OK guys, we'd better send back our X1's since T3 says they're "creaky and dated." Thanks for the info Nitro Fan

Not to me. As I've mentioned before, this is the best phone I've ever had... and I've been using this phone for almost 3 months now. I've convinced two of my friend to get X1, and both of them love the phone very much. BTW, all of us are newbie in Windows Mobile. (I switch from UIQ, my friends switch from A200 and S60).

I have a question. Anybody has any ideas...please help.

I'm using bluetooth stereo in my car (Venturi) and listening to the songs from my X1 everyday. I have voice command that will read sms or email.

If I use windows mobile player, the song will be paused when I have incoming message...and the phone will read the message to me through the car speaker and as soon as the message end, the song will be resumed. I love this feature very much as I can listen to the SMS/email while driving.

Everything is okay if I use windows mobile player.

However, with windows mobile player, you have to start the application first. So, everytime I enter my car, I have to start windows media player unless I leave the program running in the background.

I don't want to leave windows media player running in the background since it is a memory hogging application. It consumes a lot of memory.

I've tried Pocket Player, Pocket Music and Kinoma player. All of them cannot be started automatically (same as windows media player) and all of them will not pause when I have incoming message. What happened is both of the song and incoming message will be heard through the car speaker... (normally I can't hear the message because the song is louder).

Kinoma player doesnot support AVRCP, so I can't control the track.

Then, I've tried S2P (slide to play). This is the first media player that can automatically switched on when bluetooth is connected and can be set to automatically switched off when bluetooth is disconnected. (I like this feature).... But S2P will not pause the song when I receive a message.

So far...
I like S2P for the automatic switch on and off function.
I like windows media player for the pause when incoming message function.
...all of the other players consume very small memory compared to windows media player.

...all of them will pause the song when I have incoming call.

My question is...

Anybody know what can be done to other player so that they will pause when I recieve incoming message..and the phone will read the messsage through the car speaker.

...and how windows media player do that ? There is no setting in windows media player that will pause the song.

Maybe it is too much to ask....because I believe that you can't get everything.

Doministry,
I had to hard reset, because my X1 didnt like Gamelofts delivery method.
I tried to buy Abracadaball from them, but it didnt seem to want to download properley. Kept coming up with a Java problem, i think.
So, after getting a new link from tech support, i tried again. Still couldnt get the game, but my phone started misbehaving.

Thus, hard reset time.

I have a folder on my PC for all my CAB files, ready to transfer to my X1, and i also have several backups (SPB Backup), so it wasnt the end of the world.

Wish i knew quite why it blew a gasket over a java game, though.

i thought sony said there was going to be an update for the xperia by the end of 08...nd word is that the update is already finished..anyone kno wats going on

^ Well, I haven't got an X1 yet, but am still considering it. The reason is because from my experience I find WM 6.1 to be far too dated now. But if that problem is solved, then I will get one. There is a chance it will be solved, too. Eldar from Mobile Review said that he was waiting for the X1 to get a major software update in FEBRUARY before publishing a review of it. Also, we now know that Microsoft is planning a big WM based announcement at WMC in February. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that there could be a new OS round the corner, for X1. Or maybe a new SE device, we will see >D.

Maybe at some point WM 6.1 is dated,
but rather in the theory.
I practic, it gives the most.
It's really powerful and brings almost all you need.
The main thing needing upgrade is UI.
However I beg Windows NOT to make it look like all those iPhones/iPhone clones...

you know what i kinda like the fact that 6.1 isn't going in the direction all the other new mobile UI's are going...the UI needs an update definetly but like doministry said i hope they don't go down the iphone road nd they retain the ability to make ur device look the way u want it o..thats one advantage winmo has over most other UI's

Posted by Tigershark42
Yep, I agree with you. The functionality is there, better than anywhere else. But two core aspects of the whole system in my view are still not there, or still not completed. That is the ease of use (i.e. how intuitive the software is, making processes simple, easy and fast; does it look good? is it enjoyable to use? is it mundane to use?), and how solid and reliable the software is (is it ridden with bugs? Does it freeze up? Are there occasional problems with running programmes? Are there compatibility issues?). To me, that is where WM falls flat. That's just an opinion based on my own use of it, really.

