Hi all

Well my maths is not as good as it should be so i will leave the calculations to the genius amongst us but all i can tell you is that Video encoded in Mp4 h.264 @ 800 x 352 pixels in 16 million true colors on my E90 is indeed stunning and that's now. Unfortunately it looks like we will have a long wait to see how the 3" X1 Screen compares to it even with the extra 128 extra pixels although only 65k colours.

I thought you said you would be the first to congratulate SE when they start using the latest tech.

Well i still have another 8-9 months to wait then don't i? and i actually meant in UIQ as never envisaged after purchasing UIQ they would then start selling the competitions OS instaed. So far from the lack of HSDPA in the G series it looks like they are still using the Nexperia chip in UIQ. Lets hope tomorrow brings some better and more exciting news, we can but hope for now.

That'll give you plenty of time to prepare then. I wouldnt say WM is the competitions OS, SE are just trying to break into new markets where uiq hasnt reached and also the us where wm is big. Have to agree that the g series is plain boring, even pointless.

hey guys...anybody know if the keyboard lights up when open. it'll be kinda hard to text at night. just wondering...

I'm wondering about WM6 and battery life. Although I realize it's a samsung I had a Blackjack 2 for all of two days, and while the battery life was supposedly increased over the older blackjack model, with moderate use it required recharging daily. Checking emails a lot and surfing the web twice a day.

It'll probably work like a lot of other HTC devices with a light sensor on the front of the phone so if the ambient light is low, the keypad lights come on.

Battery life should be fine unless SE brand it with rubbish. I flash custom Windows Mobile images to Operator-branded devices all the time. The Orange version of the XDA Exec (SPV M5000) has pitiful battery life, but when flashed with a cooked ROM, the difference is unbelievable.

Most battery issues in Windows Mobile are down to what the operator installs either in the ROM or the extended ROM.

Posted by deepsme
The best i've seen of battery life..for a smartphone with similar features is the HTC Touch Cruise with Talk time upto 7h and stand-by 450h..hopefully this beats it..

Usually SE are good on this front but again this is WM6 WM6 WM6...

you mean the panels? here are some, courtesy of Mizzle i don't think SE has shown more than this,
http://blog.se-nse.net/2008/02/12/a-look-at-xperia/

@all
please stop comparing the x1 with the iphone or the n95 it makes no sense since those are already in the market for months and the x1 will not hit the market until late this year. so we should be looking more at HTC new devices, n96, iphone2 , etc... those would be the real competitors.

Ppl let's not be blind about the X1, I understand the fuzz about it but we should try to provide more objective opinions.
As i have said before there are already a few devices in the market with similar or better specs than the x1, imagine what the market would be like by the end of this year and try to picture our x1 there would he have a chance?

that's what i was thinking but wasn't fo sure. thanks. only disappointing thing now is the wait.

Posted by londonlad123
My main problem with this phone is that SE are going to make the same mistake as all the other WM manufacturers trying to create a finger based UI. That is too much finger unfriendly WM UI is left in there.

SE needs to create its own interface for contacts, calender, media player, IE, messaging, file browser, Phone app, Programs folder and especially Settings menu.

The Settings menu in WM is the worst imo, having to tick 'beam' on and off etc. X1 should look nothing like WM except for msn messenger, ms office, the homescreen and being able to run wm apps. Thats it.

To be honest, I dont think they'll manage it.

It seems SE dont have any chance if true:

No pb, it's like for AMD or Intel processor, there is one family name (or more), and also different speed ! it's not because you have a Core 2 Duo that all have same frequency, so, it's not sufficient to say it's same speed...

PDA_DB's info is not 100% reliable, FYI. Take it with a rather sizable grain of salt.

Posted by _vAmpiRe_
Yes... But anyways... It is stated on their site (yeh, i know.. not really trusted) that X1's camera don't support macro-mode?!? I really hope that's not true... I really enjoy taking real close-up pics (not in the filthy way though)

Posted by Mizzle
When there's auto focus, there's also macro, so don't worry. Regarding the processor, it's a 500+ MHz one.

G900 doesnt have HSDPA???

How pointless. So this is the only next gen model from with HSDPA and wifi.

I believe I read that the 65k colour screen is due to the limitations of windows mobile, but I would also have expected 16m on this device.

Posted by MYB87
with the G series they are just trying to get the most of the old hardware that are left from the old UIQ3 devices

Posted by Bhavv
They could have left the old hardware for lower end phones and put both HSDPA and Wifi on the G900. Problem is that the Xperia might be too expensive for me, even though its exactly what I want.

Man, that guy (SE's Steve Jobs) is awesome. People were obviously a bit sceptical of what SE had released, but he just kept making jokes and didn't crack at all. Awesome.

It's interesting how Sony Ericsson's Xperia Renderings online are different than the ones in Barcelona. In the question section of the conference, "Steve Jobs" has answered many questions, including the one about user interface. Sony Ericsson wants this X1 to deliver a user interface unique to Sony Ericsson. I have a feeling (and I'm being hopeful) that the X1 will loose it's Windows UI and have a panel UI instead, as illustrated in SE's Renderings.

Here are the REAL calculations.

The area the esato watermark covers, says "N95 8GB".

Any questions?

your calc is correct!!.

mine was in error as I mistakenly punched 420 pixel for the width of X1.

What I say is still correct in a sense. If you see/watch a 4:3 aspect ratio photo/video then the viewing size is still bigger on the N95-8G.

Hi guys.

Are there any good examples of those type of sliders that actually succeeded in the market. I can't recall any.

The HTC Wizard, HTC Magician (both sold under various other names), HTC Tytn, HTC Tytn II... all WinMo phones with a similar form factor, and all very successful (out in the non-SE world).

Maybe this one could be it?

It's not a "WOW" though.. frankly speaking.

If you compare the size of this with any of those other phones I've mentioned, then you can see the WOW immediately. It's a very good size for a full Windows Mobile Professional device with keyboard. On top of that you've got a very high quality screen, and a promise of high performance on video etc - making it a class-leading device. If they get this out in the middle of next quarter, it will be *the* Windows phone to have, I reckon.

The HTC series? really? I barely see anyone using that phone..in HK, that is..I'm not sure how it is on the other side. I remember playing with it and it was awfully slow..and they tend to be very thick.

You're right though I took a look at the Hands-on video on Gizmodo and the size is impressive.

One thing though, I'm curious do most right handers here use their left hand to operate or pick up phones. I know some ppl use their right anyways but I think most use their left?
If so those arched slide scroll icons are a hassle for right handers unless you slide your thumb down in the center only.

Yes..I'm nosey..

Is it just me, or do all the phones being announced look really dated? I was sort of expecting to be like "wow, that looks sweet", but it's been more like "wow, that's so grotesque".

ok I solved the ram question (128mb) yet another stupid question

does the X1i have a built-in gps receiver?
i red i the various thechnical press release about a-GPS (assisted GPS) which helps fixing the GPS signal, wath does not automatically means that the X1 has a built-in gps receiver isn't it?!

thanks!

Posted by MYB87
ur question has been answered multiple times

The X1 has a built in GPS.

We have to wish now that SE will come out with the phone as soon as possible and not repeat the error of the P990, which was announced more than a year before it was on the market. And of course it came with a lot of bugs, which unfortunately made many users steer away from it, while now after the updates it is a great phone( but still with memory problems).
So if they'll take too long to put it on the market, we could maybe see in the meantime an iPhone 3 or a Nokia n97!!! SE hurry up please.
