You know things are really entering the realms of hype slash hysteria when cardboard boxes are hot news, but here goes...
Two "sightings" of mystery Apple boxes just days before Steve Jobs' WWDC08 keynote speech, that's thought to be the launch of the 3G iPhone, are making tech news headlines this morning.
One such box has arrived down under clearly marked, "Subject to terms of NDA, do not open until June 10th", which, due to time differences, is the date of the WWDC keynote in Australia.
With similar boxes also delivered to resellers across the county, the speculation goes that it's demo models of the 3G iPhone before the device's launch in Oz, thought to be on 19 July.
Meanwhile, stacks of unmarked boxes are appearing at a Quanta distribution centre in Fremont, California, believed to be the current iPhone manufacturer, with the depot in question said to be "overflowing with Apple deliveries".
AppleInsider reports that employees at the Quanta building are said to be "very active and also elusive: the shipping supervisor was really busy".
So putting it all together - there's Apple deliveries hitting a depot, "elusive" warehouse staff and someone in Australia got an Apple delivery. Must mean 3G iPhone.

Gicanto: fake. Engadget pretty much confirms that. As I said earlier, it would be similar to that device, not exactly.
Be very careful: many Apple fanboys doing lots of photoshopping and some look pretty real. Let's wait for Monday alright? =)

It looks pretty good to me, but who knows?
Speaking of video-calling, no manufacturer I know of does video calling properly - screen are too small, pixelated video, 0.3Mp cameras. A200 platform inproves the breed a bit but the best of the lot is my V800 with 1.3Mp rotating camera.
If iPhone has a decent video call camera and 25fps+ recording quality, it could leap frog everyone else in this area. The big screen is a good start.
I don't know about you guys, but I do use video calling and have unlimited video calling to my wife and 13yr old son on my plan.

I think it looks photoshopped for a few reasons:
A: The speaker grill is very grey when it should be black, which suggests they've photoshopped it to invert the colours or something.
B: The video call camera is a perfect circle despite the photo being taken from an angle. Then theres a lot of extra noise around the camera which dosn't exist across the rest of the image.
It is confusing. I believe parts of the image are real, but I just don't know what bits those are. It looks far too similar to the original iPhone (except white), but many informed rumours confirmed a rather different looking device.

How else can you turn on the phone? If you compare the red and black phones [look at back view], the black phone has the sleep/wake button but the red doesn't?
If you look very carefully to the iChat specifications page, #2 footnote says: Windows Xp. Apple will never write Windows Xp but instead Windows XP.
These small mistakes just show it's a fake.

Apple has learned so much with the first iPhone. They have taken everything they've learned and more and created the iPhone 3G. Even thinner, black plastic back, solid metal buttons, same gorgeous display, camera, flush headphone jack, and dramatically improved audio.
