Got this problem this morning. I sent a friend an sms. Then i read in an email that he want me to call him. But I couldn't.t find any way of calling him threw my sent sms, and no way to add his number into to contacts. Is this a missing function, or is it just me who are stupid?

Sorry if this has been asked already, but is the X1 coming to Three? I've been waiting since September and they still don't seem to have ever heard of it! A quick Google search revealed about three or four websites, all linking each other as sources (therefore still unverified), saying that it was coming in November. A couple of other forums also came up, with a bunch of people saying yes and a bunch saying no.

Hi Guys..
can anyone help me how to install application of zip file on X1 step by step ?
x1 is the first my winmo mobile..

Posted by Supa_Fly
@Max,

Thanks for clarifying that up! Much appreciated.

So how are you lot enjoying the X1? As in typing, I see LOTS enjoying stroking the screen - personally I'm still a button man at heart.

What of the recent joy of typing emails - lengthy emails? How is the speed in typing comparible to those that have used a blackberry solely over 6mths?

Any keyboard shortcuts?:
Menus, submenus, messaging shortcuts etc?

MIZZLE!

FRAK ME! I didn't know the X1 was as small as the K850i! BAM! its a PURE PHONE! SHITE! that you for comparison video on your blog!

Oh man .... I think I may have to save another $200 for the USA X1! This keypad better be decent more than adequate.

Also how is call quality & does SBP Shell totally get rid of the horrible WM menu layout & navigation?!

Lastly - is that Dpad noisy to click like I've seen on many YouTube videos?

Few photos:

Dont get it wrong. X1 backlight/screen can be whiter and brighter when set manually (consume more battery power). Mine is on auto which is comfortable enough for any usage.

Guys i am still confused. Does the phone come with a chip in the box or you have to purchase it seperately. Does the existence of the chip vary from service provider.

Got the X1 today, here are my thoughts:

1. The phone built is solid. Bought it just for the looks.
2. Windows Mobile Sucks. It is sooooooooooo slowwwwwww.
3. Panels suck the most. They are slow, crappy, they hang the phone and do all sorts of evil things. FXCK you SE for that.
4. The keyboard sucks bigtime. The top row of the keyboard is not useable. No good feedback.
5. NO D-pad on the keyboard, have to use the D-pad on the phone. I did not like it.
6. The whole WinMo experience sucked and seemed out of date.
7. The phone is slow as hell after sometime.
8. Battery life is good.
9. WinMo keeps bugging with alerts everytime I send a SMS, Miss a Call, Recieve a SMS and almost everything. This is Fx*ck*ng annoying.
10. The speaker sucks. Sounds very cheap in a $1000 phone. Cheapo SE
11. I hated the phone in just one hour. BAD BAD BAD phone for the price.
12. I am returning it.

I recommend everybody "NOT TO BUY THE PHONE". I HATE HATE HATE IT......

Aditya... seems like you hate Windows Mobile more than the phone itself. Next time do your homework before spending any kind of money. It might save you some trouble.

Call quality is good, and yep, SPB eliminates MANY of WM's menus and what not. The d-pad does indeed click, yes. Personally, I don't find it annoying, but different people, different tastes.

Does this mobile has stereo speakers. If no then whats the hole near to camera key and the same in the opp side.
How is sound quality in loud speaker as well as in headset?

Posted by celinelust
I agree with addicool (or however you spell it) in everything except 4,11,12. But when you compare it with the other phones out there it is really the best. It has everything any other phone has and even more stuff and better looks, size, build material, brand.
I am waiting for the importing of Android on it and hopping that it will make it look better or even faster. The phone is nice and all but Win Mo is ruining it and I am surprised how microsoft didn't change anything in their system since like what, 8 10 years ago ??!!. I would expect a much better performance with a 530mhz dual processor and 256mb of ram and 128 mb of vram.

the X1 is my first WinMo device and I admit that the OS does take a fair bit of patience to get to grips with - but I knew what I was letting myself in for and the phone has exceeded my expectations.

to pinquino,
when someone writes her/his negative opinion about something that doesn't make it biased!
Although I am keeping the phone and I am liking it, I was shocked when I used the phone for the first time and expected to face the good things I heard from this thread about it.
it IS slow
the panels are NOT as good as they are making them sound
win mo DOES look outdated
its loud speaker is VERY quiet, I have to be in a quiet room to be able to hear the one talking when I put the phone on speaker. by quiet I mean don't even turn the AC on. and I am not a 50 years old geezer .
but all in all this is a great phone compared to the other "business" phones out there, especially the blackberry.

Everyone is entitled and should have an opinion.

I agree with the panels comment, hence why I don't use them anymore, functionality is more important to me than concept. I'm sure they will improve with time though .

