So a phone is worth that money just cos it has premium build quality. Not justified.
you really do live in another world dont you? is this the first time you've seen something expensive because of its premium built? Vertu, Gresso. Look those two brands up.

you people make "something" out of "nothing", huh?? buying a mobile is a matter of choice.. no one has a right to say that "that phone is crap vs this cheaper one" or something like that.. and who are you to say that?? its not like it's your money..
peace!

This is getting out of hand. There's absolutesly not one thing wrong with someone's dislike of a particular product. As much as the arte is a lovely phone (IMO) it is overpriced for what it does even at the quality materials used. Like I stated previously I'm willing to spend that much money if the phone is a smartphone. Now that is personal preference and point of view.

There is a luxury edition of Motorola V8 which is gold plated. For this reason price is too high. For me gold plated is useless but I’m sure many people will buy the luxury edition because for the gold plated. So it’s actually point of view. Arte’s materials are so expensive so that phone price tag is high.
I remember, Britney Spears bought a bag for $10000. It’s an ordinary bag but made by crocodile’s skin. So some time materials do matter to people.

Freedom of speech is an amazing thing, and I'll talk about who I want to talk about on the Internet. Oh, and it was obviously supposed to say "she'd rather pick out [...]", not he'd.

Still think its a rip off. Anyway no its not the first time i have seen an expensive phone like that. I seen in shop windows of certain stores Vertu phones. Horrible. Im just voicing my opinion on it and what i said is true its a rubbish rip off. Anyway im finished with this thread.
Posted by Daedalus85
Actually, the V8 Luxury edition isn't that expensive now, Phones 4 U were doing it free on a £35/month 18-month contract.
Anyway, it's still for those with more money than sense, or knowledge.
I've sold a few 8800's, so I know they appeal to, and their always the same show off, hide behind their D&G sunglasses, snobby, obnoxious, arrogant dick heads, and more often than not I spend the entire conversation talking them out of it, simply on principal. They then buy something they need rather than think they might want.
Posted by Bonovox
Well said. Actually i might add the Motorola V8 the normal one concentrates on whats important in a phone like conversation quality with Chrystal Talk and with stylish design good build quality who needs to spend a grand. I rest my case. Though i would not actually buy a Motorola myself lol

First you say you're voicing your opinion then you say what you're saying is true.

Mizzle, it's not about he's or she's taste, it is about your attitude lately. A bit insulting. You have the right on your opinion, and so is everyone else, you put yours as the ultimate one. Sorry mate, but I feel like that.

Thats because he's the SE expert.

Just did a quick research and found out that the motorola v8 uses the exact same materials at a fraction of the price. The fact that the arte is marketed as a niche product makes it that expensive. Considering the v8 is the arte with better looks is the arte's price worth it? For me the answer is an emphatic no!

The fact that there is freedom of choice, personal taste and finantial state makes that piece of crap justified.

Goldstriker has gone down the platinum route with the Nokia 8800 Arte "Snow Fox" edition.
Set yourself apart from the rest of the richies with their golden mobiles with this white gold effort that also boasts 40 individually set AAA grade ultra white synthetic diamonds.
To be released on 1 May 2008, this will unsurprisingly set you back a pretty penny, or £1095 to be precise.

Jesus. Does anyone expect or think SonyEricsson are going to release a phone this expensive in the near future. It seems to me they dont waste time and money doing so as they probably think they wont sell.

I just wonder what would you say if
would release one...

Lol you dont know anything man, you're a SE fanboy. Nokia 8xxx series have been extremely popular.
Posted by Fanofmodi
Yeah extremly popular, like n95 or k800 or like w200? Keep joking.
Posted by belialwafu
know what? people buy this so they can show the worl "Hey look at me, I'm rich." Thats my thought about it and if they are happy with that, then let them. But if I had that much money, i'm not to boastful to buy that piece of crap, im just going to buy more Functional phones.

W200 is popular? Are you for real? I've yet to see anyone with that phone. And again this shows your lack of understanding.
8800 isnt suppose to sell 1 million copies. nokia has a target in mind, say 100,000(thats a ball park figure) and if it surpasses then its a hit.
Posted by Fanofmodi
Wow, ur yet to see someone around with w200? Fu*ing joke. Then my friend u must be living around with richies, m sure they dont own a w200. But in my country u dont get to see those 8xxx, but w200 everywhere. Atleast m proud that my negihbouring country is so rich, where 8xxx is extremly popular and cant find one w200. Great.

evidence of what? you want me to take a picture of all owners of 8800 and upload it here? when was the last time a company released actual sales figures of their models?

well...I can confirm that I did see sh..tloads of 8xxx in my country; certainly more than SE' P series... Personally, I do not find them really attractive ( especially Scirroco and Arte, first one was kind of OK ), but that is just the matter of design - I don't like Nokia's design in general. Wouldn't mind seeing SE's take on the segment, but I would expect to see some real quality regarding the camera, sound quality etc.. As far as the price of those Nokias is concerned... it is quite logical knowing which is the target audience; I mean majority of the people I know that are using them, need ( or know how to use ) just a basic call and SMS functions...rest of the time, they are polishing their phones and admiring the shiny finish, so why not let them pay for it ? :-)

I had (still got as a spare) a Nokia 8800 and its true its got a poor camera, so-so screen, what it does have is rock solid build quality and the slider action is one of the best I've encountered.
Each to his/her own I suspect!
Posted by Bonovox
But that still does not justify the price just cos it has great build quality. SonyEricsson W890 has fantastic build quality but thats not over priced. They say it has superior materials but it is not its the same as any other phone made of a solid metal. And features are nothing different too.
Posted by theos
if you look at it's value trough R&D+materials used cost, then no, but some people are willing to pay for that apstract things they think they are getting in package and it is the same thing with most of "luxury" items ...

Well i like the W890i its on my list to get, but there's no I'd compare the build of it to the Nokia 8800 at least not the original one, the Nokia 6300 has good build (comparable at least to the W890i) and thats available for under £80 in the UK. I know its not comparing like for like and ones an old phone and the W890i has not long been released and its price will keep falling.

Not convinced. When i first held the old 8800 the slide shocked me i was expecting some sort of slow gliding slide when pushed it up when i read about expensive ball bearings inside it but it shot up so fast i thought it was going to come off. To me the feel of that slide action was nothing special and whatever it was made of made no difference to me. I thought it was no more smooth than standard slides. Crap. Sorry.

Although even the Arte seems reasonable compared to some in the Vertu range, was in Harrods the other day and a guy was enquiring about one in a cabinet that was £46,000
You could buy a lot of Nokia 1100's for that

And W890 isnt over priced? Come on i know you're biased towards SE, but dont get carried away. W890 is selling for about 450 US $ and its actually worth about half of that.

If Nokia can charge £1000 for a phone and people will pay it, why change?
We've all been down the SE V's every other manufacturer going, and it's simple...
it's different strokes for different folks.
you want a phone that has 8gb of internal memorym, walkman branded, 3mp cam, go ahead get a W960i, I want a phone that works, won't crash and will be as simple to use as every other Nokia I've ever owned, therefore I buy an 8800.....
/actually uses a BlackBerry but does know the appeal of expensive Nokias, having owned a Vertu in my time, they wipe the floor with SE build quality, and at the end of the day, longevity is what we all want.... but hey! I'm just one person, there's another few billion mobile users in the world...

Indeed that W890 is also over priced now.

In our country I find that "Sosyal" people or what you call rich people, dont even have a 8xxx. I saw they got more on the nSeries and some high end ones. because they want functionality...lol
