K850i RSS Reader (Web Feeds) Bug

One of my favourite features of my old K800i was the RSS reader. For anyone who doesn't use it, this enables you to get headlines from web sites (eg forums and news sites) without having to visit them. It makes a lot of sense to use this on a phone because it's much quicker, and uses less data, than visiting the sites directly.

On Friday, I upgraded to a K850i and this was replaced on Monday after I complained of problems using the RSS reader.

On both phones, when trying to update all my subscribed feeds, a red exclamation mark appeared after all of them. After this happened, I couldn't update any feeds. When I try, I get an hour glass for a fraction of a second before returning to the list of feeds.

The first one also suffered from this problem until it worsened and the phone vibrated and rebooted whenever I tried to update the feeds.

With the first phone, I was encouraged by T-Moble to try updating the firmware via SEUS, even though I knew I already had the latest available version. This had no effect on the Web Feeds menu; it didn't even delete my list of feeds, although it reset everything else on the phone.

Currently, I can add and remove feeds but not update them.

Both phones worked fine for the first day or so and I've had no problems with any other features. Everything else that uses the data connection works fine.

The fact that I've had two phones with the problem leads me to think that it's a firmware bug. I haven't seen many mentions of this problem but it's very hard to search the web for references to RSS because you'll just end up finding web pages that happen to contain RSS feeds. I've only found one mention of it on this forum (in the massive K850 Firmware Overview thread) with no subsequent discussion.

My choices seem to be:

1. complain to my provider and ask them to send a second replacement, which may or may not suffer from the same fault;

2. live with the fault in the hope that it'll be fixed by a future update; (I know Opera Mini also does RSS but this is less convenient than going into a menu on the phone.)

3. try replacing the phone's firmware with a generic version in the hope that this fixes it;

4. ditch the K850i and ask for something else.

Any views on what I should do? I'm in the UK and the software is the T-Mobile customised R1DA038.
