haptic feedback from the touchscreen?

having a think about the time before the announcement.

We knew would have WM phones some time this year, and knew that Xperia was a new range....

Surprisingly, no one mentioned/or guessed anything about these much further apart from when they were first discussed.

I mean, when it was announced, i was like, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah, forgot about about xperia and wm..................

What if Samsung and Nokia, out of their amazement with X1, suddenly released press statements advertising the first Xperia phone? How would it go like? (just a hypothetical scenario hehehe)

Imagine...
a phone so simple yet so powerful.
With minimal design but with maximal features inside.

Imagine...
a phone that bridges the gap between business, recreation, leisure and communication. Connecting people has never been this easy, fun and converged.

With a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, its not that hard to imagine..

Xperia: Open up to a Whole New Mobile Experience.
See newer. Hear newer. Feel newer.

yup mate. these are great times for us lovers and for themselves.
X1 will be one (if not the only one) of the most talked about handsets for 2008. (mr dicky will not commit the mistake had in p990 imo)

excess: PK says wait till we see p5. i guess so handsets will be the most talked about this year

Mib, what's to prefer? Personally I'd go for the X1, seeing that the resolution is better, it makes much more use of the display for showing movies in today's standard (1920 x 1080 pixels HD, resized to 800 x 450 pixels). It's obvious that the 1:1.77 movies don't do good on the N95.

Everything has been calculated and created to fit the relations between the displays. The N95 video picture has also been enlarged (it would be more in real life!) by Photoshop, and has thereby been improved. It would be a lot worse in real life.

But X1 resolution is 800 X 480 pixels, am i wrong?
800/480 = 1.66

so those movies should resize to 800x480 not 800x450.

EDIT:

Ok, 1.66 is more near to 1.77 than 1.33(320/240).

WOW videos will look FANTASTIC on the x1!

Posted by Mizzle
Indeed! And remember that this "preview" has been downscaled quite a lot. They'll look even more brilliant on the X1.

DVD quality videos do look awesome.

I agree with you that wide screen video is bigger when displayed on X1. However, if I am not mistaken, the X1 record video in VGA which may not fit the screen nicely. Same with photo resulting in smaller viewing size.

Yep, you're right on that

This phone is too big, even more than the w960i.
Definetly a bidnezz phone and not my taste.

It is actually very small as it has a fold out keypad!

The length of the phone appears to be similar to the K800i, and it doesnt appear anywhere near as chunky as the I phone or N95.

Its a winner in terms of Size to features!

FULL KEYPAD ZOMG!

iphone n chunky:-? ???

I really like the looks and style of the X1 and it comes with everything and more then i would require from my phone, the only thing that i thought would be different is the camera which i expected to be 5mp since its to be there new flag ship phone but i guess the difference is negotiable and i prefer my DSLR over camera phones anyway. I can see the X1 being a big thing in the way of SE vs Nokia although no doubt they will have something to out do the n95 on the horizon and if not the press release of the X1 will have them working on something so i guess we can just wait and see but either way us as the consumer will win out in the end

How about widescreen movies? As most are, these days...

pretty much.. it comes down to whether you would want a 42 inch 16:9 tv or a 42 4:3 tv

SE's headed in the right direction with this screen imo... but blah the screen is recessed... why isn't it flush with the front of the phone...

@londonlad123

I really don't see how you can say that SE starting to use WM is not using a competitors OS as of course it is, SE owns 50% of UIQ which is the UI they use over Symbian OS. using WM is using a competitors OS plain and simple there is no way to claim anything else.

I would of been far more impressed if the X1 was due to launch in a couple of month rather than the 8-9 months they are quoting as the spec by then will not be as great as it is today. I also would of been much more impressed if we had seen more than the 9 panels and the 3 views they give which is all any of the demonstrators have been able to show. It appears the X1 is even further behind the S60 Touch UI as although that is still a work in progress appears far more advanced and is due to release around the same time if not earlier than the X1. Which could lead to an interesting competition between the devices when launched especially if the S60 Touch UI uses the OMAP 3 Chip as expected.

At the end of the day the more devcies and competition should hopefully mean better devices for us the user what ever our choices are.

Marc

I agree. I was hoping this would be flush. Recessed screens collect too much dust.

600 - 700 euro.

@Dogmann

check out the screenshots of the nokia touch UI.. over at mobile review..it looks kinda blah... hope they get it going soon though..

in fairness the xperia is not really about windows mobile.. it can be on any OS.... at least that was how it was described..

i'm stil hoping for an xperia device based on the new UIQ...to be announced...soon.

It's Wednesday!

Nothing?

This is going to be like how the P990 thread. One year of speculation,rumour,hype,let-down,bashing,praising,moaning ect Its very funny.Go Xperia.I like the fact that S60 can be found in Nokia's,Samsungs and LG's and UIQ in SE and Moto's and Windows Mobile in HTC's,Moto's and now in SE.This mish mash makes things very interesting indeed. The Mobile world is hotting up.Its so exciting.

In comparison with other SE devices it's "cheap". The w960 price in France? 540€ - 650€ (http://www.amazon.fr/Sony-Ericsson-T%C3%A9l%C3%A9phone-app-photo-Bluetooth/dp/B0011ZJLYE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=gateway&qid=1202922895&sr=8-1)...

i think that se should definately start to put more reasonable price tags on their phones. I wouldn't be too surprised if w980 will actually be at least as expensive as w960 ! about 550 euros

If people are paying it then they wont reduce it

Posted by BobaFett
what the reason actually to have more os in 1 device? i mean, i dont wanna "suffer" with 65k screen when i have uiq and i still prefer to have 2 fones ( a wm and a uiq or symbian os ) instead of one. the idea is interesting, but imo we all have a real picture of this solution, when its out. guess they have to test it really long before they launch it...

It's not out yet, and it most likely won't be until Microsoft officially announces the platform, it's running

Plankgatan is here WOOHOO! Go plank! Go plank!

People that arent impressed with this phone have something wrong with them. Get off esato and go find a Nokia forum. Nokia will have NOTHING as good as the Xperia. They are releasing the N96... Wow, reskinning the N95, talk about innovation!

Posted by >500
ok before it gets out of hand, lets not start a fan war please!

end it there. Lets keep the chatter about the X1..... sure you can compare the phone to Nokia, in a 'civilised' manner...... but bashing wont help!

he he he... N95/N96 looks like a piece of plastic garbage compared to this "full metal jacket" super designed phone

Before the fanboys start celebrating lets read this from the front page article of this site:

HTC
There has been roumors that X1 is a HTC device. Comment on this? SE: There are so many number of players in the game. We do have ODM partners, including Asian partners. Can't comment if HTC are involved.

HTC did manufacture it.

Posted by >500
does it matter who manufactured it?

We all knew HTC were sent orders from to develop them WM phones........ Though, i dont think had ZERO input into decision making/ideas for this phone!

I'd like to know what HTC was responsible for. My guess is just did the design/housing, camera, screen, 9 panel thing (or is that htc's?) maybe speakers? In other words, i think did the multimedia part!
