Hello.

I am new to this forum, and i have come to this forum, after a while of searching, phoning etc. to find someone who can help me with my very annoying, yet delicate (for me), issue.

Okay, so im going to come clean, i'm not sure if this is really appropriate for this site, but i have not many more places where i can turn, i've tried countless methods. So, i texted a company, by the number (removed). I contacted them for pornographic content. Not particularly proud of things like that, and i've had people like these eat my credit before, and this particular time its pretty bad.

It was all okay to start with. No messages off them, i wasn't really downloading anything. Browsing. Then my credit came to a low, due to the cost of the internet, so when i topped up £10, i was bombarded by text messages offering me pornographic content. I wasn't particularly suprised. So to stop them from texting, you text "STOP". And that's exactly what i did.

They said i had been removed, and i put on £5 to get me a little bit of credit at least, to be bombarded by texts again. It is a circular procedure. I put credit on, they take it, leaving me with about 50p to text with. I text stop, they carry on, etc. I've tryed to ring the company, which is always unavailable, i have Emailed, no response. I also contacted Vodaphone, they said they could do nothing but give me the details of the company. Which hasn't proved to be of much use.

Any ideas?

Why does'nt any one use the police these days?

Well, where im at, they dont do anything. So, is there anyone who would know how to stop them?

Can i block their number? I have a Sony Erricson W880i, if that makes the faintest bit of difference.

@Confidential

Really easy quick solution for you get a new PAYG Sim and text all your contacts your new number end of problem and really the only quick and effective way of resolving the problem. Also likely to cost you less in than long run.

If you don't find it to embarrassing do go to the Police and report it although i think it may be handled by one of the Telecoms regulators that deals with premium rate scams.

Thanks Marc. I have considered getting a new SIM. Though found that if there is a way to do it by text i wouldn't mind using the money.

Why on earth would anyone want to hand over there CC number for porn!! the net is ram packed full of free porn!!! (Not that I would know anything about that )

I think your only option is a new SIM.

do you not have the advertisement or w.e where you got this from, there may be small print with a different number to text the stop to

There has to be an 0870/0845 kinda number avaiible for the company..

Do you know who the company is? Opera? Mercury? there's loads bur if Voda have told you the number there has to be a answer or voice mail, if not, get on the blower to Voda, and tell them to file a complaint to OFCOM for you, tell them you've tried texting STOP to the number..

another way of stopping the service is reply "STOP ALL" to a message, that should stop all messages from that company coming to you, if they have sold your details on you may need to send a few Stop alls... but do it to 1 message first, and see if it stops any..

Alternatively, Voda should change your number for you free of charge... or as people have suggested buy a new SIM..

but try the "STOP ALL" first and see if that does anything.....

/I know the STOP ALL works on Orange

not with porn, but with other content i've had this problem. i found there was a different number i had to text to so that the charges stopped that was on the advert, only.

'stop all' might work, so would changing your phone number - although people would wonder why you've done this if you haven't got a new phone..

also, i'm pretty sure that if vodafone does nothing to help you they are breaking the law. they should cut them off at their end so that you don't have to pay them a single penny more (and potentially refund - altho i cant remember if they have to do this). they also should be reporting the rogue company to ofcom.

make sure you do something about it, even if you do end up getting a new payt sim. these companies shouldnt be operating at all, but especially like this.

@ Confidential.....if you wanna mail me the short code fella I'll try and find out the company and contact details for which the short code is owned (ii..e. Redrock own 40% or short codes in the UK and sublet them to third parties), but can remove ur number from the main database! My email address is: love69walrus@hotmail.com. Me :o)

another thing you may find is that when you had no credit the messages will be backing up on their system so even if u have sent the stop message these messages that were sent but not rcvd will come through until they are all sent.... depending on how long u left putting credit on this could be a while.

And Vodafone wouldnt be breaking the law by not helping you. YOU signed up to their services (P*rn service not voda) and you would need to contact them to stop the messages not vodafone.

Hope this clears up why they might not of stopped yet.

Just get a new sim card transfer the numbers to the sim card and then let you friends & family know your new number!

Because if like me you have had your phone number for 6/7 years and it's the easiest number in the world, why would you wanna change?

I'd also say make sure u turn Service Messages of to cos they contain links which if u click the end up costing u yet again. Best op is change ur Sim

Same thing happened to me few years ago on Orange pre pay. Instead of getting new sim i rang Orange cos it just would not stop and they changed my number withing minutes without charge. What was good was the new number only had 1 digit different. Anyway i learnt from that i never ever use any of them waste of money premium services or download rubbish at bloody 3.50 a pop. You can stop it its just a case of when the charging will stop and never do it again dont waste yer money mate.
