messi vs ronaldo
Posted by PeterKay
sometimes this can happen in big games, nothing new!
and Yes Ronaldo is the best player in the world whether he misses a penalty or not
Posted by deepsme
Haven't really seen Ronaldo perform in the big games yet..last year he was outplayed by Kaka in the semis...and last night Messi contributed much more even though he was coming after an injury lay-off..
Posted by PeterKay
judge him not on 1 game but the season.
Posted by deepsme
Yeah but Manu's season could be crap if he plays like yesterday in chelsea's game and the 2nd leg...a big game performance is what i'm yet to see of this boy...
Posted by PeterKay
Player of the year for me.
Posted by Dicky Snapples
how can you be the best player in the world if you dont perform on the big stage?
Posted by fatreg
stage fright?
Posted by pmerryman
How much money does he get? and he cant put the ball in the net.

Exactly, IMO Player of the Year could very well be the man who performs the best in the second leg, the final and Euro '08.

ManU had had easy teams throughout the CL, now they play a team that won the cup a few years back and you can see that its too much quality to handle. ManU defence gets all the credit, they were great but you see how weak their attack is. In the EPL all you need is speed and strength but that won't work against Barca. I expect the same at Old Trafford. There is a huge difference between the EPL and CL. So far the best performance was Arsenal v Milan, they played proper quality possession football and overcame the holders. I feel that Liverpool will have the best chance against Barca in the final rather than Chelski.

no matter what you say he will get player of the year.
Posted by pmerryman
There is no doubt in my mind, that he will get player of the year, but I think a player of his skill, should be able to perform on the big stage.

Man utd have not been impressive this season. Sure they have won games but not with the style which they won it with last year. In my opinion Liverpool are very lucky, they have not been impressive either, and if Spurs did not flop in the start of the Season, I honestly could'nt have seen Liverpool coming 4th. You guys will proberly disagree, I am a Spurs fan afterall lol
EDIT
How can you guys defend Ronaldo with the penalty!? Its alright blasting it from 40 yards in the back of the net with the hole team in the way, but when its 12 yards and only the keeper, he can't do it? I mean wtf is up with that?

he is human, penalties have been missed by great players on bigger stages.

By mister Robert Baggio

I know, but if he can do all these amazing free kicks, surley a penalty isnt to much to ask?
Posted by PeterKay
its not easy as it looks.
Posted by pmerryman
For £150,000 a week, should be a piece of piss, and if he struggles, practice.
Posted by Dicky Snapples
and it wasnt just the penalty, most of the game.
Messi was alot better
Posted by ares
Ronaldo is being key for MU to stay on top of Premiere League, Messi...well...Barça has been awfull in La Liga, and probably will be eliminated on the from CL. Btw, how many goals and assists does Messi have vs Ronaldo???
AFAIK, Ronaldo penalty conversion rate has been very high...but he his human, and this time he missed it
Posted by PeterKay
true ares, true.

Remember Roberto Baggio missing a penalty against Brazil in the final of the world cup?
I can't believe how harsh some of you are! How often have any of you failed to do something you knew you could do but couldn't at that time? Like ares said he is human after all.
It was a terrible match, too tactical and defensive (which was ManU's game plan).

he gets paid £150,000/week to put the ball in the back of the net. If he can't do it from 12 yards he is not doing his job and shouldn't get paid. I have nothing against him, but if your getting paid that much..I mean come on..

No i am not a man utd fan but i do know an exceptional player when i see one
Ronaldo is the current leader in the standings for the European Golden Shoe, the award for the European top goal scorer, with a six-point lead ahead of second-placed Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
Barclays Premier League Top Scorers
Ronaldo Man Utd 28
Torres Liverpool 22
Adebayor Arsenal 21
Regarding his penalty miss last night just shows doesnt matter who you are everybody makes mistakes.

its all about the money. football players arent any sportmen in my eyes, other would more deserve that money what they earn in that circus. according ronaldo, as i see, a penalty should have been scored imo. thats the only thing he has to do, thats the only "task" these monkeys get their money for.

henry messi Eto'o

Reading through all the posts the common theme is that if you are paid £150.000 per week you should be able to score a penalty from 12 yards, fair point i guess, but every one is human and makes mistakes.
Ronaldo may be paid £150,000 per week but what about the amount of money he atracts to man utd in
Sponorship deals and shirt and ticket sales
And considering he is about to be voted European player of the year i think he is worth it.
When David Beckham joined Real Madrid for £25m they made his transfer fee back in a matter of months through Endorsements, ticket and shirt sales etc
Beckham`s shirt sales alone outsold the rest of the Real madrid team combined 2-1 quite an acomplishment considering madrid had Raul,Zidane cassilas and Roberto Carlos (And no i m not a Real madrid Fan either)

Ronaldo - PFA player of the year
Second leg tonight, come on United.
Posted by Dicky Snapples
0-1 to Barcelona
Posted by haynesycop
I'll plump for United, if Liverpool manage to make it through i'd prefer them to play a team they no inside out.
Posted by EMS06
United look good for the final but I don't see Liverpool making it. Of course I could be proven wrong in bouth scenarios.
Posted by pmerryman
I think united will edge it tonight, but think Liverpool will struggle.
Posted by PeterKay
United v Chelski in finals hopefully.
Ronaldo = Legend.
Posted by haynesycop
Ronaldo is a cheating little sh!t just like Drogba!
Posted by PeterKay
and thats why he's player of the year
Posted by haynesycop
Nobody is denying he is a good player there both exceptional but they ruin it with the diving and such like, there both a bunch of fairies. Good players treat the game and opposition with respect, simple as that.
Posted by thomas93
She ownes your arse Peter.
Posted by sepehr_sz
i think tonyt the second leg final score will be 1-1
Posted by thomas93
That wont happen.

Man U 2-1 Barca
Thats what me thinks! Ronaldo and Tevez on the scoresheet for them...

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Should be a good game (unlike the 1st leg) if Barca score United will need some fire power upfront.
Come on United
Posted by totalgsm
I go for Barca winning 2-0 or 2-1
Posted by PeterKay
lets try again
WOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Moscow here we come
Well done United.
Posted by badassmam
Well done ManU, why did you not dominate against such a sh*t team? You have had the best possible run to a final, just hope that Chelsea don't meet you there. Overall, as much as I hate to say it, ManU did definately deserve the win.
Messi was the best man while Ronaldo proved that he is a big game flop again. He is awful in CL matches. The Golden Ball winner will be decided after Euro 2008 and my bets are on Luca Toni.
Go Chelsea purely because Liverpool are 10 years away from beating ManU.
