Odd. Mine feels like they're in metal. Hmm, don't know if this has anything to do with mine being a hardware prototype. Doubt it, though.

Just a short time ago when I had connection problems on my N95, turned out to be a network problem.

It's all working now.

I emailed our sales lady & explained that a colleagues SIM worked but mine did not & they are on the same price plan. Explained I can't see how it can be a handset problem. It's either a SIM or a Network problem in my view.

She agreed, contacted a higher level in technical, asked them to compare the settings for the two SIM's and they found that, think it was APN was not active on mine so they switched this on.

Ten minutes later and it was fixed.

Thanks to all here for the pointers too.

Thanks I did miss that, I am going to see if I can get my hands on an X1 next week and satisfy myself. I am out of commitment with T-Mobile on the 19th and I have just seen that Expansys ae offering the X1 on T-Mobile, I assume that as T-Mobile are NOT going to be selling the X1 these will be unbranded SIM free units!

I was under the impression that the keys were supposed to be metal is this NOT the case?

the qwerty kets are indeed made out of plastic. they have the same metalic paint as the rear of the phone (not the battery cover) . i like it this way because otherwise they wouldn't have been able to light up the letters on the keypad...

Super review. Just one question. Is it possible to type fast and convenient by putting the phone on the table - laptop simulation, or you have to hold it in hands in order to use keyboard?

It is released in Dubai as X1 without any prefix neither X1i nor X1a, it is 850/900/1800/1900 is it in line with Europe release?

Hi hghaly,
Those numbers are GSM bands. They are universal in any phone.
Check the UMTS bands in settigs. or even better, look at the sticker in the box.

Hi all just some more questions regarding windows mobile.

can i change the default folder that the phone goes to(currently my pictures on My device) when i go to view my pictures within the pictures app in media folder of spb panel? (not when using the media panel)

Is it possible to make it so beamed items are stored in memory card and not defaulted to my device?

I would also really like to know how you guys would recommend to set up your files on the storage card? e.g. would you recommend setting the folders up like they are in my documents as default on the device?

its just that everything seems geared towards storing media on the device itself. but obviously this isnt going to work out when i have alot of media

answers much appreciated, thanks

It's not as comfortable as it could have been, but it's doable.

My X1 is a prototype. This is the one in the pictures and all screenshots are from this device. The review is partly based on this prototype unit, as well as Paul's unit that was a commercial unit.

Well, the only important thing is tha the Dubai providers use 900 or 1900 or 2100 for its 3G network.

If they do, you are ok because that what the European X1 has. And tht'a the only version currently available in the market.

I tried to buy it from Handango UK and from the US site, and both times it told me that MS Voice Command is not available for sale in my country (which is Australia). I wonder why that is? Accents? It would explain why there is a UK version and a US version.

I could give it a fake address, or the address of one of my English relatives, but do I want to? Will it not work?

Grr.

The actual 15-digit IMEI No. should be the one under your battery, while *#06# and Device Information should both report a 17-digit number, which consists of the IMEI No. + 2-digit suffix (usually 01 or 02).

@myth, would you know what the suffix 01 and 02 means?

No, all I know is that it may vary depending on your ROM (on TYTN II at least).

No, you have bluetooth and USB for that..

Actually this is a WM phone - who says you can't copy via wifi? I use Total Commander on my WM dcevices - it includes a LAN browsing facility that functions perfectly over wifi. I regularly use it to copy music etc from my file server onto the device, or to copy photos etc to the file server.

With WM, never say no until you've explored all the options People have to stop treating the X1 like an SE feature phone

Posted by myth®

@max

That might be possible, cause, as you said, almost everything is possible on WM, but I think that this is still no option for the average user, as I believe that additional software and/or special configuration of the PC would be required.

Posted by max_wedge
So what? That's the whole point of WM. Any "average user" can install software - it's not a geek thing.

Anyway it can be done with the native file explorer, http://www.pocketpccentral.net/help/browsewlan.htm

but in my view Total Commander does it much better, that's why I mentioned it.

The fact is that most normal WM users are WM users BECAUSE of the third party support that WM offers. If someone buys an X1 and then complains that it can't do something out of the box, that is available with the simple addition of free third party software, that to me is simple bloody-mindedness.

how about you change the setting in your X1. if you go to settings-connections-USB to PC , you can select your USB connection type either Activesync or disk drive.

Living in Manchester do you really need a weather forecast, simply knowing what time it is due to start raining would be sufficient surely?

I'm having the same problem with the weather updates, but with Newcastle Upon Tyne. Every other city seems to work fine and updates correctly....wonder what the issue could be.

how do i get my pics, music, videos and contacts on the media xperience panel? the first few days i had the phone it was showing my contents found on my memory card, however after a few days it would only show the predefined items from the device folders. please help. thanks

Posted by DexterMorgan
For some reason my panels don't work anymore. On start-up I get an error message re: not found or trusted certificate and when pressing the panel button I get:

PanelManager.exe not found!! Please install PanelManager or check the registry settings.

Anyone know a fix. If not how do I back up my contacts and all text messages so I can reset the phone?

i recently got my x1 (silver ) and i've reset it once (through system) and just want to know if anyone else has a bit of lag (its not smooth) when opening up the panel menu.

if so, is there anyway to get around it tomake it smooth?

are there any firmware updates available?

also, my contacts are on my sim card and the names are unjumbled, how can i sort the contact names (as you can't edit sim card names :S)

thanks.

1. When you say lag, do you mean just when opening the panel? If so, yes that's normal, but hopefully will improve with updates & time.
2. Depends on who you're with, if Vodafone, be careful as it probably won't work - yet. If not check out the SE website.
3. There are a number of programs that can help. XperiaTweak (http://www.cliffords.nu/) has a host of useful facilities, include a contact sorter. I used "contact changer" (www.shubaroo.com) to sort my 500+ contacts.

Regards,
Chris

you mean to say you have a silver x1 but it has a black behind. somethings wrong. Cause the reviews clearly showed silver behind for a silver phone.