Since you are keeping your phone you can speed it up by a "little" bit of customisation or by using less-dated interfaces like:

- SPB Shell - available from SE fun download site
OR
- TouchFlo 3D - also faster than the default panels (it's the only one I use now)
- XperiaTweaks = improve memory cache, etc.
- Plenty of free downloadable programs to use with WinMob

yeah I agree, but these things are not by default. And still it is not as good as the android or the iPhone interface, in terms of speed and functionality. you cannot drag and drop shortcuts (just like the android) and the web browser while good doesn't have the smooth sliding of the one on the iPhone, of course the phone does win over the iPhone in so many other things but I am just saying whats bad about it.
By the way, the touch flo 3d interface was unbearably slow when I installed it and so many things didn't work in it, I had to uninstall it to return the phone as fast as I want it to be.
currently I am using the spb shell and removed almost all the panels from the phone.

I posted a mini-review on TouchFlo, if you search my previous post you'll see.

Yes it does take a while to install, and yes there are a few issues. Speed was not one of them. I won't re-explain how & why it will speed after use again. Rather if you're interested read my mini-review.

As for the isues, a new version is available (13/11/08).

I've started a new thread and will update my review of it there.

i got the spanking kid today.
my 2 cents:

pros:
very good mobile phone
business centric
panels are cool and handy, but once you get used to one, you don't keep on changing
very good build quality
surprisingly stable software
an all rounder mode, with multimedia prowess and on the go business solution

cons:
keypad not that friendly (top keyboard buttons - space button)
joypad not that user friendly
on speaker found on the bottm left side (low volume)

final verdict:
very cool and handy
get one once the price plunges

1) Maybe my xperia is different from some others... because to me this phone is not slow at all...

2) the longest time I've to wait to load a panel is 4 second this is the complex panel. Most of the time I use google panel, spb panel, today panel and sony ericsson panel. Google and today panel take 2 second to load completely. SPB and sony ericsson panel (with 2 sebsite feeds, task, calendar, clock and whether) take 4 seconds to load completely.... I think it is fast.

3) to switch from portrait to landscape for each panel takes 2 seconds the most and for less complex panel it takes only 1 second.

4) I don't have problem with the loud speaker. and for information, I don't use maximum volume setting.

5) I 've installed TF3D panel and its really nice and fast. scrolling from one section to another is instantly. the only waiting time is for the panel to load. It takes some time to load.

got my third X1 from CPW today. The first one crashed several time so i got it exchanged. The second one got a loose battery cover. Hopefully this one going to be my last x1. By the way, Citylink didn't take the x1 with them today so have to ring CPW tomorrow!

Posted by Indrawan
yes, my xperia x1 is also fast and everything work great but i have a problem i dont know how to install zipped application on x1..
after i unpacked or unziped the application i didnt see the cab...
pls help me guys...

Posted by masseur
@alexho, I got one from the first batch from cpw and its still running percectly, no loose covers, no crashes. in my experience WM crshes are usually attributable to software that has been installed

@Indrawan, it sounds like you have fallen into the usual trap that a cab is in fact a zip and is often recognised on pc as a zip.

if you simply copy the file to your X1 and then find in it file explorer on the X1 and click it, it will install fine.

Posted by Indrawan
@masseur
i did but i still didnt see the cab or exe...

Posted by masseur
sometimes (I'm not sure of the exact circumstances) if you know its definitely a cab then you need to rename it from zip to cab before copying

iam sure, when i unzipped the application i just see many files and XML file but there is no CAB or EXE

i download the zipped application from XDA developers but no one can be used right now.help me pls ?

hi indrawan,

just like others have said, i think the same too, it's the CAB file that u unzipped, hence u don't actually need to unzip the file

Negative viewpoints and comments about the X1 are welcomed. We want to learn from each other. However, watch how you write your comments. Write in an inflammatory way, then you're basically asking for it, and there are many here would be more than happy to oblige you.

Bloob.

this is not a perfect world, hence no one would comply to your logical request. i have had the device 3 days now, and it is surprisingly and atonishingly fast, bug free, responsive and solid. we have thousands of shadow bloggers in here getting paid by stupid manufacturers just to come in and mess out our (post purchase analysis). i wish these guys have a real life.

anyways. the X1 made me restore my belief in SE again. i remember for the past 2 years, everytime i tried a new phone, i had this inner feeling of skeptisism that the phone will soon malfunction - software hang - etc..
now i am not having this feeling at all. you may say HTC. well, you should see the bigger picture you short sighted people. it is not only OEM practice (for those of you shadow life-less bloggers, OEM means original equipment manufacturer), it may be something being cooked under the table that neither you, nor me will know it until it happens.

i wish the moderators do something about it. we can name 4 to 5 people in each section, vomiting all over the place. and we need someone to wipe them out !!!

