Pakistan's attempts to block access to YouTube have been blamed for a near global blackout of the site on Sunday.
Google, the owner of YouTube, blamed the outage on "erroneous internet protocols", sourced in Pakistan
BBC News has learned that the nearly two-hour long blackout was almost certainly connected to Pakistan Telecom and internet service provider PCCW.
The country ordered ISPs to block the video-sharing website because of content deemed offensive to Islam.
The BBC News website's technology editor, Darren Waters, says that to block Pakistan's citizens from accessing YouTube it is believed Pakistan Telecom "hijacked" the web server address of the popular video site.

Details emerge on YouTube block
Pakistan has rejected claims that it was responsible for blocking global access to the YouTube video clip site.
YouTube was hard to reach this week following action by Pakistan to block access inside its borders for its hosting of a "blasphemous" video clip.
Analysis suggests the block was taken up by net hardware that routes data effectively cutting off the site.
But a spokeswoman for Pakistan's telecoms authority said the problem was caused by a "malfunction" elsewhere.

Oh come on now!
In my honest opinions so many Muslims seem to get offended over nothing. They have to live with it, as with every one else. There are some criminaly racist videos on youtube, but you don't see those nations governments wanting to block youtube.
They seem to be offended over little things but never to the real racists: The people who daily preach racism and blow them selves up. These are the ones who are really degrading Islam.
Don't get me wrong I respect everyone, but this hole Islam and offence is just getting boring and ridiculous.

If you want to know what the religion is about, go to the source and read the religious book of that faith.

The problem is not with Muslims, but the problem is with the whole world, just take a look at western media, any thing related to terrorism they suspect Muslims, and if not muslims, then arabs !!
you may say this is just politics, but hey even in hollywood and it's movies this is happening, you will say this is politics too ?
the western media especially US makes the world feel that the Muslims and Arabs are the No. 1 suspected in all crimes. if take a look at history you will see no reason why US has this strategy to make the world feel that, you even feel and believe that wich makes you think that Muslims are too offended for everything and for nothing too, I'm not blaming you, I'm blaming the US media and politics wich keeps putting Muslims and Arabs as the top most terrorism in the world, but just take a look in history, the new world comes infact with weak arabs that let European-Colonization make it's way to arabs, all current Arab contries comes from Colonization all in basic and clear, before colonization there was only one weak arab country and nothing other, so why US makes all this stuff againest Arabs and Muslims ??
there's too reasons
1- US afraid from Islam as a religion, having more muslims in US will change the way US is living to something US don't like at all. so they want to make Islam as a bad religion to make peoples stay away from Islam, even it's working in some way, but very little, infact there's a lot of statistics that proves this policy became one of reasons for increased number of peoples megerating to islam, just search for number of megeration to Islam before and after Sep. 11th and you will see what I mean.
2- US is trying to proof it's the biggest and strongest country in the world, this is done by tring to make weak country weaker and weaker unless they do what US want. for example, every Arab country that has good relations with Israel will have a very good support from US, even Bahrain this small country when Bahrain requested to have a free trade agreement with USA, USA requested to cancel the Israel paycot and close the Israel paycot office in Bahrain and open the trade line between Bahrain and Israel !!
in another hand; Syria, Iran, Iraq, Sudan refused this strategy, what's the results ? all in the black list of US, Iran is threatened by a war if not cancelling it's nuclear activity even there's nothing wrong about it, Iran want to have nuclear power to help them decrease the dependent on the vanished oil !! Iraq enters a war just coz US suspected of having Mass Destruction Weapons, but after the war and after billions of dollars that US citizen payed from taxes, nothing at all from these MDW claims !!

They just asked some ISPs here to block youtube to customers! It was still viewable on proxys. Amazing how quick they are to blame Pakistan. Idiots!

Hello!! it's cartoons and a teddy bear, i quite agree with PK and his links show how it SHOULD be, but why the west is frightened of SOME elements of Muslim behaviour is because thousands of radical muslims screamed for the beheading of an English teacher over something as innocent as the naming of a teddy bear. The west HAS a lot to be wary of if that behaviour is the norm in certain Muslim countries!!

Because we should not have to give a second thought to whether or not "it pisses Muslims off", our cultures are quite different, in the west the vast majority of people don't give a hoot about religion, but in some Muslim countries everything is run along religious lines, i agree 100% that in YOUR country you can have things exactly as YOU want, but you must understand that we are a secular society and are bound to act accordingly.