So in that sense, I would expect it to become far more like the sort of iphone UI which is simple and fast to use. But I know what you mean, noone wants it to become a UI clone. I don't think it will at all. But now returning from the slightly OT, I see it as a pretty crucial time where we could be on the verge of a potentially far better WM OS in a number of ways. That and there is increased competition, now from Palm (and I think the Pre outdoes nearly anything on the market now in certain ways, including hardware implementation). So for me it's very worth waiting untill WMC. Who knows, we could even see another X1 showstopper announcement.

anyone can confirm if we can used the x1 with tv-out?

Posted by mobilemodman
yeh I think there are quite a few aspects that can be improved at the moment. the Panels interface is still slow and buggy. Have to soft reset the device every now and then [too often]. and I think the touch screen sensitivity needs to be increase. Also there are a whole list of other things that need to be improved. [perhaps a program to customize the LEDS would be great, or even to use the LEDS as a visualization to music play]. But overall I feel it is a fairly stable device compared the hickups that were experienced during the P1i and esp the P990i launches [bugs took almost a year to fix!].

SO I finally got my X1 today , exciting stuff! But I'm having a few problems transfering my contacts from P990 to the X1. When I sync my P990 with Outlook, for some reason it does not get all the information on contacts, specifically those with more than 1 mobile phone number! Is there a way around this or is this a windows mobile problem?

It's a general Windows problem.
First of all - Outlook does not see all of the numbers.

Secondly, even if WMobile supports many many telephones in your contacts, they have a different label.
So, this idiotic software does not rewrite your existing phones to new cathegories but leaves them, not copied.
It ended like some of my contacts were copied without any telephone number.
Looks like the great ability of adding as many telephones as you want on UIQ was like an dead end - nowhere else supported...

I have to Bluetooth my contacts individually from my P1 to my X1. It copied all the information across fine, but obviously this isn't that practical if you have loads of contacts.

doministry, no I'm not kidding. As I said in my post, it's not practical if you have loads of contacts. I only had 30-40 as the rest were on another Sim card.

Does anyone's X1 suffer from lock-ups, particularly when updating the RSS feeds on the 'today panel'?
I have to reboot my X1 once or twice a day, sometimes I have to remove/insert the battery to get it going again

Posted by melk
Did any of you experience the cracks in case that XDA Developers are talking about? Or the plastic near the d-pad starting to peel off?

Posted by iainkane
Ok got my X1 today which is all very exciting!!!

I've got the contacts sorted, email sorted and starting on music and then software. I've been on the net and got a few, key apps so far are

Flash 3.1
Bluetooth switcher
Facebook

So which are the apps people who have had their X1 a little longer recommend? Which navigation software do most people use? I was looking at TT Nav 6.

Honestly I don't use built in RSS but a free pRSS Reader which is great.
My phone locked up once, I use it HEAVILY for 3weeks now.

No cracks here, but peeling of yes.
As for apps, guys, go to
www.inxperia.com

Also, at xda-developers, at the X1 section, is a STICKY topic with
all the hacks and enhancements.
As for me, I don't use so much 3rd party as I did before....
But there's tons of apps.

Get GoogleMaps 2.3. And definitely Flash, YouTube...
Also for roaming - NoData.
And for a full backup on your SD card SpriteBackup....

Thanks for the help dominstry, I'll check them out and see what there is. Are there a lot of other panels out there?

Out where?
What SE did is all on SE site.
On XDA you'll find YouTube, different Spb and TouchFlo (I don't use any of them...)
So basically NOT many.

So what's up with ROM upgrade for X1??
Starts to be strange this device did not see ANY upgrade since launch! HTC devices got few of them, even the ones released later!

Posted by BigFeat
I'm still waiting for SE to provide some ROM updates. I haven't taken the step to patch it with any cooked ROMs yet until I find the bugs to be overwhelming.

I am the case, I had a crack near stulus holder and colour from my d-pad started to peel of, so I had to give it to servise centre.

Hi! Where did you get flash? I tried one but didn't work. Just made the phone freeze. It's the one thing that my phone's missing. Much obliged!

cheers!:-)

Posted by bloob
Well, don't quote me, but SE might be waiting to push out Windows Mobile 6.5 rather send out another dodgy ROM or patch.