The madness of Expansys UK, the X1 is now £665 SIM free! http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=163411

Do people really pay this kind of money when the X1 is £499 elsewhere?

My mom was like 'OMG! XPERIA X1!'

So she bought one yesterday and still inlove with it...

Any chances on how you can put the Sim Contacts to PHONE?

contrary to popular belief there is a camera next to the earphone speaker. i believe a light meter is on the other side to help with brightness and contrast of that image captured. they werent going to release a 3g smartphone without the ability to do two way video calling were they!

i have been playing with mine for a couple days now and the jury is still out. not quite sure if this is one step forward and two back or vice versa. perhaps someone on here can help? i need advice on certain aspects.

1. is it still possible to type a text message with one hand easily, as it has been with all the P-series?
2. why do i not seem able to copy files to the handset using my pc? (it seems to be read-only in windows explorer)
3. has anyone been able to make it work as a modem for their laptops yet, either by bluetooth or usb?

Posted by MyP910
@indrawan,

as said by other, it is very likely that the zip file that you have is the .cab file. In that file you will see a lot of xml files. You don't have to unzip. Just copy the .cab file to X1 and execute directly.

@simon69

1. if you want to use one hand operation, you have to install a different keyboard/keypad. I suggest you to use this touch-IT blackstone keyboard from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442154

2. to copy file to your handset is straight forward. once you connect you x1 to the pc using USB, your pc will have a removable disk just like when you connect a usb drive. Then, you can copy and paste.

@prototype_boy

You really can't be serious can you? do you have any proof at all of your massive conspiracy theory to support this absurd theory of yours as this is what you claim.

" we have thousands of shadow bloggers in here getting paid by stupid manufacturers just to come in and mess out our (post purchase analysis). i wish these guys have a real life. "

Seek help as your not paranoid but everyone is out to get you and the X1. Seriously it's a smart phone it isn't going to be best for everyone none ever are. There will always be those that think it's great and those that don't like it. So what that doesn't mean there is a conspiracy and people being paid to blog against it by other manufacturers as that's just absurd follow your own advice and get a life.

@Jah

I noticed that last night and was pretty stunned and have no idea how or why they think that's a good idea but i suppose if people still buy them at that there laughing all the way to the bank.

On E -Bay the price seems to of leveled out now at between £380-£420 plus postage so a reasonable saving can be made. It doesn't seem to make much difference to the price if the X1 is from VodaFone, O2 or Sim Free so as i said if you look carefully bargains can be found even on a sim free one.

Am i the only one on here that thinks that most people buying X1 for the panels, are not thinking about it the right way?

I'm reading how "SPB is better, faster", and "TouchFlo3D is the way to go", and stuff like that.
The panels interface, unlike all the others, is there to give you the choice of All of them!

I have , thanks to the people over at XDA, who are improving the original concept from SE, Both SPB, TouchFlo3D also, as everyone else has, Win Mo Today screen al running reasonably happily together.

What i'm trying to say is, I HAVE THE CHOICE AT MY FINGERTIP, at any time.

To expand, if i really wanted, there is no reason i couldnt install Winterface as well, and any thing else that comes out.

No other phone, that i know of, at present, can give you this choice.

The defence rests its case.

Thank you.

It's the OS...

WM gives you all this customizability + expandability + endless world of software for everything..

If anyone here is aware of ANY other OS which can even only 'come close' to WM in all these aspects, feel free to share it with us...

Btw, I am extremely bored by these noobs dropping in and talking bullsh*t about this phone or the WM UI in general.

Can't speak for the phone as I don't own it, but the comments about WM are just redundant.

Of course everyone is entitled to share his/her opinion as this is what forums are for, but such childish, rude, pathetic and exaggerating words as can be found in some of the previous pages is imo just the proof of a lack of intelligence & common sense.

If you don't like the phone and/or OS or if you lack the interest, patience and/or the intelligence required for WM, just stay away and go for whatever suits you best. As simple as that.

Posted by MWEB
The only downside of ALL WM devices is that they lag a little, otherwise all the points detailed below are quite true.

Posted by Astral1
Well, As i've personally been researching this phone since the February announcement, i was pretty much fully aware of what i was letting myself in for.

I love it. But, i am a geek.

No-one, who is a regular visitor to this type of forum since February, at least, who has bought this phone, has any real reason to feel dissapointed, or misled, in relation to Windows Mobile.

I certainly realise that if i dont like a feature built into this phone, it will only be a short matter of time, before it is customized to a point that i can accept it.

I have been brought up on windows since windows 3 (PC), and i realise the potential.

bring it on, i say! My X1 stays with me!
