Hey guys, noob here!
I have read about 10 pages of the forum related to these phones and looking at the replies of owners of w610.k770i I still can't decide which one to choose.
The things that interest me the most are: camera quality, incoming/outgoing calls voice quality, bulit quality, durability and some more stuff i can't remember now due to over-reading the SE forums...too many factors.
- The phones in question are W610i and K770i. As far as i found out, the megapixels don't matter when it comes to cameras but such details as sensor size, lens etc. i.e. a 2.0 Mp camera CAN be better than 3.2 Mp camera qualitywise.
- music players of these phones are of no importance to me, but won't be too bad if the decision comes down to music capabilities.
- I've heard K770i camera problem (sharpness) can be fixed by using a proper firmware.
- I like the design of W610i better (orange), but then the violet K770i is kinda cool.
- I also do realize it's a late thread, especially when these phones were made way back in 2007 (feb-2007: w610 and Aug-2007: k770i) and discussed a lot, but i haven't found a thread that puts these two against each other.
If some ppl suggest something completely different, like the super famous W 800/700/710/810 or smth, then please don't, i've looked into those and find them not suitable for myself. but I would greatly appreciate the help of the ppl who own and know more about the phones i mentioned.
- Currently, I lean towards K770i. BUT there are things that I need to know absolutely for sure, like how fast are the phones when going thought menus and stuff?
- what happens most of the time when u drop one of these in a nasty way? (against pavement while riding a bike (hey, happens i alot in holland ait), throwing it towards the sofa from a distance of 3-4 meters in a softball kinda way and missing it or just plain dumb drop to the floor right from ur hands cuz u just ate a greasy fat chicken or smth)
- which one in your opinion will serve the longest, it's important because i'm not a phone changer, i can keep one phone forever till it disassembles or desintegrates (or rots away, doesn't matter) and till i can see the insides of the phone through the actual cover which initially was dark blue.
- I take most of my pics in summer and at night too (yeah yeah: "BUY THE W850, W800 NO, u bastard, BUY the W750"... but i can't, cuz i don't like those design-wise)
- video apparently doesn't matter to me any more, but it did matter in the begining before i found out that this Qfi-smth format is so outdated that it fades into nothing for SE users most of the time, so...
- does the camera on W610 get dirty or scratchy easily? how about the orange cover, does it turn to grey after a while?

For me i'll go for the K770 it has a better camera a little bit better on battery life and it takes very good pictures sounds good too the only thing i think the W610 has over it is the walkman player 2.0 and it may sound better and they are pretty durable both of them and video ain't that great for both of them.

Ok, the K770i beats out the W610i in all aspects apart from the media player, and in your opinion, looks.
The W610i is a Walkman phone, so it will (or should) play music better than the K770i, but the K770i is a Cybershot phone with a reportedly decent camera and it is newer and has more features. Plus if you are rough on your phone, or need a bit of durability, the K770i's camera cover will help!

for a walkman the w610 doesn't really sound that nice, no i havn't heard the w610 but i used the acoustics on my k800i and they rubbish for a walkman phone very poor low sound i'm sure the acoustics will sound exactly the same on the w610, the w610i has nice media player features could have nice sound but is let down by the acoustics, the k770 is the alot better phone.

I know you said you don't want the suggestion of other phons but can I suggest the T650i? It's pretty much identical to the K770i in terms of hardware and specs, but the build quality is premium and the light effects are to die for. I just received my K650i yesterday and I'm not regretting a second of it (I know it's possibly still early to tell). There isn't a single niggle I have with it unlike 99% of other phones I've played with. T650i all the way. You can pick one up on eBay for about £150.

@Ricky: trust me, man, i looked at every phone that revolves around K770i: w610, w810, k810 and k550i (also s580 and blabla all the slide phone) and also T650i. While searching for the perfect phone I obviously came across T650, which has almost identical features to K770i. It has that nice sleek aluminum casing and nice style, however, not the style i would go for, i say it's a bit simplistic, and my choice in the end really came to the design and i'm afraid K770i imho beats the design...but still thnx for the suggestion

@markmany: hey, thnx, yeah, i know the SAR values and according to my sources they seem lower than u showed...In any case, i can't be looking at such details, since i haven't heard of any serious cases of health problems because of high SAr values....so...

@markmanny: yeah, i've been through W880i vs w580, w610, w810 and to be honest in my case W880i was out of the choice pretty fast, since i just looked at the camera, the super slim desing didn't appeal much to me when i found out that it has no flash, no LED even, no radio, no infrared no autofocus...basically to slim it down SE seems to have gotten rid of these functions...AND, it was introduced in Q1 2007, which is between January and march of 2007..pretty old i would say...so go for K770i, as for me, i haven't ordered it yet, because i got some financial issues i need to take care of

K770 anytime. At least with that phone as well as a half decent music player you got the better camera and screen resolution too. Its a no brainer. Design is better too and has more features.

The K770 does not let you zoom in the normal photo mode which is annoying otherwise it's a good phone.

Well, digital zoom deteriorates the picture quality anyway. Which is why at full resolution, zoom is not possible. You might as well just take the picture at full resolution and then crop it yourself on the computer if necessary. And just to add, I'm not all that satisfied with my K770 having use a W810 and K750 previously. It lags a little and when I text too fast, some characters don't get captured. Also the keypad doesn't feel as good as my W810. Of course, in terms of features, the K770 is definitely superior and that is the reason I bought it. Overall, it's not brilliant, but above average I guess.