Posted by mkouk
on XDA devs it has been reported that new ROMs are out on the EMMA apparently...

yep, but no generic UK yet

there's something happening on SEUS too as it just identified my X1 for the first time ever, though it said there was no update available

hmm i never had a problem with SEUS identifying my X1i but no updated version of the Generic_UK ROM there yet either...it is strange that SE has released an updated ROM for the Vodafone branded handsets though and not a generic one!

Posted by mobilemodman
apparently the new Vodafone UK ROM works if you flash it over your Generic UK X1 . . . I havent tried it yet tho, I'm having a feeling that after I flash it and go through the hassle of reinstalling everything someone is going to cook up a WM6.5 ROM or something [already happening over at xda-developers btw]

Posted by mattiL
I have used SE update to update my swedish X1, I now have the following version:

ROM ver 1.03.936.6
Rom date 12/09/08
Radio ver 1.10.25.18
Proto ver 52.56.25.29U
Ext. ver 1.0.32167.11424

Prog-ID 1213-2274
Prog. ver R2AA006

SE update says I have the latest version (it lies..) when starting the update, but I still performed the update and now I have the latest version.

Still missing handwriting recognition though...

Posted by Indiandawg
this is a master piece from sony ericsson. absolutely amazing. i bought xperia today and am very happy with it

Posted by marran
@mattiL
Does the new version bring any noticeable differences?

Posted by mattiL
@marran

Don't really know yet, but it feels quicker when shifting portrait to landscape mode.
Think there's a new "Google search" feature on one of the panels (classic style Today panel), at least I can't remember it from before.

According to xda-dev the bluetooth turning off bug is fixed, hope so cause it was really annoying.

Opera is supposedly updated to.

But still no handwriting for swedish xperia.

Posted by marran
okey thanks.

I read somewhere that the swedish xperia won't support handwriting input. But you can install the original program just as easy as any other program.
I did so.

Posted by michael the mage
Anybody has had luck on SEUS yet? I get only 'no update available'. No option if I want to flash anyways.

Posted by mobilemodman
Apparently the new ROMs have
- bluetooth fixed
- updated Opera
- faster switching screen orientation
- fixed panel lag when switching between landscape and potrait
- overall system speed increase

hopefully someone at xda-dev cooks up a R2A lite ROM, removing half the unused crap [error reporting, windows help, welcome center, etc] would make the ROM operate much faster.

I really hope SE improves on the media panel, I miss having good old walkman + esp equalizer functionality

And I really look forward that SE will bring a Zoom (I know digital!) to the 3MP camera. That is ridiculous as it is. Don't understand why not more people complain about that. The camera with all its crap is just crap, and that in such an expensive camera phone!

Posted by mattiL
Yes, it is strange that there is zoom for the lower resolution modes but not for 3MP.

And by the way, if you have seen my post above, I succeded to update my swedish phone with SEUS. But I don't know if it works for you (US X1a?).

Posted by michael the mage
Well, actually that zoom thing was like this on the V800 and then after an upgrade and the SE unit Z800, they made the zoom available in all pic sizes. I mean its just digital anyways but it appears to me like this is not even with low, low end camera phones anymore. In my opinion SE has shown again with this alone, they SUCK big time!

As to the SEUS, there is no generic UK yet so I cannot flash and upgrade! But I cannot even REflash. Perhaps after they have put out the first firmware then that will become available. I rather flash via SEUS then those 'home cooked' rom flashes. Don't know if after such a home rom flash, SEUS would still work.

Let's cross fingers that SE will put out the generic UK n o w !

I do recommend to visit http://www.what-is-better.com to check worldwide comparing sony ericsson to others. The result is not so bad for soneric.

What are the chances the next ROM update will be 6.5, Mobile Internet Explorer 6, update Opera, and built in Flash 3.1?

Posted by BigFeat
With Windows Live Email account, is there anyway to change the "Reply From" email address on the handset? The Windows Live website allows me to utilize an alternate email addresses to set as my default 'reply from' address. However, the handset only has the default Win Live logon ID as my reply address. I don't see any selectable email options at all. Is this a limitation or a bug of Win Live on the X1 handset?
