I found some tom tom software but i have not installed yet as im a little concerned about it, any suggestions of what to use?

the internal gps doent support tomtom, u have to use an external solution for it. only route66 support atm the internal gps in n95, guess with n82 works aswell

been playing with nokia maps that they provide for free, seems to do the job, plus their now offering voice guidance, going to check out the trial before i purchase though.

here is the link for more info on that

you are right after reading more about it, phone needs to have GPS receiver and Mobile Maps 1.0 thanks for the heads up lol downloading now...

download maps 2.0 beta version, its more developed, however its still beat. u can turn gps off if it is, its merged with google map etc very nice and useful

Can you not use Garmin XT with the N82??? I heard you could...

Posted by vladn02
dont know what garmin xt is, ive heard of people using it too, but is it the maps? or is this a physical add-on? thanks.

u can get garmin, thats right, but it works ony with external gps

Hi there

no garmin works with internal gps like route 66. I have all 3 on my n95 8gb and only tom tom needs an external gps.

Garmin is sat nav software just like tom tom and route 66 and is free to use once installed unlike nokia maps when you add voice instructions.

afaik garmin works, but u ahve to make some modifications

Posted by dgable
yeah I just followed the installation instuctions on the read me file.

It turned out to be more straight forward than route66 which i needed a certificate for to enable the intrernal gps to work.

donnow why tomtom still dont wnat to support symbian mobiles... they loose market imo

Posted by vladn02
where would i purchase garmin software? also which is the best, it seems nokia maps is very limited, in terms of the streets on maps, they seem very generic, thanks in advance guys n gals

Posted by BobaFett
forget garmin, its really crap. very confusing an complicated. wish i-go would have symbian support, that the best for me. tomtom has great support and very simple to use, but looks like a child would have draw the maps, bit outdated design. wish one day tomtom will support symbian fones, but still no news of that, however stay stated to work on it

ill stick with the free maps from nokia for now then

basically all phone that support nokia maps 1.0 and higher can support their voice nav feature, but it costs money, currently phones that come with nokia navigator ( another nokia preloaded program ) have the voice guided nav built in, for the rest of us, gotta buy it or hack it

route66 is already hacked, works fine with n95 built in gps, but looks and feels very poor at usage imo, not very impressed
