Sony Ericsson is changing their philosophy of naming of thier phones. As you all know the R-series (Radio) R300 and R306 are examples of that.

So, I thought: Let's make a list of all the possibilities that has in alkman™series, Cybershot™ series and all the other series. It’s a long post but it is worthy! Here is the overview:

Series
Xperia series
Generation Web series
Cybershot series
Snapshot series
Walkman series
Radio series

Range/Class
9** = High end
8** = High end

7** = Mid end
6** = Mid end
5** = Mid end

3** = Low end
2** = Low end
1** = Low end

Successor
This will be the second number in the name. Example:
The *x*
The 'x' resamples the successor, so it will be '0' to '1' etc.

Formfactor
This will be the last number in the name.
**9 = Other formfactor
**8 = Clamshell
**7 = Clamshell
**6 = Clamshell
**5 = Slider
**3 = Slider
**2 = Candybar
**1 = Candybar
**0 = Candybar

not much of a change, only added sries and redesigned form factor coding have been changed. it's nice though. much easier to recognize phones.

SE has the biggest debate in all forums ...

SE is the only brand that their fans always looking more and more and more in all relative matters ....

Really it is cool that ppl always very hungary for small tiny pic or info from SE...

IMO SE always better from all brand including Nokia ..

Well Done SE!!!!!!

@mazi, you obviously haven't encountered any P990 (or UIQ3) threads...
Ever since loosing faith in SE over the P990 disaster, I've been doing some looking elsewhere and it seems from user experience that the Nokia N95 8GB is much better with regards to customer satisfaction than any model SE currently has. How things have changed since the days of the P900/910...

Posted by tranced
@makbil: cant you keep that feeling for you?

Formfactor
This will be the last number in the name.
**9 = Other formfactor
**8 = Clamshell
**7 = Clamshell
**6 = Clamshell
**5 = Slider
**3 = Slider
**2 = Candybar
**1 = Candybar
**0 = Candybar

W980 is a clamshell but according to that list its suppose to be a candybar.

All phones with the international version having an i at the end are phones using the old naming scheme !!
In this case the official name is W980i and not just W980 !

Posted by goosebuffz
is this naming scheme offical ??

Posted by tranced

S stands for Snapshot now.

Posted by goosebuffz
snapshot wtf are sony playing at
the is already the k series cybershot
and now c series cybershot

why would they have two different camera brands

a resevrse naming scheme would be confusing

eg 701k is a high end cybershot cyberbar

Posted by tranced
my bad then

Posted by goosebuffz
if they do bring out a snapshot series
they will be reciveing thearning emails from me

snapshot = chessy and slezzy

701k isn't an existing phone. It should be K701 then
