Everybody turn off your lights at the rate 2hr/year. Sure that'll resolve all energy crises.

ermm how does no sound?

I won't get into the whole environment debate, but until China and America stop using fossil fuels like they are going out of fashion, I ain't gonna do jack.

I made sure everything was turned on. Orchard FM going on about it and then Google trying to be funny with their mini blackout was just annoying me so much. Not everyone wants to conform to this profit-making indoctrination of lies - climate change is a natural occurance that has always happened within Earth's cycle since the beginning of this planet, and there is nothing we can do about it. But the 'craze' will pass over eventually when governments and businesses realise they can't make any more money out of it (or should I say us). I love the environment and nature, but trying to prevent something naturally inevitable by blaming it on man and then proceeding to invent ridiculous and largely hypocritical solutions to preserve and save our world is pathetic. It's funny how most scientists actually agree with this yet our "caring" governments strive to say otherwise.

Lol the local newspapers today showed photos of the "blackout". HAHAHA, so disappointingly bad... The shots from my city showed most people just don't give a crap, and they left their lights on!

Must admit, the shots from Sydney and Melbourne's CBDs were impressive, with the harbour bridge and most tall buildings almost completely black.

@Xugaa
I agree completely.
Have you read 'The Sceptical Environmentalist' by Bjorn Lomborg ? You'll love it. I certainly did. Exposes Greenpeace and World Watch Fund like never before.

Xugaa I agree 100%!

When I logged on to google, with that dark screen, I thought: "Ok, lets pay our taxes on brainwashing propaganda, and lets all live like cave men for a bonus!" Its giving out a message, to live in te dark!

Live Earth was one of the biggest propaganda events in history. All those celebs were likely to have been paid millions to sing a few songs, and talk about the environment. Obviously not stating how they got a private jet to go to the event and that they take 15 private jets a week and snort crack. I would rather listan to scientists than listan to brain dead idiots who will do any thing for extra cash.

For all those who believe in this BS, I feel sorry for you, and have fun living like cave men! That is ofcourse, what you have been brainwashed to live like. The ones who tell you be more sustainable are the biggest hypocrits, no need to explain why. Look how much cash they fork out from it, and look at how much they waste!

Green energy is cheap? 1 million for a Wind Turbine.. thats strange is'nt it?

Err... no need to be that extreme!

By all means live in a sustainable and energy efficient manner. Just be aware that we're not 'going to hell in a handcart' in our lifetime, or our grandchildren's. For instance we have at least 5000 yrs of oil left, but its estimated that solar energy will be practical for most if not all energy needs in approx 50 yrs; the sun is estimated to provide enough energy for all our needs more than 700 times over.

Its all in the book, the figures are all from the UN and WHO, and widely accepted as correct.

One thing that makes me laugh about this whole earth hour thing...

Certain types (infact most) electric light bulbs / tubes are more efficient when you leave them turned on all of the time.

In fact, some types use more energy at the point of switching them on than they do for an entire hour of running.

So that kinda cancels out the idea of switching them off for an hour to save energy, doesn't it?

OK, I'm being pedantic. But this is the environmental version of a crash diet. We need to change our lifestyles to get into the habit of using less energy all of the time so stunts like turning everything off for one hour will not promote sensible energy use.
