For some reason my panels don't work anymore. On start-up I get an error message re: not found or trusted certificate and when pressing the panel button I get:

PanelManager.exe not found!! Please install PanelManager or check the registry settings.

Anyone know a fix. If not how do I back up my contacts and all text messages so I can reset the phone?

How do you plan to reset the phone? Do you mean to re-flash the rom? I am asking this cause some time ago, I did some kind of mistake and deleted the camera EXE file. After that of course the camera button couldn't work properly. I fixed it by flashing the bios files through SE update service.
Anyway, be careful if you plan to do the same, and find a PC with windowsXP cause SE update service stops in some systems with windows vista 32.
There are many programs out there for back up and restore. I used to do backups with SPB Backup , but the I found that SKTools is more flexible and reliable.

To all Xperia owners: Check this out http://www.imarche.net/omnia/fullpacks.php

Settings/system/clear storage did it for me. Used a back-up utility and then activated this. Phone was restored to original. Panels now work

Is there a way to totally backup the memory of the X1 in order to do a restore later on ?

I mean, is there a way to do it without third party apps ?

If not, what app is best at this ?

Also black x1 users what is color of the backside of the phone. Is it back or silver?

The black version is with metal accented front and back with silver keypad. The silver version is metal accented silver all round with silver keypad

CRACK ON X1

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447211&page=2
read the post #19

Is it true that the silver versions are cracking more than the black one?

Also the color on keys under the screen fading off.

Posted by mobman
i think mine is the only case of the paint coming off the keys under the screen. However there does seem to be a few examples of the case cracking near the stylus holder - not sure why it would only be the silver ones tho?

Posted by masseur
reading the thread at xda developers, they say that the black ones have a rubber part surrounding the stylus silo whereas the silver ones have plastic. not sure if thats correct though

Posted by WhyBe
People who own the silver X1's have more aggression

Posted by the_mont
Goddamn it!

After reading this and the thread on XDA-Developers, I closely inspected my X1 and.... it has a micro-crack in the casing where the stylus is!

I must admit I didn't notice until now, and I had to look "extremely hard" to see it, as my X1 is black.

That said, it is tiny & it doesn't extend down the casing, so I'm not too unhappy. Like I said didn't notice it before and had to shine a light on it to see. C'est la vie...

So my X1 will not be going back, I'm just hoping it passes the "bounce-ability" test, if it happens - as we all drop phones at some stage. I've dropped it on my carpet (so soft landing), and I usually only drop each phone once, so hopefully that's the end of that, lol. I have insurance, but by the sound of people without one - supply is in short demand STILL!

Chris

I dont know about more aggression, I bet they are certainly more Pi88ed off!!!

Given how loud Sony Ericsson shouted about how this is a "Premium" device made from "quality" materials (you will remember the web cast) like a business suit with a "fun" lining.

Anyone who has shelled out hard earned money on this device, that will usher in a new dawn at only to find it is a poorly built as their previous "Flagship" models must be livid! (I certainly would be!) clearly "metal" is the same as Vodafone's "unlimited"

I am sorry for the people who paid good money for this thing, but so glad I waited and good job too by the looks of it.

you do not listen and you do not learn! BUILD THEM PROPERLY

Hi Guys,
I haven't read the entire story yet about the X1.
I got my X1 Silver today and it's a really pice of shit. The menu is crapy but maybe I'm used to more user friendly phones such SonyEricsson Walkman and iPhone.
Windows Mobile do not work with Windows Server 2003 NTLMv2 network and Exchange 2007.
I talk to Sony Ericsson support and they just say. It should work. I give them error codes but I don't get any support at all.

I strongly don't recommend this phone.
I will give it 1 week of test. So if I don't get the phone working. Does anyone wanna buy my phone. I probably sale it for $100 USD + DHL/UPS cost unlocked so I have enough money to buy a new iPhone.

If you know any good whitepapers, KB, howto guides or anything that could be any help please email me ASAP. My email is issen007@hotmail.com

The only good thing I can find about it, is that I can copy music and pictures from my Linux Laptop without to download any cracking software or special plugins for Banshee software.

Ciao
Christian

Hi Mate,
Drop me an email in the next 5 business days and ask me how things are going.
If I still haven't got the freaking phone working, I will talk to SonyEricsson if they can buy it back. If not it's ours for $100 USD.
You can call from it and send SMS but it not working as a business phone with Exchange 2007 and Windows Server 2003 NTLMv2 Domains.

