre in the midlands
yeah you should test the N95-2 its a good handset quite capable of anything tbh

I popped into Vodafone store saturday and picked up the new mag for May eveything you need to know about the new plans is is there

Just looking at my account from Vodafone and they have completely moved me onto the new £30 tariff 150 anytime network mins and 500 texts with 500MB data without extending me priorley another 6mths

I may have to see if Passports still free cos I use myphone to text Germany and with that you save on texts

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Miss UK

I would suggest using the VodaFone Internet APN as all the others are Wap connections although i saw as high as 998kbps on that connection which is close to the 1086kbps you got. But the Max speed your device can get is 3.6mbps as that is it's maximum ability with the hardware it has it is just not possible for it to exceed that speed how ever great it is.

The iPhone speed test i use works directly on the phone so if you have a screenshot app is easy to record. Try using a VodaFone Internet connection to,

i.dsir.net/tinyspeedtest.html

in your Web address and see what it reports.

Marc

Thanks Marc,

I called 191 and the rep said i am on my "old plan" and I have been moved to the new plan now and when i asked "have i been charged for the data used in the past 2 days" and she said no although the unbilled charges on my next bill is £43.XX(seen online). Guess will have to call them when i get the next statement then,
