Should be easier than so many unnecessary edits!

Just wondering how people are getting on using these on esato?
I have stored the [img] code for Gold Trader in a note on the left hand panel in Opera browser so it is easily accessible to copy & paste.
Still not ideal but it's easy to get hold of and paste into my posts.
Posted by Cycovision
Very good indeed! But I still reckon they need to be in your signature to look right.
How about if you made some specifically for Esato so that they all fit in well with the rest of the site (i.e. silver / grey / black)? Yes, I know the colour represents the level reached but if they all fitted in with Esato well, maybe Laffen would allow these (and only these) images in your signature?
Posted by MikLSP
They are made specially for Trusted Traders, I don't think they'd look very nice in the dull esato colour scheme
Posted by Cycovision
Yeah, but I was thinking of making you work harder and doing a duplicate set in the dull Esato colour scheme just for use on Esato
I'm just thinking that if there were some Esato-specific ones, Laffen might allow them in your sig
Posted by MikLSP
Well I have asked him whether he'll consider allowing people to use these so we'll see what if says.
To be honest I think it would detract from these if they have to have a different esato set. They are universal to be equally recogniseable where ever they're used;)

Trying with HTML this time...
Seems you must edit first...
Oh cr*p!!
NOTE: Anyone found to be using a trader ranking without the required feedback score will receive negative feedback for falsifying their status.
The one in this post.. is for.. erm... R&D only!!

I've said this several times now, you don't need to edit to posts to use these!
Just add the [img] code to your post. No need for HTML, just simple BB Code to show an image, it's as easy as that ???

what he/me meant was it needs to be edited when you put it in the signature... so the signature becomes the text when edited
Posted by PeterKay
best way is to paste the line after your post, it will appear on top of the signature as i have done here:
Posted by MikLSP
Yes, I see. You must edit to get it into your signature but myself and PK have said it is easier to just paste it into your posts for now
Posted by ayejatt
its a hassle but yea, the only way for now...

Is it not possible to enable images in signature?
This way we can put these bars in our sigs?
Posted by paul101
^^^^ yeah, at least try enabling images in sigs!!

@ OV3RCLOCK3R & paul101
if it was up to me of course you could have images in sigs but I'm not staff on esato, far from it.
I have already PM'd laffen to ask for these in sigs but he is yet to reply.
If you would also like to PM him perhaps we'll get a response.
@ HIJET
D'oh!

Still no reply from laffen about adding these to signatures....
I'll keep you all posted as soon as I get a response

I have been thinking about this and as you might have guessed based on the forum design, I am not a very huge fan of signature images in posts.
One reason for this is that we have a mobile version of the site, and cost for the visitor browsing that version of Esato would be increased a lot if every single post had an image included. The download time increases too. Today we don't even let the signature itself be displayed on Esato mobile. It is of course technical possible to remove the images on the light versions of Esato. If you visit this topic on Esato mobile at mobile.esato.com with our phone, a 8639 byte large page will show the 5 first post in this thread. Adding a signature in the five first posts increase the page size to over 33000 bytes.
The other reason why I don't like images in signatures is because I think it take away the focus from the written text. I leave Esato forum from time to time and visit other forums. And I find text-only forums more attractive than forums cluttered with signature images.
These are the reasons why you not are allowed to have images in the signature and some of you are trying to avoid this ruule now.
A better solution could be to add this information to the user profile page.

Thanks for the reply.
I do wonder though that if signatures are not shown on the mobile version anyway, how would images affect that?
I accept your preference on text only forums which is fair enough.
The idea of adding this to user profiles is interesting though, how would that work out? Would the images be shown in there are do you just mean adding text to read Trusted Trader etc?
Thanks,
Mik
Posted by laffen
Images could very well be shown in the profile page
Posted by MikLSP
Ah well that would be a good addition.
I'd like to hear what the other traders think about that...
Posted by PeterKay
Profile page would be ok, prefer it in the sig but we can't have everything!

I think ive only ever dealt in 8 Sales or trades lol
Pete bloomin heck,
too right you need your own shop
Good idea btw
Posted by PeterKay
only 8 sales!!! newbie
tis a great idea, well done Mik (again) top man
Posted by Miss UK
I don't own a shop Pete,
don't have as much phones as you
So I get the Trusted trader bar still then
Posted by MikLSP
Any comments please about the possibility of having these in your profiles?
Posted by Daedalus85
Sorry, dumb question here, felt the need to bring this thread up again.
I've tried putting the correct code in my sig many, many times, and it simply won't work, but if I edit one of my posts for some reason it will work, without me having changed anything.
Any suggestions?
Posted by masseur
Esato does not allow images in signatures and so thats why it dosn't work for you.
I think, for this special case, this rule might be being reviewed but I haven't heard anything specific lately about it
Posted by Daedalus85
lol, so basically these were made, only for us not to able to use them?
Lets hope the rule is changed, just for these anyway

click here and read carefully the entire page

Gotcha, thanks
Posted by MikLSP
laffen didn't suggest he would be changing the rules unfortunately but did suggest they may be added to user profiles.
For now I suggest keeping a copy of the code (I use the notes application on Operas side panel) and just paste it into your post when making it.