/C

What's that saying about if it seems to good to be true.....

then give it a try?

Posted by MyP910
I don't about others, but to me from day to day I like this phone more and more. I've never this satisfied with mobile phone.

by the way, the optical touchpad is awesome. the combination of the touchpad, dpad and the keyboard is very useful. I think this is one of the smart features of this phone.

I'm posting this comment from xperia

Hi... im just wondering if its just me... or everyones x1 has this problem...

You mught notice that i could me some kind of "perfectionist-maniac" xD... but its kinda bothering me when i look at the greatest screen and i notice its not centered and not even parallel to the phone...

Is this because of some kind of configuration? because i "aligned" the screen 2 times, but i think it could be the hardware :S

well... check out my picture here...

and you can realise what i mean... i measured everything with a vernier... so its exactly what it is for real.

Is this valid for a guaranty?? :S

Thanks,
I knew it. I always believe the Xperia screen was incredible.
You finally confirmed that the XPeria is really UNIQUE.
It's the only screen that is not a rectangular but a parallelogram!

I am still confused. The black as well as the silver are cracking. But is it that the silver are facing more problems? Is that true?

The WinMO is all crap as most of the ppl say and then now even the so called good build quality, the harware is also giving up. The minute crack is still fine but the color fading off in less than a month. Thats sad.

I mean you pay for the costliest phone in the market and then you get this.

I still want to be convinced that its not all that bad because I want that phone. Waiting for reviews from ppl.

Regards

Posted by shamuloco
LOL!

well... its not actually a parallelogram... as you can see... its really rectangular, but according to my calculator... its 4.3 degrees under the X axis...

thats why its rotated a little bit :S

i hate that!! lol...

Posted by prideful
Despite all the bad talk that's going around, I've been really satisfied with my purchase. 650 USD, and no real issues in build or hardware at all. WinMo is pretty shit though, but after installing touchFLO and alot of modifications, it's really gotten to be a pretty damn good mobile. Still working on the kinks though, don't mind it though

Posted by nycdemons
@prideful, where did you buy for 650 USD. I've been wanting to get one as well, but the prices are so high ~ $800

Posted by Residentevil
I like to know that as well.

Posted by molecule
Hmm!

We should start a thread which should have links to the "must install" applications for the X1 before making it worth using.

It would be really helpful.

here's one that probably fits

Xperia games and program-downloads thread

There is a new panel out. A Facebook one

Posted by Jabe
after reading the thread, I have a few questions:
- why is it mainly the silver ones that get cracked? Is it because most people bought silver, difference in material around stylus (although there's a guy with a black one that has a crack), a lot of sytlus usage in terms of taking the stylus out under a certain angle and causing the casing to crack on its weakest point? I am trying to determine wheather this can be prevented if I limit the stylus usage on minimum and take it it out gently.
- for how long have the people with the problem had the phone? Are the phones affected from the first batch or does it not matter?
- and another one unrelated to casing breakage - how many of you are noticing the discoloration (paint coming off) of the keys under the screen.
- what is the SE policy (if any) if it comes to it. do they exchange phones or send you on your merry way?

I must admit, when I first read the thread I was devastated. On of the main reasons I chose this WM phone over any other was build quality, now I just don't know anymore.

My silver one hasn't cracked.

Posted by mrmilo69
It could be a case of wear and tear on the stylus holder, i've only used my stylus 3 times on the phone, each to calibrate the screens when i've debranded and done a hard reset for it, never had any other use for it unless i want to use the built in virtual keyboard

Hmm. You've never heard of "tempting fate", have you?

"Pride comes before a fall"? Ring any bells?

Perhaps you're touching wood - I think you'd better be!

Whatever.

The Facebook panel ROCKS! It has to be one of the best panels yet.

Finally Facebook panel. It is realy good one. Well done job.

Posted by ricster2000
Does the facebook panel not "hang" the phone for anyone else? I can use it fine, but then when I press the panel button, the phone seems to lock up....

Posted by Mizzle
It works excellently here. You'll need an active Internet connection in case you didn't know

Works perfectly here too. I am impressed

Not really finding a great deal, but using ebay live.com 25% discount. Saved 200 dollars off my purchase

I'm a Linux/Unix man using a windows phone.......
And owner/user of p800, p910, p990 & X1, need more reassurance ?

Sure it has SW bugs and HW problems like weak plastic frames, but
if you can live with windows mobile then you will have no problems.
(better than samsung i780 and the likes)

I love toys.
