Best Mp4 video conversion software for K850i

Hi all,

Can anyone out there recommend software to convert from various formats FLV, AVI etc to MP4.

I was using M3 which by far gave the best picture quality , but have now moved to Windows Vista and am having problems running it (even in Xp compatibility mode).

Have tried the Xillsoft convertor which I found wasn't as sharp a picture as M3.

Any recommendations...either freeware or one I have to pay for.

Thanks in advance.

Try Super©, it's free, quite easy to use and it is able to convert to and from a HUGE number of formats (all codecs included, no need to download and install anything else). You will find it good enough to convert video or audio files for the PC too, not just for your mobile. What's a bit tricky is to actually download it, as it will take you trough a few clicks on different pages before you get to the real download page. If you use a referrer blocker for your browser, disable it while browsing this site.
Once you installed it, my recommendations are:
[1. Output Container]: 3gp (Sony Ericsson)
[2. Output Video Codec]: MPEG-4
[3. Output Audio Codec]: AAC
Video:
Video Scale Size: 320x240, obviously
Aspect: will default to 4:3 when you choose the Video Scale Size
Frame/Sec: 15 (feel free to experiment with higher values)
Bitrate kbps: 336 for best quality/size ratio (my personal opinion)
Options: have "Hi Quality" and "3gp v5" checkboxes enabled
Other options, like trimming (selecting only a part of) the clips or adjusting the volume are available under "Other opts" button.
Audio:
Sampling Frequency: 44100
Channels: 2
Bitrate kbps: 64 for movies/speech, 96 or higher for music videos

Also, check "DirectShow Decode" option for faster decoding of the file you are converting. If this fails, uncheck it. The decoding part will take longer, but will eventually succeed.
Every option in the main screen is explained trough tooltips (hover your mouse over the setting).

As a last note: do not alarm over the 3gp extension you will get, the file has MP4 quality!

Lucian, you are welcome.
wayne, Nero Recode is better in terms of speed and quality, I've been using it for 2 years to encode videos for my K750i. Unfortunately, it's not free and, most of all, for some strange reason the .mp4 files created with the last version (8.3.2.1) can't be played with the phone or QuickTime. But that could be just something related to my WinXP, not a general issue. Anyway, I discovered Super while searching for a free encoder to make videos for my other phone, an ultimate piece of ... called Nokia 6233 which didn't cope at all with the clips made by Nero (jerky playback and de-synchronization of audio and video). Super proved to be good enough for the K750i too, so I've been recommending it ever since.

get a nokia n82 where you dont need to convert to 240x320 and 24.9 fps 330kb/s bit rate LOL, stupid sony!

don't know what you talking about. i like sony, and i use 400kbps with 96/128bit AAC sound (stereo) 25-30fps and 2 passes. Videos look good. u can also try 460video and 128/196 AAC audio 25-30FPS, for music videos. using M3 (when u start it, have the NET disabled!!!, and install net framework 1 and 2). when u watch a regular movie u normally get 23.9-25FPS, so 25 is enough (DVDs have 60 or more, but u can't really tell the difference)

i use MPEG4 DIRECT MAKER

it is the best (i mean the BEST) i have ever used.... (a little complicated but professional program....)

M3 ruin long movies by putting the sound out of sync with the video

it is not a freeware.... but the crack is everywhere with the help of google...

well i watched a 2h movie, and it didnt desync. Maybe u did something wrong :/ most of the time leave the FPS as same as source.

Hi,

I don't think you should post this kind of comment at Esato.

Yes, everyone knows about this, but it is not good to encourage people to steal software from the author(s) who spent so much time in programming.

I've been reading a lot about the K850 being able to play files @ 30fps. Armed with the latest version of ffdshow (for XViD decoding and VobSub subtitling) and Super, I am struggling to find the best settings for my phone. I do not have the latest firmware which is supposed to fix the media players speed issues and this is what i found so far:
- the highest values that would keep audio and video synchronized are 432 kbps for video and audio 96 kbps for audio.
- the most "forgiving" video codec with the phone's processor (and therefore battery consumption) seems to be XviD - also recommended by Sony Ericsson in their video tutorial on Developer's World website.
I only tested the above settings at 25 frames per second, because that's how the original movie was encoded.
So, as I write, "The Blair Witch Project" is being encoded in a 3gp v5 wrapper using XviD at 336 kbps, 320x240 at 25 fps, AAC 44100Hz stereo at 96 kbps. From the preview clips I made earlier, these settings keep the audio and video synched. If the movie is paused or rotated (changing between portrait and landscape) the image lags behind but the player recovers in 5 seconds or less. Tomorrow I'll let you know how the phone performed and how big was the resulting file compared to the original.

If anybody else made experiments and discovered other (meaning better) settings, please share! But only if you used SUPER, because I am not interested in M3 or Nero Recode... been there, done that.

Bafta! (means "good luck")

try M3, and get 400kbps video and 128 or 96 AAC audio. My k810 can play it perfectly. SUPER.. try the same, and see if it works. PS use same FPS as source . this is a tip not to get desynced audio.

I am not happy with the result. Not at all.
Filesize: 250 MB (691 MB original movie)
Quality: medium. The picture is extremely blocky when the camera moves fast and occasional artifacts occur in the image, especially around the subtitles and dark areas.

Overall, seems like i need to go higher with the video bitrate, but I can't! The sound plays normal but the image lags behind if I do that (even if I use File manager instead of Media to watch the movie). Damn it!
Any other suggestion? Please bear in mind the fact that I want subtitles encoded in my movie files).
